So true, FurBall. Excellent response!

When I first started 3.2.0, I was expecting SOME type of grace period where people would trade peacefully so we could secure ourselves financially, as well as try new features out. StarFreeze and Phoenix, however, had other plans. And it wasn't until then when things started getting ugly. I personally have a newfound respect for newbies now. Having started from zero just like everyone else, I have certainly relearned the difficulties of trading and death, as well as encountering insanely hard bots. And because of that you won't find me attacking unprovoked newbie buses anymore.

Anyway, getting back to the topic of pirates... on THREE separate occasions I managed to get my teammates to help me swarm pirates and kill them repeatedly. Each instance resulted in the pirate either being nearly bankrupt or having them log off. I don't do this for fun, and neither do my teammates. But when someone decides to act up and I constantly hear newbies steaming off and begging for help through chat, rest assured that pirate better be prepared to get teamed up upon SEVERELY. Despite the recent spike of relentless pirates, I'm actually happy to see that most cries of help are actually answered by willingful teammates.

hey dont forget if we hear a n00b whine we replace their stuff no matter what nation :P

- Yeah; I kind of agree with you Fur. But I don't think that this guild is really a big threat to the community right now. We have like 5 members... and I don't exactly expect it to grow very large anytime soon. Let me re-iterate again we are a very honorable guild. I never kill a n00b. 90% of the time I give them money. We don't wish to have anything to do with governmental politics. We pirate completely indiscriminately. If, by chance, we happen to 'ruin' somebody or cripple their ability to make money... we help them back on their feet. If anything, I'm trying to unite the community against a common cause: get the pirates.

- We _may_ make friends outside of our guild, but we make no alliances. We pirate our friends just like everybody else. Theres nothing personal about it and if any member were to do something dishonorable, they are no longer supported by us. We don't throw out insults to those we pirate. If anything, we show them respect.

Yeh... sorry bout that. I'll talk to him a bit about that. But yeh gotta understand all of us are new and trying to get used to pirating. Its not the easiest thing in the world to be an honorable pirate, yeh know. Like I just recently made a huge mistake - I was pirating someone... can't remember who, but I told him "Jettison your cargo or be destroyed." Well, he jetissoned his cargo... but I didn't realize it and continued to attack him... DOH! /me smacks myself on the forehead. Don't worry though, I'm paying him back. Whats your name in Vendetta? I'll have Bluebeard pay yeh back for whatever you lost. But remember.... we're not TOO nice... otherwise we wouldn't be pirates.

Listen, it is impossible to be a nice pirate, pirates just down right suck, they take your cargo that was going to sell for 14*4000=56000 credits, oh wow i love pirates now that they just took my cargo! I wanna give them a big hug! Fear the kris knife!!

Haz, you're missing my point... Ok... :) ANY pirating RIGHT NOW is a bad thing for the community IMNSHO. There is enough bad blood that I CAN postulate a situation where it becomes PERSONAL enough that it spills OUTSIDE OF Vendetta and gets into the real world! (Granted the chances of this happening are {I HOPE!} VERY VERY VERY VERY LOW but still... just let it lay low for a few days... Please. :)

Heh, they're not listening. A group of vigelantes kept Ikaze and Tang in the S11 station for a half hour, chasing them around, destroying them when they tried to leave. How's that for 'profit-driven', suckers?
Apr 23, 2003 hazaanko link
- SL - How would you like this?: A game with bots that sit there and don't shoot back? How about 1 nation? Lets say there were no asteroids.... you don't get hurt by running into stations... Gold Nation is the only nation... OH! and all weapons get taken out because people have complained from being blown up too many times. Wow - sounds like a game to me! -edit: Suicidal Lemming changed his previous post after I posted this... lol-

- I _NEVER_ said we were "nice pirates." Go back and read our main goal. Oh wait, let me just post it again. "MAIN GOAL: to create a much more challenging and fun style of gameplay...."

