Ok now Ive just recently (as in yesterday) thought about using IRC to chat. Well I was originally under the impression that you could talk to people in-game using IRC. Well what I found out is that its broken or non-fuctional or somethin. Actually no one has yet to even tell me why its not workin. Could someone please explain why its not workin anymore? I know it used to.

Because of two things. First, asphy (who hosts) 's X11 server was broken. Then he moved, or something, and FM (who wrote/manages the IRC conduit) can't access anything because asphy doesn't have his DSL yet.

Thanks for answering roguelazer. That is correct, except, he moved; no somethings =P.

Oh, and I Asphyxia needs DSL in order for me to use SSH to access his machine to get the bot running since he allowed me to use his machine to host it.

Well is there any idea as to how things are coming along?

I haven't seen Asphyxia talk for a few days in his new IRC server, so I haven't been able to contact him for that long. I'm not sure what he's doing. Supposedly DSL might have been connected to his new place by now. He also has X working properly now, so the bot should have no problems running on it.

Hmmmm. Well I guess Ill just have to wait then lol. Anyway please make a post or something when everythings back up and runnin. Thanks.

Perhaps if you asked nicely, the other relay would let you in, hive bot or black hive what ever it's called. If they are still even using it.

The IRC/AIM gateway for that bot is closed to public access (I know I've tried ^^;), I think, but you could probably get other access if you asked Alamar politely.

Anyway, Asphyxia just updated me on his status. He's been waiting a whole nine days for Bulldog to switch over to his new line (BT took only 2 days to switch over phone lines). Many phone calls were made and some emails sent. Bulldog is being strange, I hope they give Asphyxia his connection back.

eh, AIM and MSN are plaintext and throttled, hence I also added Jabber support. you can get a random channel relayed to your Jabber account and chat with it from there.

I see no real distinction between that and IRC, except that a *lot* of newer people are a lot more accustomed to using IM protocols. also, there are a few (okay, not so few) ways to avoid spammage and the use of this as just another chat channel. read-only support also exists.

all of these interfaces also give full and normal access to the features that BLAK Hive offers ingame, so you can read notes and look at the player offered missions (and offer yourself to take missions) and so on.

I was only joking, we already talked about this. =P

... I went back to my 3 mb DSL line from NTL, BT suck balls too, seriously, forced proxies and all, if you cant go NTL, move.
