Bring RP back into MMORPG

The title says it all.
I don't think VO can move on without bringing some real RP back.

All that yarr, yohoho and endless daily bickering and boasting on ch 100 leads nowhere and creates a not so enjoyable environment for new players. It's extremely annoying and off-putting.

Here is the list of things that, in my opinion, need to change:

1. remove general chat ch 100, leave only sector chat, nation chat 11 and limit help ch 1 to every respective nation only. Instate news channel that can publish multinational events announcements (need to be submitted via event submission)

2. remove ability to create multinational guilds and remove those that already exist (give players option to change faction if they want to keep the guild)

3. No more multination pirates roaming everywhere freely - give them their own "outlaw" faction (3 nation KOS by default), anyone who kills his own nation pilots becomes an "outlaw" immediately and his char color changes. Disable all nation specific ships they have stashed and leave them ability to sell them to stations.
For friendly fire kills in furballs in greyspace give players option to "forgive" friendly kill.
If required, reinstate friendly fire restriction in nation spaces to prevent newbies to screw up by accident.

4. instate hidden "black market" stations in greyspace where anything goes (accessible through missions) that sell limited quantity of 'refurbished' nation specific ships variants or some 'outlaw' exclusive ones, whatever is easier to implement

5. Encourage players to enlist in nation military/trade/mining guilds - create default nation ones (led by guides or trusted individuals that are willing to do this) new players can join in the early game so they don't have to play alone and can enjoy in group activities from the very start.

If VO wants to evolve into a true MMORPG - things need to change and I mean change ASAP.

1-nope the problem is not 100. The problem is a few players that are bickering already in the forum.
Suppress IRC bots and you would solve 99% of that. Not all people that are chatting on 100 are bickering idiots.
Black Prophecy didnt have a 100 general channel and it died.
100 is the MAIN UNIQUE tool to build Roleplay. Roleplaying is FREEDOM.
Drama is easy to ignore; Don't fuel it and it will stop.

2-Nope, not everyone is a nationalist. this wouldn't reflect the nature of human relationships and would be completely artificial.

3- I am very proud of being a serco renegade. So nope. Also this is a nationalist point of view.

4-why not.

5-be present in the game and help new players:then they would join your guild. Guild are player organization, the game cannot force to join one.

I can roleplay pretty good and i dont need the devs to build mechanism for me to do so.
The question is more Why can't you?

[ONE/SKV/FAMY/EDIT/DIE/CLM/SWA/FIP/MOO/RED/WARR] talking about RP hahahahahahaha

-1

Remember, don't pay attention to the competition itself. Ignore other pilots. The one you need to beat is yourself. Play everyday and make a difference for you. When I first came back to this scene I was 1v1ing the best even in my dreams, technique is not something you can obtain in a few days after all.

If you aren't continuously looking up and putting in the effort, you can't reach the next level. Trying desperately to catch up to each other pushing the limits and that doesn't get you worked up at all?

You're wrong for running away from reality.

The best and only real original rp in the game right now is EDIT, DIE & antibody. Even with SWA the only thing we do is shoot whatever we want, which is not any real rp.

#3 +1 having the outlaw nation if tri KOS

#4 +1

#5 There needs to be more of a benefit to the player to be in the military of his home nation. Maybe something like only military members can get SCP/X-1 type of thing or maybe military versions that are slightly more buffed ( just throwing out ideas ), maybe include random martial law senarios in nation space that let the military enrolled player participate in. With Deneb being the only thing exclusive to military membership it really holds no value.

1. -1 As much as I would like this personally, I think it would do more harm than good by expanding the sense of lack of fellow players in the game. I have 2 new characters under development and have left 100 on both of them because I agree chat on 100 breaks the sense of immersion for me most of the time.

2. -1

3. +1 to an outlaw faction -1 to suggested implementation

4. +1 Create a fucking black market period. Players should not be able to run 'Sedina Chocolates' or porn across nation borders without being questioned.

5. +1 The game definitely needs a greater emphasis on nationalism. The game constantly devolving into pirates vs everyone else is a bit depressing. If that's all the game is going to amount to, just do away with the Itani and Serco nations in their current form.

-1 to number 1.

There was actually a period in closed beta where there was no universe chat, it didn't work out at all.

-1 to the rest too to be fair. Access to the pirate stations should require own nation KOS but this tri-nation thing Why? If my own nation hates me shouldn't that be enough?

[edit]

Also, the real CLM had nothing at all to do with the list of other guilds you posted and actually existed before TGFT so stfu.