- oh and furball, I appreciate your opinion... I really do! But I think some people have to realize ITS JUST A GAME. Its not my problem NOR my fault that some people take this game more seriously than they should.

- ctishman. All your arguing is doing is proving my point. That there isn't enough to do in Vendetta right now. Its just a test... its not really supposed to have an endless list of things to keep us entertained. Hell, for all I know, Guild Software is AGAINST me trying to up the ante of the challenge (hopefully they're not). If people DID have enough to do, there would be NO POINT in me creating this guild... and NO POINT in people chasing off pirates. See how much people are receptive to 'fighting off the evil pirates?' There were so many people attacking us we didn't have a chance. And btw... I AM listening. People like you are the ones who are not listening and not seeing what we're trying to accomplish. All I see you doing is try to accentuate the negative parts of what we're trying to do. -edit: I misunderstood... ctishman wasn't arguing against my point... Sry ctishman!!!!-

- Even if you guys are trying to take the fun away from those who wish to play the game a little bit differently... I'M still having more fun than I ever had just running the same old trade route for a few hours and occasionally killing bots/stealing flags. Just try it out!! Whats it going to do? Hurt your reputation? Kill you? Heaven sakes people.

As for the part about "profit-driven" its not profit on each pirating operation, its on all of them. I know weve made about 50k even with me nukng myself and everyone around me over and over. Besides this guild is supposed to encourage teamwork and be fun to be in.

SO STFU!
Apr 23, 2003 ctishman link
Heh, Hazaanko, dude, I think we're doing our best to disagree by making the same point, and it's getting us nowhere. I never said that the pirate guild was BAD for the game, indeed, it has strengthened the community by giving a cross-nation goal, regardless of which side (pirates or vigilantes) you're on. My "they're not listening" statement was for Furball, about pirates quitting their pirating habits for a few days.
Apr 23, 2003 hazaanko link
Lol. Sorry ctishman... my bad. I've just been getting a lot of unwarranted personal attacks lately... I won't point any fingers.... <cough Phoenix coughcough Icarus cough>

Man... do you know how HARD it is to start a guild that you want to be popular?!?!?! Especially a guild whose foundation of power is in its number of members... and its VERY hard when you want to pirate somebody, but you're the same color. And the only way I can even get this guild started is by posting it on the forums... which only like 25% of the Vendetta community reads. THIS IS A PLEA GUILD SOFTWARE!!! GIVE US A NEUTRAL NATION!!!! (or maybe just let me advertise my guild on those "holo-screens" in sector 9) /me grins evilly.

How can stealing be honourable?
Apr 23, 2003 hazaanko link
See what I mean? Some people will try to tear down ideas in whatever way they can. Don't ask my WHY they do it, because frankly, I don't know.

- Ok biscuits... one thing you have to realize here is that "Pirate philosophy" is flawed. Thats why its not so popular in real life anymore. Lol I swear people take this game too seriously. If I thought that stealing was honourable... I'd be doing it in real life. Stealing is not honourable. We're not TRYING to make STEALING honourable... we're trying to make all other aspects surrounding our pirating that we can honourable (in the interests of keeping the game fun).

Hey hazaanko, I'd advise that you take a sailing ship, put a big 'I'm carrying cash' sign up on it, and sail throught the Luzon Strait sometime, then you'll see how people don't pirate anymore. :P

Biscuits: No, a pirate guild by its definition is not honorable, however what he is attempting to do is bring to the pirates some measure of civility, small though that measure may be. By doing this, he hopes to encourage new players to remain with the community and grow prosperous, that they might be... er... harvested later.

LOL, lets make a bunch of unethical unhonourable unorganized slobs into ethical honourable organized people! LOL, I swear, people these days...

