Ou! tis the official "Dumb player designed ships*" thread!

*I'm not actually saying your peoples designs are dumb.

Then what are you saying?

/me is still digging through his hard-drive

Nice CYOA :P

ctishman: Can i use your designs for some 3D models? They look quite cool.

Oh, i have a hog model not textured yet, ill show some picts later. I'm going to try to make models for every ship thats now in vendetta, just for the heck of it.

Arolte: Hmm... i think the seperated wings is nice, but the design seems to flimsy and slick for a craft named the Warthog, a heavy, bulky, deadly animal.

After seeing all your ship designs, all I can say is: Waylon pwns joo!

Ship designs eh? Well I have one or two of those myself, for those who haven't already seen them.

Scuba made a great model.

Forgot the exact number, but it had about 15k polies, oh and it was a fighter design.

Skyfox: Feel free! If you want me to enlarge one component or another and send you JPGs, I can do that. I'll work on a height map for the components.

I like the separate wing idea where they are connected with pylons to the body and the idea of the lower mounted gun and other weapons mounted to the rear.

As others have said, it is a bit boxy and needs a little retouching on the wings overall design. I like the idea of the hog mounting 4 wings, (like the X-wing from Star Wars) and mounting an extra gun.

Awesome job though, you must have been really bored, what'd the teach think?

Oh and about the Battlestar Galatica pilots, whats with the helmets??

Updated Genin.org file bin with the first few of Scuba's models and a few rendered models for those without the capability to run Wings 3D.

I think I will click that ¨blender¨ icon that`s floating on my desktop and make some ships too.... be afraid...
What kind of tools are the devs actually using to model the ships?
Nov 16, 2003 toshiro link
meh... i haven't modeled them, just made sketches... someone else has to do that for me (an't be bothered to model em, takes too much time in Unigraphics).
/me rummages around in his sketches
just a sec, ku, be right back with 'em!

They use 3dsmax and stuff. See www.waylon-art.com for more information.

/me is trying to make a ship in Blender but is annoyed by the fact that it doens't support xpm textures.
Nov 16, 2003 HumpyThePenguin link
aye, most of my models have an insanely high poly count..

and ctishman, I be sending another one to you, and its low poly(1k) cheer!
Nov 16, 2003 HumpyThePenguin link
and what did you use to render them, they look pretty

Steve wants!

I used Wings3D's built-in OpenGL renderer with a subdivide level of 2, then brought the models into Photoshop and adjusted light sources, added glowy colored windows and backgrounds, and in the case of the Trojan about four pixels of motion blur and a drop shadow. These models would totally kick ass with textures, IMHO. Any plans to add them?
Nov 16, 2003 HumpyThePenguin link
aye, plans done for the model I told you about, although they aren't the best, I plan to improve them with my next model with I'll start as soon as I'm done typing :P

and how did you put the background into it?

Photoshop :)