6. Eliminate Explode and then charge a faction penalty for self destruction in monitored space.

Yoda has been here forever and I have to respect most of his observations. I have been here slightly less then him but we both remember different stages of VO all too well.
We both share the same affection for VO and want it to prosper and evolve so I have to ask yoda and everyone else who has been a part of VO for a longer period of time:

Are you satisfied with what VO devolved into?

I am not so I posted some suggestion that I thought would bring back the much needed sense of immersion and true RP.
Finding the right solutions is never simple but that's why we post this suggestions - to discuss and try to find the solutions that would make VO better.
So... instead of snide remarks and infantile chest thumping, how about you post a coherent opinion and answer to my question?

I love ch 100, it lets me gauge the average intelligence of the current VO community

But I do like the idea of outlaws being outlaws, and nationalism mattering

However many of us have always been for those things, but there's some people high above way up in the sky that keep phoning it in on implementation.

1. -1. Instead channel 100 isn't even on your active channels list when you first join the game. One of the tutorials already says that you can join the main chat by that command, etc etc etc. If you wanted some real RP, turn off 100 all together yourself, not remove it completely.

2. -1. Just, what? No. Not everyone is a nationalist. Some mission in-game go about do in other missions FOR other nations, so no.

3. +1 and -1. I like the no faction idea, but if you didn't want to be nationless, you shouldn't have to. Kinda torn with this one though, I see what you are going at with this

4. +1

5. +1 Sure.

-1. Forcing people into rigid roles is not the same as fixing roleplay.

No one will take this suggestion seriously, you are the commander of an Itani Nationalist guild who is allied with two Serco Nationalist guilds and is apart of a federation of guilds that targets [Itan]

Cry Baby and Krag of "CLM" solely play with these shitRPers because they themselves have chars in the above two guilds.

What is left of FAMY has made an exodus to other guilds or gone inactive thanks to YT-1300's choice of allies.

EDIT/DIE/SWA/MOO/WAR are just a network of griefer alts/unsuspecting noobs created designed to target [TGFT] & [Itan]

The fact is you were all outplayed by players much less skilled and much newer than you and now the little control you had in VO has slipped out of your hands so now you're begging the devs like usual to "fix" the game in your favors.

You brought this on yourselves haha

At the end of the day, anyone without a dog in the race knows who is putting in the time nowadays.

You've lost this war.

You want to get rid of the HELP channel as being multinational? Congratz, i cannot help new players who have questions, anymore |:/

Besides, there is more to VO than the nation-specific aggresions.

Roles themselves are broken, so it follows suit that RP is broken. Fix the causality.

Also, death to 100.

Imagine a game with 10,000 players logged in at once. How important is 100 or your RP for that matter. Those 5 or 6 lines of meaningless blather are going to pass by so fast it's pointless.

Many of the roles and mechanics in the game can be usurped with a fresh alt. This game has built in hypocrisy and it mocks itself.

There are many ways to fix this with a 4th "nation" unaligned faction but what you guys are suggesting is nothing but begging for a advantage to maintain your current positions in space due to the fact that a new generation of players has come and replaced you.

Sure, sure, the majority of them will be gone once they get tired of the same old shit over and over, gradually replaced by another fleet of newblets, and so on. The cycle is never-ending. The vets in this thread who are bringing up valid concerns about the nature of RP, on the other hand, have been here since the conception of VO, which is before you were even born. Have some respect for the wise, experienced elders, little silly kid.

The only reason you're gloating right now is that the current newblet fleet is working in your favor. I wonder if you'll still feel the same way when the next newblet fleet decides that it's time for VOID to go?

But I will go against my better judgement for a moment here.

Just admit you want VO dead ever since you guys gave up so we can move on to more pressing matters.

On the contrary, I spent a lot of time playing VO and really enjoyed it. The reason for posting this suggestion - I want VO to prosper, get more players and evolve into a true MMORPG. In it's current state it has devolved below acceptable standards of what VO looked like before.

Every single person supporting this suggestion ultimately are causing the very issues they say plague the game.

I don't think anyone who posted his reply or opinion supported this suggestion. As expected, everyone has mixed feelings about it and strongly disagree with a lot I proposed here. Even I am uncertain about some aspects but I posted them to get a reaction from the community.
The main reason for posting this was to initiate a positive discussion and to find the middle ground acceptable for most.
Nothing is written in stone, this is just a suggestion and it looks like many of you are forgetting what a suggestion actually means.

There are many ways to fix this with a 4th "nation" unaligned faction but what you guys are suggesting is nothing but begging for a advantage to maintain your current positions in space due to the fact that a new generation of players has come and replaced you.

In my suggestion "outlaws" get their own faction, they lose nation specific ships and equipment (lets say government confiscates it) but they gain access to black market where they can buy "refurbished" nation specific ships. It's a minor inconvenience but nothing that should cramp the play style you choose to pursue.
