If this is done, then you should also not allow so much grid on smaller ships. Same principle.
That one was solved already by making the power cells weigh many times what the smaller ship weighs...

No, it wasn't. You can literally still put one on a ship and fly it. If you just put the ship in the your trident before you undock with your trident, then get close to the spot you need the ship to be with your trident., you can undock with said trident cell equipped ship and use it as you wish.
The obvious example is when someone puts one on a rag and uses more mining beams than you can currently use having the normal power cells.
This is very much so still a thing.

If by "fly it" you mean barely creep along at a snail's pace, desperately trying to build up speed, then yes.
Any small ship with a THC equipped is a blaster magnet asking to be killed by even the weakest of bots.
That seems like a reasonable tradeoff...

I'd say the inability to equip capital turrets while having a fast charge cell is also a reasonable tradeoff...
There is a way to wedge your trident's docking bay against a roid such that bots can't hit you. You can literally sit there jet mining with a trident cell without being touched, keeping in mind that you get equip an additional mining beam that significantly improves your efficiency.
The argument against the fast charge on the trident is synonymous to the argument against trident cells are other ships. Any reason that you have to remove fast charges from the trident can easily be applied to the trident cells on other ships.
You can't just say "well the trident cell on other ships is fun though" because some might say that a fast charge on a trident is also much more fun than a trident cell.
I personally think things are good just the way they are. Why limit what gear can go on ships. More variety is better in almost all situation in my opinion.

Actually Darth no its not.
THC on a normal ship is a huge handicap where as a FC or UC on dent is an advantage in that it allows a huge ship to jump almost instantly around sectors like its a fighter.
If nothing else equipping a FC or UC on a dent should require a FULL charge for it to be able to jump that amount of mass, that would be a trade off that is acceptable and on par with a small ship engine trying to fly with a THC.

Putting a fast charge on a trident is like powering an electric car with a cell phone battery. Sure you might be able to get it to move for a split second, but the battery is going to burn up.
Can you put too big a battery on a device that requires a smaller battery? No.
I would say that putting a trident cell on a regular ship is not strictly a disadvantage. It allows the pilots to increase their mining efficiency greatly. You are choosing to overlook the benefits that come out of using a trident power cell on a regular ship. They aren't limited to mining. I just use this as an example that mostly everyone already knows about.
I'm not saying that I wholeheartedly disagree with taking the fast charge away from tridents. I just think that if that is done, it's also the same logic that would take away trident cells from regular ships.
Too little grid power makes sense. But then that presents the idea of is there such thing as too much grid power. I think if there's a concept of too little grid power, then too much grid power should be a thing too.
I must admit that I definitely lean towards leaving things as they are because it provides more variety. You can either choose to equip yourself with capital specific defense turrets or you can go virtually defenseless and just have the ability to jump faster. Also, if you want a heightened mining efficiency, then you can make your ship vulnerable to attack and reap those mining benefits.
I'm also of the opinion that being able to easily solo a trident that is actually being piloted (not an afk pilot) should not be a thing. Downing a trident should require coordination and teamwork. You got those two things and I don't think having a fast charge is relevant because you can easily hold down a trident with a couple PCBs. And again, a trident without a trident power cell is virtually defenseless.

Actually the fast charge means you can't hold down a trident with a couple of PCBs these days. You need about 4. And the second the dent jumps, it is usually gone in about 3 more jumps. Sometimes only one.
Also, i want to bring up something ARF once wrote in a similar thread.
"In theory, you could stop a sector-hopping Trident with a PCB, but the powercell starts charging before your weapons unlock after a jump. The FC battery reaches 25% for a jump in less time than it takes for your controls to unlock, aim, fire a PCB shot, and hit. "

Not related to thread: you can indeed put a big battery on something that uses small batteries; it just isnt recommended, and you have to wire it yourself :P
so, why not just make it so cells dont charge until same time as weapons unlock?

"jump like a fighter"...
Given that jumping seems to have no correlation with the mass of the ship, I see no reason a dent can't jump just as rapidly as any other ship. The lower grid an FC has seems to me to be a suitable penalty for the FC cell offering faster jumps, and a single pilot with PCB can pin either THPC or FC equipped dent (I have been pinned with both cells in the past), so... I see no reason to remove options without offering alternatives.
That said, I am not opposed to a capital ship version of a FC. I just don't want the THPC to be the ONLY option.

Faille I'll state this again, a single pcb will not pin a FC equipped trident. Even if when I have perfect streams on the dents they jump just fine. And recently two PCBs are having a hard time pining them. And once they jump, they are gone unless they jump to a roid sector.
The current trader tactic is jump back and forth between only two sectors, and usually by the first or second jump, it is free and clear.

I have been pinned in my FC fitted Dent, as well with THPC fitted, on both occasions by a single pilot. Sieger once pinned my FC fitted dent, Einan pinned me when I had the THPC. It can be done (unless the PCB got a nerf at some point, it was not long after they were released when Sieger got me).
EDIT: Single PILOT, not single PCB. Einan had furies to deal damage, Sieger had wing-mates IIRC.

Don't get an exploit confused with how the game is supposed to work.
Anyone jumping away while being shot with PCBs is exploiting a bug. But this same bug can be used with a trident power cell, so...

It's not a bug, it's a balance/gameplay oversight.
The problem does not exist for the Trident Power Cell because it takes longer to reach a jump charge than the weapons lockout.

I haven't used a FC in my trident since the capital weapons came out, but I don't feel I should help deprive others of that bad choice if they want to make it.
-1.
If a single PCB can't pin a dent right after jump (starting fully discharged), I think lag is involved.

No.
There is a bug that allows you to jump out even while being shot with a PCB. Won't say anymore on that, but it is my opinion that this suggestion came out of frustration of people exploiting this bug against the OP.

Thank you for confirming my theory Darth, because of course plugins can't be used to exploit the game, they made sure of it.
-1 for anything that will slow me down further. There are many trident issues to be fixed before this one.
