Make mining beams dangerous for miners

+ Damage miner's ship every 60 seconds for the amount [heat generated]+[extract ratio]. So, if mining beam heat generated is 1.1 and extract ratio is 1.5, then every mining beam will damage miner for 2.6 percents of the ship's hull every 60 seconds (for every single mining beam!). This will make mining more dangerous and interesting for pathetic miners and guarantees that they won't sleep while mining.

As long as we make every combat weapon have a 10% chance of exploding and killing the player I'm fine with that

what you suggest: single weapon will boom any player in first burst of fire

and what I suggest: single beam will kill miner only after 38 minutes and 46 seconds :} No pain, no gain!

Stupid idea!

...unless this or some other inconsistency or defect is applied to "hive" mining beams that generate no heat, if they ever get put in the game.

I'd rather have a small percentage of roids actually be large mineral-based amoeba-like lifeforms that like to eat ships by engulfing them. They would be immune to energy weapons (if anything, hitting them with energy would increase their mobility as they absorb the weapon's energy), and explosives would only be moderately effective. Higher end mining beams and weapons that have large concussive force would be the only real ways to fight them.

Mining beams are already dangerous for miners: they cause them to go get too heavy to run, out in the middle of fucking nowhere, and prevent them from carrying weapons.

Then I eat their livers.

It has been know to happen.

Mining is dangerous enough as it is, sometimes you even mine a rotating roid and get paint scraped off in no small amounts (shudder). And once per three years, or every time in my case, a pirate flies by and is in dire need of vitamins and so you supply him with some cash to buy some.

If at ALL possible, please make mining more safe. Think of the roid, won't anyone think of the roids?

I prefer to make the roids explode when reach a certain temperature. small ones destroy the miner ship, huge ones obliterate the whole system (including wiping out stations)...

I've met several giant roids that spin fast enough to kill your ship. It doesn't kill you on impact, it catches you in a crevice in the 'roid and rotates faster than your ship can go. You can't turn around to turbo. You stick until you die.

Mine fast, live or let die.

There are three dangers for miners atm:
1. Pirates.
2. Aggressive mobs.
3. Crooked hands, spinning roids, all the accidents.

Mining and extracting ore from asteroids should be more dangerous, and ore much more expensive.
