Valk buff

I've seen lots of talk about upgrading the valk. I was wondering what upgrades people think it should have?

I see in the wiki that the serco SkyProm is considerably better then the other Prom versions, whereas the IDF valk is only marginally better than the other versions.

I would vote for making the new IDF stats something like the following:

lvl requirements: 10/11/6/1/- and 990+ itani standing
armour: 12500
cargo: 0-3 cu ??? (I want 3, but I think it should be 0. An all out fighter should not have a cargo hold)
weapon ports: 3S
weight: 2750kg
trust: 240 N
spin torque: 9.0 Nm
combat speed: 70 m/s
turbo speed: 230 m/s
turbo energy: 55/s

This increases the armour by 1500 and adds to the thrust and speed, making it an ideal fighter :)

update: the price of the (new) IDF and SkyProm should be much higher (around 100k)???

the valk rune has a stupid requirement of mining 5 while it _no_longer_ carries 8cus. it's as stupid as tupid can get.

so, it would take out it's mining requirement and use that for the specs outlines above.

and if i was marginally good at 3D graphics, i'd draw you you what i'd call a valkyrie einheri.

And what IS 'einheri' besides a screen name? Google did not turn up much beyond that.

For the valks sake, I think we should have more valuable ores (sell for 10,000 a piece) in more dangerous areas, like constantly protected by queens and minions. This would put the faster smaller ships, to better uses in such situations.

Behold, the SUPER-VALK!

(The stats, by the way, is nuts.)

toshiro: from wikipedia:

In Norse religion the einherjar or einheriar were spirits of warriors who had died bravely in battle. The name is Old Norse for "one-army-ers" (singular would be einheri). It is often interpreted as "outstanding fighter", but might also signify "those who are all [now] in one army", because when alive on earth they were in many armies and bands, but now they are all in the Army of the Dead.

I think 3cu is the ideal: in VO combat operations, cargo space is valuable for picking up small items like the NSI or an Itani child widget, or even rare weapons or other add ons. A top level fighter like the IDF should be able to pick up such things, and 3 cu allows it to grab a rare battery dropped by an opponent.

Unlike WWL, I think the stats are good, but we may need to see the effect of the increased thrust on a tri-flare rig. Back in the day, such creatures were very nasty... but again, I'd rather see it become something in need of a nerf and prune back from there, so what the hell, that looks good.

One other thing: as long as the standing thing is working properly, I'd like to see the top line ships (SCP and IDF) for the military nations become available to POS holders *only*... seems logical and gives a reason for gaining such status.

Now... the Rune... siggggggghhhh. I'll make a new post on that later, but goddamn it's useless.

Dr. Lecter : have you ever thought about how putting a 9Nm torque on a 2750kg ship will do? Clearly you haven't.

It's ok! Go ahead, deploy this valk! I missed those "nerf the prom" threads that we used to post when the 650N/15Nm super-proms first came out.

Yeeaah. That kind of spin torque would be scary on a valk, even when loaded down with flares ><

/me shrugs

Too good, too crappy... whichever

Again, since no one feels like nerfing the prom in a significant way, buff the Valk to be equally cheesy.

Might I add that people keep saying the best way to take down a Prom is with multiple people, ie ganking. So Prom flyers should beware this.
Dec 10, 2006 Dr. Lecter link
The best way to take down any ship is by ganking.

The easiest way to drop either a prom or a valk, especially of the SCP or IDF flavors, should be either (1) multiple people or (2) another of those ships.

The prom isn't broken as it stands now; the valk is.

Quoted for preservation, Dr Lecter, "The prom isn't broken as it stands now; the valk is."
Dec 10, 2006 Dr. Lecter link
The prom, if you will recall, already got beaten with the nerf stick. What the hell do ya'll want: a narrower profile taur with a little more armor and an S-port instead of an L-port?

Quote me all you want, fuckers, the prom fits into its role in the game as it is now.

The Valk, however, is not the current superior light fighter. It's a potato; it's flare bait; it's AGT bait; rails eat it alive. Most people who fly lights go to the Rev C or IBG for all their combat needs; vults are more utilized by those who can choose between the two. Given the valk's alleged role in the game, I'd call that broken.

I'm with Lecter, I never fly the Valk, its far to easy to hit, and its not nearly as good as the IGB, which you can get a far lower levels. Its flare bait, far to easy to hit and get hit in, no fun at all. I like the current states posted here-in, exept the spin torque, that'd make it a bit hard to control, not considering the danger a computer controlled Valk would pose with that kind of spin torque.

More then anything else valkyre needs a slimmer profile.
For other changes I would suggest:
armor cut to 7000 hull, 4000 shield points added, weight reduced to 2800 kg, top speed upped to 230 and a small thrust/spin torque adjustment.
Dec 11, 2006 Dr. Lecter link
I've often wondered how it would appear with more flattened, angular sides... isosceles trianguar or so in cross section...
Dec 11, 2006 Ghost link
Aye Bo, I've been saying it for a while too. The valk would be fine if it just had a slimmer profile. No stats adjustments needed, just make it a bit thinner.
Dec 11, 2006 Jim Kirk link
Changing the Valk's shape is something that won't happen for a while, judging how often devs add new 3d objects.
