After further testing, my results continue to be consistent with the first ones that I posted. Not much of a difference. I think the next step would be shrinking the body and seeing how that affects it.

Incarnate: It might help if they didn't actually warp in right away; if you forced the player to go back and repair first, for example, it might not be an issue.

I helped Erik get his X-1 by sitting in sector and attracting the ire of the bots with an IBG while he went to repair and reload. I'm pretty sure at least half of the times he tried the mission failed because the bots got lazy on him and wandered off. I can vouch for his frustration as he was visiting my house for the week. >_>

Well... we've had X-1's for a while now in their original form and feedback has been none-existent for a while so I figured I would help move this up ;)

I agree with the general opinion that the ship should be squashed a little more, but I think we should consider easy and quick changes first. How about a slight boost to max combat speed, 70-75m/s seems reasonable and would not be higher than the max combat speeds of the other fighter favorites (corvus vult, IBG...). Also, could we have an X-1 with IDF valk stats?

You mean the tiny ass mass/armor swap?

Oh lord, I'll summarize my thoughts on the Valk:
1. Bring back the infiniboost 8 cu 220 m/s 3000 kg 230 thrust Valk Rune.
2. Make all the Valks the shape of the X-1 with the smaller collision mesh.
3. Make the X-1 EVEN MORE squished. With less mass and armor, but I dunno how MUCH less.

But, meh. Game "ship balance" is overrated.

why make all the ships the same?

Not same balanced.

valks are getting a buff, see x-1 newb
May 19, 2007 upper case link
the x-1 is not enough. there's already been long discussions about it and it turns out nothing was done for the moment.

so i second this *bump*

the valk needs a buff. and the rune needs to become useful again.

The ITAN, to me, come to mind
as those wanting the valk redesigned
'those proms are too rough,
our poor valks need a buff!'
Gad, I'm so tired of hearing them whine...d.

i think its rediculous that a prom has more armor than anything else, is quick as hell for a heavy bomber, and can hold at least 40 cus of whatever it is serco carry, and people still refuse to use anything other than flares and agts in it.

i dont think the valk needs a buff, its already a great fighter. i just think the prom needs a nerf.

Prom's are supposed to be the be-all end-all assault ship. I think everyone knows that they're overpowered, but must of us (myself included) think that they should be. Ask the Serco in the nation war, Proms in anything greater than a 1 on 1 still require some strategy/tactics to use. Proms flying alone in a group battle are easy prey for 2 or 3 pilots flying together and hitting called targets. They don't have the turbo thrust to escape a gank, that's their only weakness and it REALLY hurts them in group battles. Even if Proms fly together, it's still difficult to keep everyone close enough together to cover your wingmen. And when they are close together, flares eat them up. It's a rock paper scissors thing. Remember, they don't have the most firepower. If a prom pilot doesnt know how to do anything but have a slug fest, a rocket rag will make quick work of him. So, yes they dominate 1 on 1s. But I think we should wait on further balance until we have more people. Hopefully, if this game ever fully releases, 1 on 1s will become pretty rare unless mutually agreed upon.

As for the valk, while there really isn't a very noticable difference between the X1 and the others, I still think we should wait on this too until we get more people. There could be a lot of changes that happen between now and the 2.0 release that could screw with any balance we currently have. I would hope balance would be revisted immediately after 2.0.

The one thing I would like to see done is get rid of the X1 and swap the X1 body with the bodies of all of the current valks. We've pretty firmly established that it isn't overpowered.

Edit: Oh, and give the warthog TD and Biocom Vult a purpose. Or just remove the biocom vult altogether.

Am I the only who prefers the IDF (or Vengeance) over the X-1? The slimmer profile seems to make it spin more laterally, like an IBG. What I like about the Valkerie is that although it's not the greatest fighter in some areas (such as manuvering speed) it's still the best overall fighter. It's all quick, powerful, and armoured.

In the same way, the Prom obviously isn't as good as the Ragnorak for lack of ports, but overall is the greatest heavy ship. I think once people quit worrying about their honor and aren't afraid to use missiles, they'll find the Prom isn't such a challenge after all. I don't really have a problem taking them out in just a Spam rag, because the SCP has the absolute worst profile for dodging projectiles, and can't turbo very effectively anyways.

Edit: But the moment those Promjocks get some Vultures on their wing, my Spamrag adventures are over.

A Prometheus, and especially one using AGT + flares is definitely a formidable ship. It's a pain to deal with, like trying to take out rusty nails from an old board, and I'd expect no less from the pride of the Serco fleet. However, a pilot in one will quickly reach his limit. Someone in a Valk however should be capable of flying circles around any ol' Promjock. There's no reason why you should ever be hit with AGT fire in light fighter. If anything, the light fighters are the ships that are overpowered, as any loss in one of those is only due to the pilot's own limitations.

If you were to fight yourself Valk vs. Prom, who would win?

most definitely the prom. for a while, mogul flew proms and i would totally own pilots i couldn't otherwise do using any other ships, including pre-nerf valks. so much that i voluntarily stopped using the prom because it was too easy.

that's when i started using the (pre-nerf) aggresso a lot. it felt like a more descent compromise (post-nerf, the aggresso now sucks but hey...).

I think Mynt is right. Once you get past the whole "honor in combat" deal, the Prom is not overpowered, unless you're unfortunate enough to be alone against it. Once more players come, the current status quo of one on one fights will disappear. As it should. War implies teams and teams use tactics to maximize victory chances. So it cracks me up when either side of the Deneb War gets all cranky and whiny when one side "ganks".

Anyway, that's my rant. Just get used to thinking outside the box most in VO have built for themselves.

It depends if you step into the fight to have a decent 1v1 or a war.
May 20, 2007 Lord~spidey link
the prom needs a nerf the valk is fine
its that simple just make it heavier or decrease the armor a bit

and get rid of its large cargo space too!

The SCP is like 18 CU's.
