We should be welcoming new players, not bashing them.

Some of us aren't new at all, just returning after a 6 year absence (yes 6, account created in 02) although I've paid a subscription from time to time for support for the ~2 years we got to play free and a week or so at release and purchased boxed version of the game.

That aside I have been rather bashed the few times I've logged in to try and learn the game again (What ever happened to my lovely rag and swarms) for asking dumb questions. Whistler, you be right mate in the new player bashing, and I have not gotten back into playing because of it.

I'm still here despite Lecter and petryos, so all "people are too mean" arguments cancelled!

I suggested /hidelog be restored!

As for the people who are flaming you ingame (I'm pretty sure you'd get these in just about any game as well)... use /ignore

Maybe VO should come with some players pre-/ignored. that would be hilarious.

If we bowed down to every "stop pirating me or I will quit" demand, then all the pirates would quit. everything else is a shade of grey.

despite the fact that asshats are a small minority, there will always be people that hearing even one, will be dominated by that one. that is not a weakness of the game, but of the individual, and vo will never be the place for both them and me.

You lose by merit that you have insisted that someone will lose. door, ass, ...

I think part of the problem is that some people think the game is actually Drama Queen Online, which causes friction with the rest of the community, who understand the game to be called Vendetta online.

Agreed, although those guilty of that misunderstanding lie on BOTH sides of the newb/vet line.

Oh yes.

Also, hey dragos. I think I know how you feel (rusty). Looking forward to meeting you in-game again...

After a fortnight gaming in VO, I'd certainly say some chill factor on answering new players would be good. I often see the same names that mutter about few players being online, are the same taking shots at new players.

Also.. a little less on the swearing in game. Wow.. I've been on site with the military; which seems now more cordial than VO.

I like the following suggestions :

Licence system to prevent players at preset levels from entering other sectors. Certainly a 'Must be this tall..' style option that works in concert with a 'You were warned..' Message on leaving monitored space.

Certainly I acknowledge alot of new players need to stick out the tutorial missions before asking questions, but overall.. doesnt ruin my day.

@CrazySpence: yes! Vehemetly agreed.

Niki, Elrad, Stress, . UncleDave, Phoenix, Icarus All of them are mean bullies who should be forced to fly busses. Wait, It's Elrad we're talking about...

Offtopic: Hi, I live, No time/money to play really.

I'm so very sorry that you are unclear on the whole point of Vendetta Online. Here, have a cookie.

P.S. There's a filter for swearing, so either you don't like the narrowness of its vocabulary or you turned it off yourself. Feel free to suggest all sorts of new words for it to *****.
Nov 17, 2009 CrazySpence link
I swear but i leave the filter on cause i like the *'s
Nov 17, 2009 ladron link
Why not just make all words *'d out by default, and allow the user to selectively enable words he wants to hear? That way, no one could possibly be offended.

* ***** ***** **** ***** ** * **** ****.

*** ***?
Nov 17, 2009 bull350 link
Can we make it blanks instead? I prefer:

What the _____ do you think you are doing, you ______?

instead of:

What the **** do you think you are doing, you ******?

On a more OT note, peeps should grow a skin. It's a video game for piss sakes. People aren't going to always follow "your" gamestyle. This isn't the first online game to have griefers and flamers...hehe

You're missing the point, bull. As long as some words are allowed through the filter, people are going to get offended. If we want this game to live up to its reputation as Carebears Online, we can't let anyone be offended.

Whether the filter uses *'s or _'s is irrelevant.

Nope, I didn't miss a thing.

I'd like to see more stringent penalties for destroying a player in an NFZ. Say, subtract the faction standing of the destroyed player from the faction standing of the violator (regardless of their relative faction levels), and revoking docking privileges from that faction's stations for a day.

This might help where a pirate has planted himself outside of a station in a heavily-noob area (e.g. Dau). This scenario is particularly problematic because the noob can't defend themselves (which will likely result in the newb being destroyed, but I digress) without taking a faction penalty if the pirate is higher-rated.

I think all he was talking about was the same concept of not letting people fly into gray (or leave the nation) until they're combat 3 or above, that I mentioned.

There's also probably more that should be done with extended periods of temporary KoS (rather than permanent faction drops), to keep repeat-station-kills from being too excessive.

If people would like to suggest more changes to the chat filter, I welcome that, a Suggestions Forum post would be more appropriate.

In the meantime, I think this thread has outlived its usefulness.
