So, this was actually a huge pain in the neck, unfortunately. But in the next release, the Hound's large port will now be a small port.

I thought it would be a simple dynamic change we could make on the fly, but it would have actually broken every existing hound flying around in the game and was very.. bad. So, it took some time to figure that all out and handle it.

Now everyone can commence yelling at me for 1) Taking six months to do this (for those in favor), or 2) Doing this at all (for those against). Yaay..

Anyway, there should be a release today. It was intended for last night, but testing got too involved and we were falling asleep.

You have a thumbs up from me, swarm hounds are lame.

Unfortunately announcing it like this created a stampede of known swarm hound jocks to stock on their beloved ship and load out by hundreds or even thousands (Icky probably).
Somehow this hound nerf accomplished nothing and we will keep seeing the same hound swarmers for the next few decades.

Personally I think the loss of MPB hounds will make a greater impact in CS then expected.

I am confused about this swarm hound topic. What is the difference between a swarm hound, swarm UDV, swarm SCP or maybe a triple hiveposi X-1? New players will die not only from a swarm but easily on a 1 port centurion piloted by an experienced player. Not to mention gankedup by a pirate or nationalist guilds on better ships. Since hounds are easier to get than these faction ships, that is the only way they can survive out there. They can at least face these scary faction ships when challenged and hopefully get away. Honestly, this is my opinion, the difference is that it is difficult to catch a swarm hound even with the fast x1 or UDV or SVG. Swarm and run. Experienced players can easily dodge them. I don't talk and rarely follow the forums, but I am compelled to at say this. I will keep quiet now. Peace.

Meh. Swarm hounds were never a big deal. Mostly the noobs using them couldn't hit shit. When they did they got lucky or their target got lazy.

Removing the large port from the hound is probably the dumbest nerf yet on a ship that was given special coloration to anyone that committed to long term subscription. I committed. I got the Cammo Hound. Then it was nerfed not once but twice.

Either rebuff the straffe or put back the large port.

Or, and I mean you, Devs... live with the fact that commitment apparently only goes 1 direction.

To be honest, this along with the failure to deal with recent cheaters who log in on each others' accounts, plus no new content in ages... makes a guy think about whether continuing his sub is worth the money.

1) All game content is open to feedback and change, and evolves with time. I think you've been around long enough to be very aware of that. The special skin / livery is what you got out of your commitment. That hasn't changed.

2) We haven't failed to deal with any cheaters, we deal with it quietly in the background, as we always do (and are still doing). We do not put issues on display for the community to rant and rave about, that has generally been VERY unhelpful.

3) It's unfortunate if you feel the game does not live up to your expectations. It's what we can currently deliver. You can either have faith that improvements and content are actually coming, or you can give up and go play something else. I understand either way.

You've just nerfed the Jackhound, Avhound, megaposi PCB hound (which was a good trident hunting ship), and gathound all because of a few overly loud players complained about being swarmed in the back. I'm gunna make a UIT alt and UDV swarm the holy shit out of everyone until you tank that too. [edited nasty self]. Good thing I bought 150 hounds pre-nerf.

Use the hog II for swarming, that is a cheap and L port hound still!
But ya...-1

-1 indeed.

I was never a Hound jock and barely flew it, mostly flew it to travel fast. Only at station battles I sometimes brought a swarm hound for fun. But that gets old fast. My favorite setup for WH piracy was always the Rail/Jack combo. Place yourself near the WH in Edras B11 and they'd jump in right in front you to rail and jack that back. Hehe.

I see no reason to update it. I was always happy about swarm Hound pilots. When outnumbered, some enemies would resort to that strategy and I was happy they atleast came back to the battlefield. I would grab rails and get some snipe training on them. Now with that change, instead of coming in a swarm Hound they will feel safe in they will not come back at all.

The Swarm Hound was no issue unless you are not good at combat. Exceptional kills with swarms happen to everyone. If you get continously destroyed by swarms, get better.

Sorry, that's my view.

TL;DR version of post above: Sieger wants the swarm hound back because it's the only thing his dear ol' boss Ecka flies. Loyalty is strong in this person!

RP aside, he and I are actually quite in agreement on this. The swarm hound was a nuisance at worst. I've even evaded one from an XC once.

And my apologies to Inc. I rarely get upset over game stuff. But the unnecessary nerfment of the hound coupled with the continued problem with the station keys (leaving dozens of people on the FAMY and Friends User Key without access) reached my cockpit sensors at the same time. So I unloaded both barrels.

It struck me that "a huge pain in the neck," (per Inc) which probably meant hours of work that could have been spent on something more meaningful (like the station key problem that I though Lazy put a ticket in about -but maybe he just did a post in the bug forum).

The change to the Hound makes it no longer a "Warthog Interceptor." I propose changing it's shape a little to reflect what it really is now: a super awesome fighter with two small ports.

Maybe change the name and call it "Super Awesome Greyhound."

Kidding aside, I'm all for changing the Hound back. Or, do like Deathspores suggested and restrict those with large port weaps on a small port from undocking if it can't be done since there was fair warning in the forums, the very folk the change targeted went ahead and stocked up on their swarm hounds anyway.

But don't do any of that if it detracts from adding meaningful content, even if it's small bits to keep us PC Vets interested. I think we're less than enthusiastic about VR updates (and isn't "simulated VR" a redundant term?) and would like to see some changes that make interactions with each other interesting.

It's a bit off-topic, but I believe the station-key issue was hotfixed on the server last night.

As with most things Dr. Lecter suggests: way to totally miss the mark.

Really, the biggest problem with the hound is still the same problem it's been since the +100N buff: It accelerates fast enough that shots don't hit them from anywhere but behind. Even with >2000kg of weapons attached.

That means you need to be able to stay within weapons range as it runs away.

That pretty much means you have to be in a greyhound in order to stand a chance of killing a greyhound.

A SVG or Valk works sometimes too if you're quick about it or the greyhound pilot is a dunce.

Hound still needs a nerf to torque.

^ This would work better, but still doesn't address the problem.

Sorry about your tiny pink aiming ability, brah. Or, you know, willingness to lie through your teeth.

Indeed, the whole point of this suggestion was to make a reversion of the Hound to its even more buffed thrust state possible - which it badly needs for chasing - without people whining about swarm hounds.

"It accelerates fast enough that shots don't hit them from anywhere but behind."

What? This comment doesn't make sense unless I assume you're talking about auto-aim, but every ship accelerates fast enough to screw up auto-aim. Just turn off the auto-aim and aim at where the ship will be instead of where the game thinks it will be. (Easier said than done, obviously, but this is a skill based game, so...)

Don't buy it huh? :)

I should do an event as a demonstration. I'll fly a Greyhound. Anyone who's not flying a Greyhound who kills me with an energy weapon before I can escape gets 50mil.
