Its a lonley universe...

Jun 24, 2004 sly.spoon link
well I just got updated yesterday to "THE NEW UNIVERSE!" and was very exitted but when I pressed t and said "hi people, so hows this new universe thing work?"

I got no reply so i wandered around and was lucky enough to run into a
friend and he told me about the new warp thing and how it works then i asked

"why isnt anyone saying anything?" he said "not sure i just got on a min ago and ran into someone who told me how to play" so then I ran into someone

and they told me about how the chat thing works, and how i cant talk to everyone on vendetta, or for that matter, ever create a group mission unless I

talk in a long ranged chat (which it seems i can only say something every 50 seconds) and can only be seen in a station, the game is just feels really empty

right now and just feels like a solo non interactive multiplayer game

Please change it so i can talk to EVERYone on vendetta or if theres something i should know like how i can find out whos online or how to chat to people more easly post a reply

It's called the Active players list

The large universe is empty because theres not that many people online.. Once the stress test begins, you will see a lot more people.

Read up on some of the threads discussing the new chat system also. There are still a good number of players online, but the reason you're not seeing any of the chat is because you're not within range. Global chat is no longer something that is visible throughout the entire universe. The only way to communicate with other players at long range would be to either do a /say_system or dock at a station and use the long range (team only) chat area there.

aww FM.
sly.spoon: a good way to talk to people is to look at the active players list before you hop ingame, remember who you want to talk to, and form a group to include those people when you logon. group chat isn't restricted by time, and also informs you where each of the group members are.
you can also invite people you know to be your "buddy".
/buddy <name> puts a player on your /buddy list, and supposedly this function tells you when someone you know comes online

Ah...just when global chat is removed, someone comes along advocating for its return...

The buddy list does notify you when buddies log in and out.

I see no irony, if I remember correctly the player base had a bit of division as to if removing global chat was good or not. It's not like everyone was screaming to have it removed and are now asking for it back. There were comments on both sides of the fence.

My summation of the arguments is basically thus: It will be necessary for the final crowded universe but will SUCK for the fairly empty test. Esp. at night (USA) when the Europeans play and the population drops off. Trading is somewhat dull without anyone to talk too.

Ed. Oh I get it...

The irony not that a change was requested, but who was requesting the change in this thread.

It was..... me, I think, who started the original thread.

I also proposed having a "global" chat room available before you're logged in, and your username is your account name. Might be a good idea to have...

From what I've learned:

"Global" chat now only works within a sector. I tested it with a guy in the very next sector and he didn't hear me, so that makes the former "sector only" chat useless.

Team chat is now the Long Range stuff you can do in stations. I think that's AWESOME!! It makes it feel all the more real with the 50 second delay and stuff.

If you're in a group and do group messaging, you can talk to anyone (in the group), anywhere, anytime (sound like a phone company ad?). I talked to my other group mates on the other side of the galaxy with no wait time and no hidden fees!

Same thing with private messaging, I also tested this. As long as you know their screen name, you can chat with em all you want, anywhere.

Silicon, you're Nova6, right?

Anyway, I agree with you. The message system rocks. What are the commands for guild and help messages, though?

for the small amount of players that we have now, it blows.

But with the future in the eye it will probably be a good thing.
