Despite searching, I've been unable to find a nice lil FAQ or updated manual on the new universe. The forums lack a nifty search feature :(

so, here are some questions, and a few explanations of what I've figured out:

Navigating:
YOu can't go from point A to point B immediately. First, you need to at least 3000m from the nearest large object. (This can be a pain, as you can distance yourself from one object, only to come closer to another. It's be REALLY useful to have an indicator to the nearest safe distance point.) Once far enough, bring up the nav screen ('n', remember), and select the sector you wish to go to, then click on "plot course", that'll make you jump there. If your destination is in another system, then select the wormhole sector that goes to that system. (check out the universe map to see through which systems you have to pass through... beginner trade missions only ask you to go to neighboring systems). To use wormholes, go to the wormholes (blue swirly thing on the radar), and press 'activate' (ENTER key, usually).

And that's the only useful thing I figured out. For chatting, there are other threads here discussing it, go see them, I'm too lazy to write the stuff here. (or someone else add an explanation in this thread, it would be nice to centralize the info)

Local Mission Bot chat:
How does this work? Can you chat with it while in space, or only in a station? It says "send a private message", but /msg doesn't work (can't find the 'player'). This needs a little clarification. Once in a station, in general chat you can get a reaction from the bot by starting your sentences with words distinctive to the bot, it seems. But then, how do you select the aswers it suggests? typing the number doesn't seem to work (I managed to do it once, then forgot how I did :/ )

Combat Missions:
"Go nuke some bad-ass drones". Ok. Sure. Where are they? I am NOT going to spend an hour searching for the bitches.

Getting better ships:
How do you have access to other ships than the infamous bus? Through higher rank in smthg? In what?
Where can you buy components? I felt real dumb buying the bus with only an engine, then finding out the station I was in didn't sell power cells.

A comment:
The game has become SLOW. There's no more action, players are spread all over the place. Sure, it's nice to provide for a ton of players, but in the meantime, this is boring. The universe must grow with the players, not be huge and empty to start out with... Furthermore, getting from one place to another is LONG. This is a game! We don't want to simulate the 50 years it'd take to go to Barnard's star at light speed! I play a game to have fun, and pressing tab to get to that darn next wormhole, or getting away from any massive object is NOT fun.

Also, please don't flame this thread. It isn't because you know smthg that it's obvious to others. Please be helpful, consider it as an in-forum /mentor :)

Local Mission Bot: You have to /msg the bot. Its name can be found by pressing "U"

Better Ships: Gain levels. Under the missions tab there are options to choose from. You need a combination of Combat and Trade XP to unlock new ships, weapons, engines and batteries.

Combat Missions:
Itani > sector K-4
NT > sector K-9
Serco > sector k-7

Those are 3 of the locations of Drone I and II bots.

type this into your wgaf.cfg file:

alias misnbot "/msg '*Mission Computer %sector%'"
bind "key" misnbot

If the variable %sector% still works, it will default to the sector id of your current sector.

Thanks for the info except... what systems for the combat missions?

Finding them is half the fun.

> "The game has become SLOW"

Indeed, it has, but this is only temporary. Remember, this is going to be a MMORPG. The reason it's slow right now is because the game is lacking in both players and content.

Thing to remember is that this TEST is not meant to be full of action, it's not even meant to bring you rewarding gameplay. What it's meant for is to allow guild to get some real world test data from their software.

Be patient, the content will come and player signups will be opened soon for stress testing so vendetta will become the busstling universe it once was again. Although, if you're looking for "instant gratification", you may wish to consider one of the many finished mmorpg's out there.

As for one of your comments.

a) Local mission bot chat. This can be greatly improved by careful use of the tab key. If a mission bot has asked you a question (e.g. would you like more work) then simply hit TAB to have vendetta automagically fill in "/msg *Mission Computer xxxx* " for you. You can then just append '1' or '2' to the end and hit enter.

Likewise if you need to message a computer bot directly type '/msg *' then hit tab to have vendetta fill in the rest. Have a practice with that, it works with player names too.

I've found that usually it tab-completes to "*Mission Computer 1". I'm going to propose a separate chat command for the mission computer bot, and (this is Waylon's idea) some default key bindings for messaging it "1", "2", "3", etc.

Finding bots isn't too hard, but it can be tedious if you're looking for a particular type of bot. Bots are usually in sectors where asteroids appear on the nav map. In some of Serco space, there is also a comment about 'Pilot training sector' or something, but only a couple systems seem to be labelled like that. We'll label the rest of the universe in this manner to save you a trip.

An indicator displaying the nearest point away from any massive objects seems like a good idea although it's computationally very difficult to do exactly, and if we did it exactly it would shift around constantly as you move. So, maybe a better idea would be a command to mark a nav point for the approximate nearest exit point.

"So, maybe a better idea would be a command to mark a nav point for the approximate nearest exit point."

EXCELLENT. Is it going to be like a targetted ship and have those little arros to point where it it?

Barnard's Star is with about 6 light years the forth nearest star to earth, exluding the sun. so it should take not much more than 6 years to travel there with light speed. Not 50 as mentioned above. Now isn't that good news?

Alkon aint it possible to just default it to the sector where you are in in case a missionbot messages you? Considering that if you message the missionbot in the sector you are in , he will still know all the information...

Not to mention that to many binds are clogging my keyboard :D

cheers
