Hello to all and a new players view

Jan 14, 2015 HMPDahak link
First hello to all :) Names HMPDahak, but just call me dahak (HMP is the title, those who have read David Webber's
Empire from the ashes would already know this lol)

Found game on playstore, fell in love straight away. This is THE game I've been looking for on a mobile platform for 5yrs now. (Imperium Galactica 2 is currently fulfilling my MoO2 needs)
Have played a bit, aquired 1/1/2/1/1, so I've had a go at everything so far except PvP. And I have this to say...

# Make it more android compatible! ie. Even if a separate client has to be made you need to have a button config layout better suited for touch, droid buttons is an extreme fix that the common new player won't even use/know about/understand how to use. And they will uninstall
#Very few of us have controllers for our tabs. I'm now looking at buying one, however the average player isn't going to for one game. And they will uninstall
#After spending count less hours on forums I know this game was built on PC, and survived over 10 years because of a community of loving determined players keen to see a game much as there's as the devs thrive. But you guys have to at least see some reason because it will benefit for you (I've seen other android users post here and get called noobs for saying such things) I'll explain how.
# For 2 years I've played a mobile space mmo called The Infinite Black. I still don't have endgame gear or even close. Its free to play but people will pay around US$10,000 for endgame ships and gear through in game currency, and I mean a lot of people. Just the 2 main Alliances will spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars each day fighting each other. AND IT'S A M.U.D GAME! No moving rt graphics! If this game was a bit more android friendly, even had a separate client for it, you would hugely expand player base with people willing to pay the low monthly premium subscription cost.
#The reason this game is truly free to play and you can't buy you're way to the top gear is the reason I'm liking it so much though, not to mention its not just good super alliance of guilds vs bad super alliance of guilds + smaller alliances with no chance to even compete, but a huge selection of guilds with very intertwined politics.

Annnnnd lastly can someone please actually explain simply how to install a plug in app and droid buttons and how when what where to use it. Because I'm not good at the computer stuffs lol

Welcome to VO :)

I'm a PC player but I agree that we all need the mobile players, to fill up both the empty galaxy and the never full enough dev coffers.

I sincerely hope that the devs can sort out the interface and other problems to make the game fun for mobile players and have the compete in PvP on a footing as equal as possible.

As I argued before, I think f2p players should have access to any piece of gear in the game provided they do the hard work in-game and pay money to the devs. I don't care whether someone pays monthly or just occasionally, as long as they pay and as long as the pay does not relieve them of the need to grind just like the rest of us.

Welcome

Is there a way to make the touch flight controls better for combat? I have trouble conceptualizing how it should be without sing a gamepad.

Could not have said it better myself. I do disagree about the grind bit though. There is no reason us vets would or should get peeved because someone paid cash for a top tier ship. They would still have to know how to use it. Sure us prem members have to grind for ours, but it really isn't that hard of a grind.

Welcome to VO, and thank you for bringing up some good discussion points. I look forward to shooting at you :-)

I have always personally been under the belief that the mechanics of this game disallow all possibility of a pay to win system. Outcome of battle is determined by pilot skill and competence, it as simple as that. That is, after all, what everyone loves about this game.

I say this:

Allow F2Pers to continue to gain experience points, but keep their licenses capped at 4/4/4/4/4 because manufacturing should be the perk of being a subscriber. Then when they have enough experience points that would put them at the required license for whatever equipment they want, you give them the option to pay $$$ for the desired items. This should be something that is extremely ineffective cost-wise, naturally. Maybe $0.50-$0.99 a ship and something similar to that for weapons.

This way, the access provided will produce a heightened sense of equality among the F2Pers and Lite Subscribers, which will improve retention rates. Also, it allows loads more money to flow in. I would estimate an increase in revenue of at least 15%-30%. For the development of this game, it is worth it.

I could continue listing LOADS of benefits, while the list of deterrents would be much shorter. Imagine all the possibilities stemming from this change.

Well, that challenge there would be mixing direct-payment-for-items with secondary-currency, I would rather use one or the other (and we already migrated from direct-payment to secondary-currency). It's really the existence of the secondary currency that keeps things from being perceived as pay to win (from a certain point of view), as it allows a "free" means of acquiring the same content via sufficient time or grind or whatever.

But anyway, I'm not against allowing people to use crystal to buy access to increased license level (that their actual character has "hit" anyway), or specific content, etc. I do support the notion of keeping Manufactured content (particularly big "endgame" stuff, like capships) as a subscriber-exclusive for now, but that can be done via some other means than simply limiting levels.

For the record, when I say "pay money to the devs" I don't care whether it is $$ or crystals, as I assume that a good percentage of crystals is directly bought. I'm not sure how you get crystals otherwise, but I assume it is more grind of some sort. I there are people who can't afford (or choose not) to pay but are willing do do more grinding, I (as a subscriber) don't hold a grudge against them.

[Frankly, I'm lucky enough to be able to easily afford the $10 each month, so I would be more disgruntled if people got the ships without (license) grinding than if they got it without paying. ]

Okay so playing for free meant I would either have to grind for crystals or purchase them for real life money. I then decided to subscribe premium anyway as I enjoy the game so much. Upon which I discovered I no longer need crystals to buy ships, just a small amount of credits, which can be easily obtained. I can see its setup to attract a long term player base rather than people just buying there way to everything, playing a bit of PvP and getting bored and moving on. That's OK for the devs coffers short term but not for the game longterm. A larger player base is the best and that brings us back to my point. An easier android interface ie. having something like droid buttons already built in would greatly increase the people
on android getting into the game.
