Sectors

What's with these weird racing pipes or whatever in sectors 40-47? Are they just for racing or will there be some greater purpose later on? They are kinda cool, and strangely intriguing, but seemingly pointless... Just curious

At one time there were scripts that would let you compete for the best time through the pipes. Those scripts went MIA about a month back, and for some reason nobody's fixed them.

yeah fix the tubes...

george carlin says: this country is going down the tubes... What tubes?, and why isnt it timed?

haha

I like racing...

Maybe if we organised a racing event and had 20 people try to fly through the tubes... i would put up my own money to see that... i would allow them to shoot each other also!!

that would be sweet...

hmmmm... let me poke around the IRC area and see if people are interested.

The tubes represent the content auto-generation engine. They were made by a dev flying around with a special engine. FiReMaGe made some once. Eventually I believe they plan to allow entire sectors to be created by users.

'understand your enthusiasm zoid, but that cool was just too long; take out a few O's?
content auto-generation engine. wow. I want to fly one.
I can imagine how it's possible to create thousands of sectors with no problems now.

Heh um, no, they weren't autogenerated. Well, they sort of were, but with Max script in 3DSMax, not flying around laying pipe.

They used to time you, but then Ray merged that with the mission code and there's no way for ordinary users to get the 'race' mission, so.. it's broke.

the 2 sectors that were made with auto generations were not backed-up and dissappeared after a short time. 407-408 or whatever it was.

actually the autogen'ed sectors were 404 and 405.

so if the races are now part of the missions.. how do un-ordinary users get them a1k0n?

tell tell.

"/oper /gimme_a_mission"?

You write a lua script and execute it in the sector. It's pretty awesome. In 3.4, it might be under the Missions tab in the stations in 41-46, or it might just give you the mission by virtue of you racing, or (most likely) we might totally forget about 41-46.

What about just giving the user the mission when they fly into the sector and contact the sector daemon like we do to get a botkilling mission?
Apr 14, 2004 jeffgodofbiskuts link
how exactly do you get a bot killing mission?
Apr 14, 2004 roguelazer link
Don't bother asking, it has a tendency to cause problems in client.

reviving the racing sectors is not a priority right now. but we did it once, we can put it back in again sometime.
