Make the Goliath a straight buy.

Exactly as the name suggests. Make it a 20mil ship with a license requirement 10/10/10/10/10

Trident pilots will obviously 1- this because they had to do the insane Trident build, people so committed to the game that they actually engaged with this insane content.

I would only ask that people give this some thought and not dismiss this straight away because they sacrificed the time to do the build. I think this is a way to get people to pay for a sub, to build a Trident, to actually leave nation space. I think people will subscribe just to fly it. It's a pointlessly long build time considering that you are going to add more capital ships to VO.

I don't think a pay-to-win ship is really the solution, when combined with the insane build it just looks like Guild Software wants them to empty their pockets more then once. It looks like a shameless cash grab, because the choice is between paying $7.99 or going through the build. The build will go from looking pointlessly long to looking like a bar set a little too high just to make people pay. Never mind that pay-to-win content cheapens the game.

EDIT: I forgot to add that the a bought Goliath wouldn't benefit from insurance.

I def +1 this suggestion!! Honestly I find the entire creation of Cap ships soooo off putting do to the incredible amount of manufacturing needed. At least the Goli as a straight buy would feel like a reward to trading and grinding licenses and creds!

I like that capship manufacture is as big a deal as it is. Slapping a simple price tag on them cheapens both the ships and those who have worked to build one or more.

If the price is right I don't see why not provide more competitors in the capital ship insurance market.

We have the Trident for that, the Capella is going to be hell.
I think we need an entry to that that isn't insane. I respect your opinion Faille but if someone wants to build one without assistance its going to take months, the build time cheapens the gameplay.

If this ever were to be a consideration (which I highly doubt it ever would), it would make the most sense to make it cost RL money.

7.99 USD, no insurance

BUT if this ever became a thing, it would be appropriate for it to have ZERO turrets.

Credits don't matter because they are too plentiful. Killing somebody's 20 million ship would be a nice measure of satisfaction and there should be an in-game mechanic to buy larger ships and actually have a use for credits.

aaronund, to me, the grind to build it is what gives it its value. Lets face it, the Goli or Dent are not powerful "I win" ships.

They open up different game-play options, and are more of a symbol of dedication and commitment to the game than "power items". The effort required to build them is what makes them special (IMO). Take that effort requirement away, and you lessen the value of the ship (again, IMO).

As for a RL price-tag, I doubt that would ever see the light of day, but -100 to that idea regardless. RL money should NEVER buy game changing items. It should be limited to skins and other similar "bling" items.

What about buying the components directly from another pilot?

I disagree Faille but I respect you like no other player. I think the dent and later the Capella should be the ship you grind for and the Goliath serving as an entry into that. We can both agree that RL money buying ships is a terrible idea.

Phaserlight Sumed it all up right there

If this were to be considered sensibly, the cost should reflect the build time of the project. Maybe 400-500 million.

But then, the only people with easy access to one are traders...

Why not leave as is, where the acquisition of a goliath requires all types of gameplay, and encourages both player trade, and player cooperation.

As an afterthought id like to menton that the mere existence of the goli has shortened build times for all, it has both increased the number of capital ships in space, and created a situation there it now takes about a third of the time of a trident, but then doubles the speed of building the dent... A sensible player can now already achieve both cappies is less time than the original situation for just a trident. That 600cu goes a lot further than the ol' defenseless xc.

I think the satisfaction you get after you finish your goliath building will be much greater than just buy it.I support capship only can be builtable, because you can learn a lot of things during your building.Thats a kind of memory one can treasure it forever.

With the caveat that you get no insurance mission once you lost it. So, basically building it would still have its advantages.

Darth Nihilus, that was supposed to be in OP I've added it now thanks for the +1.

@Nysceral The problem with the build times on the Trident/Goliath isn't that it gently nudges people into cooperation. Its that for a player who doesn't have a friend with a dent already the build is done with a series of XC hauls that kill the fun of VO in a matter of days. Why and when someone decided that a second job be necessary for access to any capital ship in VO is beyond me.

@Phaserlight 800m is the going price for a Goliath kit, there is not enough people making these kits themselves and not using them. It doesn't scale with anything else in the game, it still requires you "Know a guy" and still requires months of trading/mining that at certain point makes the whole "You can already buy it" Sentiment pointless.

I have a better idea.

^ By this he meant paying $40 for something that rewards other players for blowing you up. ^
