Hey devs, can you bring back the racetracks? I know they're not super-important, but from what I remember they only took a few minutes to create, and were created by flying a ship around in the desired course. If you could take, say, a few sectors in one of the unallied systems, or even one sector in each major faction space, and turn it into a racetrack, that would add some new enjoyment to the game. And if you could get it to do something cool like add an achievement to your name if you got the #1 place, that'd be even cooler. Or maybe just some combat piloting xp. But I don't remember 40-46 being hard to make, so why not do it again?

Yes, puh-leeze put the racetracks back in! :D. Even as they were implemented before, they were so cool! Did anyone happen to save any screenies of the racetrack sectors?

(These were pre-public version and before we had the entry and exit bays and waypoints, and Waylon had subsequently made the tubes look better and less jointed)

That's actually a great idea Magus ... in light of the backstory there should definitly be challenge arenas in Serco space.

Wow, this would be kinda neat.

Maybe each race has their own tracks and some wandering stranger could go to another race's track (assuming you werne't their mortal enemy) and conquer it.

Plus it would give us something new to do.

Orion there used to be six race-tracks, some short, some long, some with multiple paths you could take, some with opaque tubes...

The tracks would record the best time of the day and message everyone in the sector when someone had broken it.

scazza, the multi-sector universe we exist in now is very different from the one the race tracks existed in. Basicaly they didn't get transfered through the update. I'm sure the devs have always intended to have them somewhere someway in the released game.

I finally found it. I posted to a different thread on the same topic that has already been pushed back a few pages. That's why I had the really bad De'ja vu. I WAS going to complain to Ray that my posts were being deleted ..... :) LOL

Anyway, every time we make major changes to the game, like redoing the entire universe, or restructuring how the AI code works, some of the old features get lost in the transition. Much like the old capital ship, with its many destructable turrets, has not yet reappeared since the major AI redux. Or like defense turrets, period. We will add these things back in again, but some of them require re-coding using the new frameworks we've put in place.

This shouldn't happen much as we go forward, now that we have our "final" methods and frameworks in place for a lot of this gameplay code, and are no longer in a "rewrite the entire AI system" sort of development mode.

Yeah, man, sector 45 was a pain until you learned it. you just didnt know where the hell you were.

Definately bring back the racetracks, they were cool.

the race tracks were cool

piloting is part of combat, completing a race track in a certain amount of time could give up a lil XP :D

and!!! oh i love it when the ideas chain react like this....

the heavier the ship you beat the standard race time in the better the XP reward!!

and!!!!!!

beating the all time record gives some ultimate XP reward!
