the amount of sheer stupidity talk in game chat is overwhelming, it feels like I am dealing with a bunch of 9 years old. You cant even hide the chat so you dont have to see the sheer amount of stupidity and nonsense spoken in chat channel 100. Until the devs of this game create some system to improve what is been said many other mature players will avoid this game. One thing is to chat and joke but talking about raping my mother/ That is beyond disgusting, specially since my mother died 2 years ago.

dont suggest removing the global chat !! how else will anyone gloat ? That's why /leave 100 is becoming more and more common. It's a shame it's joined by default.

I left 100 and there's absolutely nothing missed.

I will be the first to admit sometimes my jokes can go too far...but I keep mine generic and not targetted towards any person. You should put in a support ticket if someone is making personal insults towards you of that nature. This is a sandbox game, but some of the insults lately in chat have been over the top.

The OP is more 'prudish' than 'mature'. That isn't to make any judgement on the validity of the complaint. However, the OP reads like an emotional outburst- which makes me less than sympathetic.

If someone was talking about raping your mother specifically, I have to believe that you were involved in the discussion at least until you became offended. Barring personal attacks, I don't believe any topic should be taboo, including rape, so without the context of the entire discussion, I refuse to 'take your side'.

As has been mentioned above, you can /leave 100. You can also send a copy of the conversation to GS in the form of a support ticked by copying and pasting from your errors.log

Otherwise, if you choose to stick with your decision to leave, I wish you the best and hope that you find an entertainment source more to your liking.

BTW, my mother died 2 years ago as well. On Mothers Day.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience and felt the need to leave the game, Kambalo.

As others have said, you can use /Leave 100 or /Ignore "player" to avoid seeing chat you find objectionable.

If something is really over the line, by all means do copy the offending text to the devs. Be aware that they can search to find record of the conversation once they have your snippet.

Frankly, I am not bothered if people who are too stupid to use simple commands like /leave or /ignore are alienated.

I think the point is that a new player coming out of training shouldn't be auto-joined into a channel by default that serves no beneficial purpose to gameplay. If it's going to be a no-holds-barred anything goes channel, then it should be opt-in. Not opt-out.

The devs are not doing themselves any favors when any new player who sticks on long enough to pass training is dropped into the vitriol and nonsense that is common in 100.
Oct 15, 2014 TheRedSpy link
People used to only be joined to ch 1 when they left training. Ch 1 is for people who want help about the game but new players would get on there and crap on about all sorts of things. The channel for that is ch. 100 and its auto joined to keep that crap out of channel 1 so people can just get game help.

That's why it has to be auto-joined. If you don't like it just /leave 100 it's not going to change back.

Actually, the client only automatically listens on 100; it still leaves 1 as the active channel for chatting. And as a result, many newbies remain on it, chatting. I think one of the tutorial missions might tell them to /join 100, but many obviously don't bother.

Don't let the doorknob rip your stretched out balloon-knot as you depart, Miss Priss.

If you don't opt newbs in to 100, then they think the place is uninhabited.

The internet tubes are rife with verbal attacks on mothers. We have the tools for self-moderation. The alternative is a level of external moderation that some will find inadequate while others find oppressive. I prefer to decide for myself. I generally ignore "mother" comments, but I'll sometimes alternate that she's either dead or elderly and desirous of attention, depending on the comment. One of those is probably true.

Sorry you had to leave, Kambalo. I think you'll find any internet community has its share of trolls, and an IRC type platform can lead to a certain type of experience not everyone is "okay" with. There have been times I've been offended by something written in chat (usually after the fact when reading paste logs), but nothing I've had to leave the game over. In my experience, these instances are few and far between: far from being the norm. If someone was being truly abusive, send the devs an email; they can look it up.

In the long run, having a community where everyone has to figure out how to play together vastly outweighs the downside of the occasional brash statement, in my opinion. As others have said, /leave 100 and /ignore "player" are two handy tools (there is also /vote mute "player", which sends the offender a polite, anonymous warning in white text the first time it's used, if I'm not mistaken).

Occasionally, I've had to log off just to cool down. I try to remember that everything I react to is based on a domino effect between my two ears. Sometimes, having a little bit of time between what caused the reaction and looking back on it can provide some useful perspective.

I understand your points and I thank you for your advises, to me the devs need to create a way where I can hide the chat completely, right now I cant, I tried to change channel, still 100 pops automatically every time someone says something.

It is hard to avoid when almost 1/3 of your screen is filled with the chat. Please make so that we can hide chat completely and only have active those channels we are interested in listening to or better said reading on.

There are a lot of differences in the chat, sometimes is really nice listening to people asking for escort or people who engage into a fight and thanking each other or debating about issues that concern the game or concern them but talking about how big is your tick or how do you got another player pregnant or how many girls you had sex with or like two nights ago constantly talking crap about players mother and my only interaction was to ask to respect other player's mother and immediately I was told by some player that he will rape my mother? C'mon that is over the top. I dont bother with support ticket because I already submitted one 3 days ago and still no response.

Kambalo,

Type /leave 100 in to your chat window and you won't receieve anything from that channel. At present, to my knowledge, there isn't a way to make the chat window dissappear completely. On PC, this isn't much of an issue, but if you are on a tablet or phone, I expect it could easily cause problems. Having an option to remove the chat window entirely is a good idea and should be posted to the Suggestions forum.

Keep in mind that Guild Software is a small company with a lot going on behind the scenes. I have submitted various tickets in the past, none for complaints about other players, and they have always acknowledged my submission in what I considered a reasonable amount of time, though I have not always been privy to their response or actions taken.

there used to be a /hidelog command it was wonderful

What everyone but CrazySpence has failed to point out is that you can hide the chat. It's in Options.

"Please make so that we can hide chat completely and only have active those channels we are interested in listening to or better said reading on."

It already works this way, as people have tried to tell you over and over. If you type /join (without any numbers), you'll see a list of channels that you're listening on. You can have up to 32 of these. /leave will let you delete them.

"I tried to change channel, still 100 pops automatically every time someone says something."

You only changed the active channel. What you need to do is to leave the channel. This is accomplished with the command /leave 100.

I typed /leave 100 over three years ago and I enjoy the game more now. Try it before you leave for good.

Well, would you look at that: yet more proof that we need smarter noobs.
