(real game time) calendar/date

Aug 10, 2016 Tripod war of the worlds link
I think this would be a cool little thing to implement. On the PDA page we have stuff like inventory, com, character etc... we can have a date/time page where it shows the time and date in game. But when you /time it shows game time and actual real world date.

So on the calender today's date would be august 10, 4444

Easy. You take a cesium 133 atom near absolute zero and watch the radiation as it transitions between the two hyperfine levels of the ground state. After 9,192,631,770 periods, it has been one second. This definition is unlikely to change by more than a minuscule amount in the future due to how much inertia the current second has, both in science and technology (a LOT of units are based on the second, so changing it would be a major pain). And there's really no reason to change it anyway.

The day is also unlikely to change much, because humans evolved to function most optimally when using a 24-hour cycle, and being in space doesn't change this. People can function on other time periods, but usually not as well. So, barring widespread Serco tampering, it makes sense to continue dividing time into periods of 24 hours. Particularly for people like the UIT who are not on a planet. And it's the UIT who are most likely to be the arbiters of Galactic Standard Time.

The rest of the timekeeping units are less fixed -- you could redefine hours, minutes, weeks, fortnights, months, and years without causing much disruption. People would need to get different timekeeping equipment (or update its software), get accustomed to the new terminology, and translate when looking at historical records, but it wouldn't be a big deal. Not compared to if you tried altering the second.

But it doesn't really matter. I mean, it's not like the interface uses GTS. Maybe the VO universe is actually still using a descendant of the Gregorian calendar, or maybe the game is just translating the dates for us.