My name is Spawn. I lost a Centuaur with an efficient engine, fast charge batter, adv. gattling turret, avalon torpedo launcher and a charged cannon.
Apr 23, 2003 ctishman link
My name is Ku Genin, and I am a Vendettaholic. I feel much better admitting that now.
Apr 23, 2003 hazaanko link
My name is Ikaze and I, also, am a Vendettaholic. I also admit to be a pirate-aholic. OH GOD ITS SO HARD TO STOP!!!! <sniffle> Oh man that feels better.

- Oh and Spawn... I kind-of regret to inform you that I will probably not give you any of your money back unless you really are broke after this incident. If everybody in the Vendetta community said "OMG I JUST GOT PIRATED TWICE! NOT ONCE BUT TWICE!!!" I wouldn't pay them all back, obviously. In fact I can't even be sure if you're telling the truth. It'd be quite an easy way to get money, I'd have to admit. Now of course if what happened to you DID IN FACT OCCUR... I send my greatest heartfelt sympathies... <grin>

- You have to understand where I'm coming from. Vendetta isn't exactly an easy game to communicate to eachother with. Now I say this in sincerity - I really don't want that kind of thing to occur (at least not too often). But seriously, Its not like these Syndicate members are under my direct control. I don't even claim to be 'the leader.' All I can say is that I'll try to get them to live by the Syndicate code of honor. Like I said, they're not exactly strict rules. Mistakes happen, we try to cut back on them - and be reassured that I will try my best to keep people in line. But seriously, I can only do so much between everybody trying to tear down the guild... Phoenix and Icarus being a @#$% for no reason at all... and me just trying to enjoy the game.

- And trust me when I say this: being a pirate trying to keep the game fun is NOT easy. It'd be great if we had more people... <sigh> For all you people who criticize the guild - I'm not going to give up easily (for whatever reason you are... because you're jealous [lol]... because you like the game perfectly how it is and don't wish to see any improvement... maybe because you just like being a jerk because you think it makes you feel powerful... I don't know. I really don't know).

- One more thing I want to know... and I'd really really like feedback on this. You guys LIKE to blow up pirates, right? I mean just because you get pirated a few times everyday doesn't make you go to your beddie and cry does it? From my viewpoint it looks like everybody pretty much hates the pirates (some people with such hatred that it makes me wonder if they're completely sane...). So why is it you think this is a bad idea? Why is it you think this is a GOOD idea? Some people have said stuff like "No I won't join because I don't pirate." I think thats ludricrous. I honestly can't beleive that people ENJOY running 6 hours of trade runs back and forth... back and forth... with the occasional pointless 'superiority' argument between people.
Just think of it!!! Forget what it's like right now: pirates every once in a while harrass a few people... and are easily chased off by a few "Anti-Pirate" ships that throw insults and chase the pirate until he logs off because they have nothing better to do. Rather... think of this: A universe where the further you go into the central sectors, the more dangerous it is... no more easy thumb-numbing-holding-down-the-turbo-key-while-you-chat nonsense. You have to organize a group of two or three traders along with escorts to make a good profiting run. A place where sometimes the pirate threat becomes so great that huge convoys of anti-pirate ships go off and make war to diminish the pirate forces in a sector... ahhhh the grandeur... /me slips off into a wonderful daydream about large-scale battles amidst the asteroids.... <sigh>...

- Perhaps the devs will keep the game as easy and unrewarding as it is right now (I mean no offense to what you've done, devs... this is a beautifully marvelous game [can I use those words...?]. I just think it has yet to be a fully functional game... hence "Vendetta Test.") ALL I am trying to do is to fill out some of the holes that are in the gameplay. I have full faith that Guild Software will fill out these holes somewhere along the line in the future (perhaps by very intelligent and dangerous 'pirate bots'). But until that time... I'll be trying to make the gameplay as fulfilling as possible. JOIN THE SYNDICATE

I'll be the first to admit it-- I'm new around here. But it seems to me a lot of the goals hazaanko just laid out could also be established if people stuck to the clans more. You know? Red v. Blue v. Gold heating up, rather than having a haphazard None. Does that make any sense?
