Ooo, the warping should be rubberband style, like in Star Trek! :P

Woo hoo!

I expected 'Soon' to be said instead of "not-too-distant future" but you faked me out :(.

Oh well. You did say soon sooner or later.... at the end of the letter.

Woo hoo! 7000+ Sectors to navigate in!

I'm curious, how do you go about making 8000 sectors? Are most going to be large, wide open, and featureless?
May 27, 2004 Pyro link
My guess is that most of them are randomly generated, except for the more popular ones...

Okay, I think I have an idea of how this'll work. But correct me if I'm wrong, devs. Current way of traveling between sectors will be how you'll travel between systems. The way you'll go from sector to sector will not be dependent on location, but rather asking your ship's navigation system to take you to sector #. After the request has been made, a countdown will occur and your ship will be put through a nifty "warp speed" animation until you've reached your destination, at which point your ship will slow down as this warp animation comes to a close until you finally see the new sector come into view.

Wow, I can just picture this now. It's making me drool so much... if it's what I imagine. Sort of like the smooth elevator transition from level to level in Metroid Prime. Various camera angles of your character moving along at fast speeds until it slows down and introduces you to the next level. Woot! And by the looks if it it'll only be a matter of clicking on the sector you want to go in your sector map mode to ask your navigation computers where to go. Of course... if they wanted to make it super easy.

=d

Why do I have a weird feeling that Arolte is going to be let down, and the real 'warp' feature is completley different.

No, each system is hand crafted by eight thousand wayonic monks. They slaved for so long over such intricate work that they are now mostly blind, and have such severe carpel tunnel syndrome they can no longer dress themselves. They dream only in polygons and UVW mapping co-ordinates.

Sound cool tho. Keep up the good work.

Shhh, MonkRX, don't shatter my dreams. If you haven't noticed by now I live in my own little world. Nobody can take that away from me! Not even pills...

If you put 100 Waylons in a room in front of computers, given an infinite amount of time, would they eventually produce a usable frigate? :P

no

I disagree Kelle. Waylon rocks. I see thousands of frigs. And one in s16 in less than a week.

Please?

Waylon is god. He could do anything.

Well, that will be a welcome change from the only 18 sectors we have now.

Though, remeber to add variaty to the sectors, not just leaving every sector to the standerd, one station, roid belt...

This is gonna rock. With the number of people who have been on as of late, each of us could have our own private sectors. We could be domineering warlords!
May 27, 2004 Blacklight link
w00t! 7,680 sectors.

Awwweessoommmee!!

sounds like Elite - with systems each having 256 sectors :)

Only you could fly between sectors without using hyperspace if you wanted to :(

Can you name sectors after players?

rogue:
hehe. then, for vendetta cartography, we can just each send in the details of our own sector to Morbidly Wrong.
