A WARNING: New Docking limits coming for Dau and Arta Caelestis

To pirates and others who are UIT-Hated, but still dock with other factions in Dau and Arta Caelestis (both UIT Capitol systems). We are currently in the process of engineering another layer of docking security which will prevent people who are UIT Hated from docking at any stations in these systems. In other words, if you are TPG-friendly, but hated by UIT, you will not be able to dock at say.. Dau K10 (TPG Capitol). This is part of the process of securing capitol systems (in advance of removing Friendly Fire restrictions and other changes). This will have no impact whatsoever on your ability to dock with these minor factions outside of Dau/Arta, elsewhere the normal standing restrictions will apply.

For the moment I will not be doing this in Nyrius, Verasi or Azek. You will still be able to clandestinely dock there. If I choose to expand the restrictions to the rest of UIT space, I will post and give a few weeks warning, but I'm not planning on that in the near term.

For those who have equipment at stations in UIT capitol systems: be sure and remove it in the short term (like, within the next week or so). As we still haven't yet implemented "remote selling" and regardless.. if it's equipment you want to keep, it will cease to be accessible unless you raise your UIT standing (see current Suggestions thread about new, simpler mechanics for raising standing).

Ray will be implementing the ability to place these added restrictions this coming week, but I won't be dropping it in immediately. I'll gauge from feedback on this thread if people need more time to "move stuff" or if we need to do some special database shuffling for individuals, but at present you can expect the restriction by, say, by October 1st.

Two questions:
1. What if a UIT hated/KOS player homed in one of those stations before the restrictions were placed?
2. Will UIT hated/KOS players be able to just "chill" at these sectors with stations, or will the station's SF come after the player?

Now this idea I like on the surface. I'll have to think about it further though. I definitely want to see the friendly fire done away with.

However, why not give new players immunity outside of duels or missions like bp or bs from other players until a certain point? Say 4 or 5 combat or a cumulative license score of 10?

Seems to me that something like that would work better than measures like this that may or may not work. And would expand piracy to the whole of VO where it belongs. JMO for whatever its worth.

Shadoen: Homing should be handled in the way it is currently.. if a player is suddenly not wanted at a homed station, their "home" is automatically moved to some other station where they are welcome (worst-case, Corvus). I forgot the specifics, it's been a number of years, but that's how it has worked for some time.

I would not expect Hated/KoS players to be able to "chill" around these stations.. essentially all of the system will become "UIT Guarded" and strike forces will pursue (basically, just like Serco and Itani Capitol systems have been for some time). However, the actual station defense turrets may not activate against the players, so there may be some benefit tradeoff to varied standings.

Fluffy: The problem with giving people "special" invulnerability is the degree of exploitation. As soon as someone can just be "magically invulnerable" while under certain conditions, people will attempt to exploit this.. attacking players who can't hurt them, etc (Case in point, those who already exploit this kind of scenario to get unwitting people to lose massive standing). Yes, you could add a giant forest of "Well, under X conditions, do Y" kind of special-cases to try to mitigate the situation, but I think in the end it's a lost cause and a bad hack of a gameplay solution. Better to just have generalized defenses that make regions "less" dangerous, rather than special unique privileges that create new problems.

Plus, I would rather tell new people "The universe is a dangerous place. Your current system is less dangerous, when you leave, be prepared for attack". It at least gives them the impression of danger from the getgo and provides a realistic learning curve, as opposed to "oh you're never in danger until suddenly.. Have Fun!"

Ugh. Inc, I'll need some more time to move my stuff. I can't resubscribe until next month, but I know I have a bunch of ships and such in Dau and Arta. How about say October 10th? (vskye)

Anyway to login and at least look at my inventory on my expired account?

Relax, they're ships and equipment, all of which are replaceable. You really want to hold the game up because you might lose a ship or 500?

Anyway, I'm all for anything that moves along the removal of friendly fire. Personally I think this is a step in the right direction for a number of other reasons, namely making space more dangerous (actually which FF is a proper hindrance to in a round-about-way). If space is to become truly dangerous, there needs to be proper safe havens.

So.... good to hear :)

Actually, yes Snax_28, and it's not that I'm all that concerned but I still want to actually figure out what I have vs losing it all because of this change, since I have stuff stashed all over the verse.

Just cause you don't have millions of credits stashed all over doesn't mean others don't. Oh, this just doesn't just pertain to ships and equipment either.

Bah, next you will be telling me I can't dock! You may as well just put this thread into action now! > http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/9/16966

(Joking btw)

I think it might be sensible that at least in the capitol systems, I have no where to home. Sod my stockpiles, I am sure I can wait till we can remotely sell stuffs.
Sep 21, 2008 davejohn link
Well, hopefully in the long term there will be far less stockpiling, thus adding a sense of immediacy to the game .

what would happen if a player was hated by everyone and then died? I'd like to see what happens, someone should find out!
Sep 21, 2008 Scuba Steve 9.0 link
Can't, Corvus refuses to hate anyone so much they won't be able to dock.
Sep 21, 2008 Suicidal Lemming link
CrazySpence, awhile back genka had his Corvus standing nuked, what the game did was ping pong him between stations, it kept trying to find one that would accept him. The solution was to restore his Corvus standing, then the game sent him back to a Corvus station.
Sep 21, 2008 MSKanaka link
Lemming somewhat glosses over the fact that the server kept pinging him from station to station so fast that the Guide running the test had a really hard time managing to fix his standing; apparently you can't make modifications while you're in a loading screen...

Just cause you don't have millions of credits stashed all over doesn't mean others don't. Oh, this just doesn't just pertain to ships and equipment either.

Trust me, I've got millions of credits worth of equipment, ores, widgets, trade items, ships, and very intelligent midgets stored all over the galaxy on various different characters. Even if I spent 4 hours a day I stand to lose quite the chunk of change if this gets implemented in a week.

I'm saying it's just money, in a game that is in flux, and to ask for the devs to slow down development on something because you stand to lose in the short term is shortsighted, especially when something like this (steps towards FF removal) has been so desperately desired by the rest of the community. If the majority of people wanted it to happen later then maybe, but not for one person.

I also don't think this should extend to some of the darker corners of nation space. While I'm not worried about getting cut off from some of the nation specific equipment I love (aap's for instance), and think doing so would actually create a more robust gun running economy (go Breazle), I think it would be better for RP story-line and whatnot to leave a few systems (maybe Nyrius/Azek for example) dock-able by anyone who can get through the defenses.

If nothing else, moving all your stuff qualifies as Something To Do. Plus, piracy might be somewhat enhanced. Liquidating might be wise.
Sep 21, 2008 MysticRogue link
I like this idea a lot, I had always wondered why even though I am TPG admired and UIT hated that I could sneak one sector over and they didnt know I was there? I mean I know UIT law is a bit on the slow side but....lol. And getting closer to the FF removal is very good.

Cheers Inc., damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!

P.S. There is a significant number of former frequent players (like me) waiting for the REAL faction system implementation to start playing again.

ive got probably 7 or so XC loads of ship ecquippment in dau, and being uit kos, im basically limited to taurs for moving the crap.

also, can we have an orion station in nyrius? since the only other orion station is in azek
Sep 21, 2008 Ghost link
AAPs are going to be more interesting to get for those with bad UIT standing. I don't think there's an axia station outside of UIT space, though my memory might be wrong.

Anyhow, I guess it's alright. People will just have to find players with good UIT standing to haul AAPs out to grey for them. That and anything that moves this faction change/ff removal is good in my book.
