Stuck in a Rut

I'm Serco with 3 characters. Get to level 10 or 12 on a character and I get bored. Kill the Queens, Fight the War, La De Da....

I'm not into PVP so I went to UIT and raised my UIT faction score to max in 2 long sessions. Went to Corvis to try to do the same and it will take months of play to do the same there. I only play a few hours at a time.

I need to see some kind of progression somewhere somehow regularly or it isn't fun anymore.
Like I said: I'm not into PVP.

Any suggestions??

Well if you are into PvE you could aim to kill a leviathan by yourself. But if you are not into combat whatsoever, then building a trident is the endgame for those type of people.

Enjoy the game without being attached to one particular idea. Help others in whatever role you find necessary. "A good traveler has no fixed plans, and is not intent on arriving" -Lao Tzu.

To directly address your question:

As greenwall suggested, try building a Trident. Even attempting this will really change your perspective.

One of the more recent mission trees I've husbanded into production with the PCC involves six characters and thirty-nine missions. The characters are:

Torson Morfench
Adam Penultimate
Cresello Low-Wa
Blue Veda
Maya Tellamurinen
Barkara Zen

You could try playing through each of their arcs to see ways that their stories are interconnected.

Try earning your Intermediate Trader badge; you'll learn how the dynamic market reacts to player activity, become proficient in the secrets of trading, and build up some capital you can use in any way you want.

Try earning your Veteran Hive Hunter 3 badge; you'll become fearless in battle, learn exactly how the Hive reacts in any given situation, learn the personalities of the AI governing each individual bot, and develop a keen awareness of what is around you at all times.

Try keeping a journal.

That's all I have for now :-)

This thread should be noted as some of the best advice a veteran player has ever given a new player

I would like to take the time to ask, why no interest in PVP? Is it because you do not like to lose? Or some bigger issue that I am not seeing.

Although the advise given is sound, I would like to point out that although there is plenty of PVE available, once its done it is done. PVP however always has more to offer, in the long run. Whether its 1v1 with no real goal, or a group activity with a reason (station conquest, border wars, CTC) there's always fun/frustration/excitement to be had.

Just grab a gun and start blasting folk. Trust me, once you get a taste for it you will never look back.

I had interest in PvP. But after dying about 4000 times without getting better and finding nobody who teaches PvP I gave up. PvP is the best thing in VO, but it is very very hard.

baofenguv5r, I agree with yoda, have you tried pvp? If so, why didn't you like it? I know from experience it can fun to pvp even if you die more than everyone else. Just keep thinking that you'll get better someday and enjoy yourself (even if that day doesn't come very quickly).

Thank You all for your suggestions. I will follow your advice. I still find the game peaks my interest.

As to the PvP subject - I used to play MechWarrior (all flavors). I was rather good at it. Wish we had more longer duration multiple player arena / mission type events similar to that, which were available 24/7 . It was brutal but massively fun. One sector for Arena with multiple 'roid strongholds and mid-field obstacles and another with a capture the flag theme (single flag and/or team flag varieties).
Just some thoughts.

Thanks to all!

I remember ray hosting a capture the flag event in Sedina every so often, a few years ago. I wonder if someone could revive that or come up with some other events to liven up the community?

Regarding corvus faction, get a player or two to help you and it will go much faster.

Regarding more community events, there should be a channel devoted to on-the-fly missions, similar to 201 and 202. Spawn a few cap ships in b8 or wherever. I like this approach to missions as it's more spontaneous and keeps everyone on their toes.

I'll chime in with the fact that this game is sandbox and you can do with it what you wish. Creativity goes a long way. For example, one thing that hooked me early in the game wasn't anything to do with game play that the devs intended - it was FAMY. A guild who does the "usual" pirating in a fun, creative way. They're not pirates... They're warranty salesmen! What a fun idea. I gave them money in the beginning just because it was so clever.

Start a "business" that intrigues you. EMS exists to help newbies, perhaps you could try to become a mentor and relay the experience you've gained by leveling so many times to level 10+.

That was momerath42 who hosted the CTF event.

Maybe ITAN and ONE could take turns bringing a dent out full of SSS to the death in B8 (or preferably multiple dents) and announcing it in advance. Each side could time it so it's a defend/fight to the death. Maybe Friday or Saturday nights at a certain time, each taking turns knowing it will eventually blow, then everyone fights over the dent load of SSS. If I had a dent, I'd volunteer the dent and heck, maybe FFSA instead of SSS just for an hour or so of GFS seeing everyone trying to collect some.

BTW, a dent load or more of FFSA would be more fun to fight over... it would require teams to defend the bigger ships that have to come in to collect it.

I also would be willing to donate some of the cargo for this event and eventually a dent, too.

Given the imbalance of vet/players in the game, I won't be bringing out a trident of SSS for anyone to purposely blow up every week. But by all means, the devs can do this.

How about a sector for dueling that has such a high level of Electromagnetic emissions that it prevents proper targeting (a/a and missile tracking malfunctions)? Where shots dissipate after 200 meters due to the density of particles.

And / or a huge field of asteroids orbiting around a gravitic center at 50 to 100 m/sec in rings like Saturn. Get too close to the center and it drags you in.

Maybe a dueling "Sphere of Death"? Two ships enter - One ship leaves. Kind of a cross between Thunderdome, a cage match, Ender's Game and Robot Wars/BattleBots. That would make a beautiful spectator sport if it was made of mesh.

Some TRI guys and I had an idea tonight about a sumo match with XC's. Maybe use that skeleton frame of a station in Edras as the boundary.
Apr 08, 2015 abortretryfail link
I often announce when I'm flying a 'dent full of CtC cargo around, but more often than not nobody even tries to blow me up.
Apr 08, 2015 greenwall link
Given my cowardice, I won't be bringing out a trident for any reason whatsoever.

Fixed that for ya, 'oRe.

Back in your trident Wally, you'll be safe there.
