So! When someone joins the military and they're not on the job, I think that you should get 25% off faction specific ships' repair price of that nation only.
For example, X-1 costs 40k to repair normally. Take it to an itani station and get a military discount off your ship. 30k is new rep price.
Same works for serco. Need some nationalism in faction space!
Probably a low priority, but I'd like to see it anyway :)

Repair prices vary based on how damaged your ship is, so there's really no "normal" repair cost. You do already have the benefit of repairing ships for FREE while on border skirmish missions.
Maybe give military personell a discount on nation capital ships? As it is right now, they're highway robbery at 2x the normal cost at a station.

Well I wasn't quoting a normal so to speak, just saying, if in that instance it cost X to repair, then yeah it's be cut down.
Seems reasonable.
+1, but...
Make people DO something to stay in the military if you're going to go around handing out rewards. Joining the military is just two clicks of the mouse, so it would be stupid to give rewards for doing nothing. Many people join the military just to get the option of border skirmishes.
Require at least one or two border skirmishes or CtC kills per week to stay in the military.

Seriously. Being in the military ought to require some type of continued service.
totally agree. +1
Aye, then req to participate in Hive Skirmishes and/or Border Conflicts at least twice a week?
Seems reasonable. Maybe give three warnings and then a dishonorable discharge "badge" for failure to complete duties?
+1 to requirements for continued military service.
Destroying a number of enemy ctc voys should also count for that, as it impacts weapons production. Perhaps also the clearing out of the war convoy (maybe there should be a mission for that as well).

I like the idea, but how to deal with 2 topics:
A) What if player remains outside his nation space? After N weeks he is considered a deserter and kicked from military? Then can he re-join it?
B) And players that did not logged on for N weeks? The game engine will ignore it and request him to immediatly take 2 missions on next login, or simply kick another deserter? This case allows re-joining military?

I don't think it should worry about your location. That seems excessive to me.
I also don't think it should do a dishonorable discharge - just eject them and allow them to rejoin later if they want. Only make it dishonorable if they do something like attack their nation's CTC shipment, or kill 200 of their nation's souls, or something like that. That way it wouldn't screw over people who go on a long hiatus from the game, possibly for reasons beyond their control. In general it is a bad idea to punish people for not playing.

What about compulsory random missions (kinda like national guard weekend duty)?
+1 to earning the benefits
Dishonorable discharge should result in not being able to reach pos
treason = neutral as upper limit

I think if you do not log on for more than 2 days a week this requirement should go away (checked week by week). Alloh, war convoys and CtC are both located in grey, and they count, so location is not an issue.
This also brings up those looong military threads about rank, rewards, squadrons, etc...
I think it's time we add "Fix the Military" to "Faction Redux" and all those big things on the "Soon (tm)" list.

"treason = neutral as upper limit" Lay off the percocet PaK... treason = KoS. This is exactly why Corvus "fixes" standing... well, this and people are lazy.

Ryan, note upper limit. Not their standing directly after.
So... you're saying that a crime that is pretty universally an execution earning offense... would be given a second chance? There is no reason that any type of treason would result in anything other than Kill on Sight... (apart from care bear idiocy and a broken faction system and or the desire to exploit it).
Lay off of PaK's percocets.

+1, that is an excellent idea. Like a 1/20 chance per hour or so of some military NPC pm-ing you and informing you of the need to take X mission at Y station, within three hours (in-game, so logging out doesn't hurt you). He would remind you every twenty minutes or so, in case you missed it in the chatter.

Ryan normally I would agree with you - treaon would be a permanent KOS offense but forever is a very long time in VO and sooner or later there would be all that incesssant whining to the Devs about it....
So yeah - you should be allowed to eventually recover form it - it should just take a while.

Meh... I do hate whining and being subjected to it. Never let it be said I am unreasonable.
Given a sufficiently lengthy time period (3 to 6 months absolute minimum) I suppose giving traitors a maximum standing in the lower regions of disliked would be acceptable.
Though I still think KoS is more realistic and honestly, the only people this would affect are care bears... but if it saves me the headaches...
