What about this game will get people hooked?

The problem is that we are not dealing with a finished product. Nobody really signed up and played in the new universe. Nobody here was hooked by this universe. Part of the fact maybe the lack of players... or lack of contact.

The thing that got me hooked to this game was the players and combat. I died 15 minutes into the game. Thats what made me come back... I wanted to kick that NPC's *** all over the sector... Vendetta is unlike the other MMORPGs ive played before, where everything is nice and safe... :P.

All I hope for is more combat. I want to have some kind of combat... where we can actually win something useful... like flag capping... It gave you money, and it added to your Nation's flag cap stat (not to mention your own stat). It showed which nation was superior (or had more time on thier hands :P). In the old universe, you can see some serious role playing... People hating each other :P. Taunts, clan wars.... clan corruptions... ect... All of that stuff was all because of Vendetta. (or most of it, at the very least, vendetta had some PART to do with those things).

Combat is fun, but my opinion is that this game was made for role playing in space and I believe that it is what is meant to hook more role play fans into a game like this. And I agree with sally ride, cause I could go on forever too.

Being probably the newest beta tester, I can say a few things:

Things I LOVE:

1. This game has the appeal of having lots and lots of control over your spaceship... I've always loved that ever since Descent 1, 2, Freespace, Descent 3, and so on...
2. The game has a very intuitive feel to it
3. The melding of flight skill and role playing

Things that are average right now:

1. The graphics - Okay, don't jump down my throat to much, but I'm comparing to Eve Online here - the graphics for space in Eve are breathtaking, and thats over a year ago. Compared to E&B on the other hand, the graphics in VO are arguably better.

Things that need improvement:

1. The graphics in the menus and station, nav menu, etc... all seem "unpolished" ... not up to par with the experience given in the game by flying in space is what I can say.

All that said... I think the developers are amazing and are doing a great job with the size they are. I've been developing for years and what they are doing is incredible... they have a lot of drive, but I'm sure all the vets know that already :)

Heres to a great game that is getting better :) I'm glad I'm here!

well, I...( rant coming!) got told about vendetta by my pal, and when my dad let me play (when my pal let me play on his mac it was still ions and lazers ) it was 3.2?
I joined as zamzx on red and play'ed a bit until I found capping Then I went to the blues, and capped, then as I went to the gold's I ran into Asp as I had the flag, Asp, killed me on the spot. and I joined gold as "zamzx GOLD" as soon as I logged out. before this, I never used the chat much, but then.....Every one and his mother found that I HAD UBBER SUCKY SPELLING MWHAHAHAHAH! (but I never used "u"!) so thus, with much eh..... un-nice talk about my spelling I set forth to seek out spelling! and as I was still bad at spelling I saw kesten and, I Ask'ed to join him, and then I went on as Blackhole Razerclaw and did a lot of killing in 9 (with the help of my rr and insta-nuke!)

then, I got board with that, and I join gold as Blackhole Goldclaw and kill a lot of IMN's then......well...... you know.

The drive to increase skills/stats in an online game cannot be overesstimated. Uo has it down pat, OSI...err EA changes what skills are good for combat every few months, to keep the players on thier skill gaining treadmills. This keeps them paying.

I really don't think it has much that hooks people. I started playing 2 years ago and maybe log in once every other month now. The game has died in my opinion. It used to be a "test engine" so I could justify all the crap that went on but now so close to the release date and still so far from a game I would pay for I've just lost the will to play. I don't think I'm the only one.

Hey you're still here after two years. Sounds like there were reasons for you coming back every other month.

I think he's the reason the devs aren't doing the open beta yet. Or he embodies it. People will see the game and say "Damn that's cool!" and then turn around and say "But what about..."

Vendetta is awesome and I'd pay for it now. But someone coming from EB, Jumpgate or EvE might log in, see the relative lack of polish and not stick around to get hooked.

trippin, weren't you banned a long time ago? If you want people to respond to you seriously, perhaps you should have thought about that before slinging insults at everyone on IRC and the forums.

Jeez. Trippin, if the game sucks so bad, why don't you go elsewhere.

Perhaps if you think the game is bad, you should make suggestions to improve it, rather than just spewing complaints?

In Answer to raynes questions:

Vendetta Vs star wars JTL

Jump to light speed is an Add-on, thus meaning you have to have a pretty high level chracter to buy a ship. But if your not interested in Everquest style play then that could become boring fast. Also this will be cheaper buying a single game than a game and an expansion pack.

I doubt that the JTL team has as much dedication as the vendetta team, infact i doubt they even notice fans are there....

Vendetta V EVE

Has anyone actually played EVE here? i betaed it for a while but there one thing i can say...

IT IS BORING!!!

Whats the point of flying a cool looking spaceship through a fantastic universe if the flying is boring.

POINT AND CLICK?!?!?!

Flying in vedetta is a pure joy in comparison. I mean i sat and pushed asps vult around a sector for 30mins.....
Thats longer than i could stand playing EVE

Graphics don't mean squat if the game ain't fun to play.

So thats my view on things :D

EVE is the most beautiful space mining simulator on the planet. But its not much more than that. Unless you spend a good year getting your stats up to be able to afford any ship that can stand op to other players in combat.

What gets people hooked an a particular game? Well, first and foremost, I think the game has to be fun to play. Secondly, there has be an element of newness added to the game at intervals. When playing a game starts to wear you down, you stop playing.

Earth & Beyond was certainly fun to play. Although nothing new has been added to the game in several months, for the average player there is the probability that perhaps there was new content added when the game was still being patched that they haven't yet experienced. Despite sunset in a few weeks, players are still playing and enjoying this game right up until the end - they are certainly hooked.

EVE Online is fun to play for 3-4 months and then there's nothing new left to experience, so the fun becomes progressively harder to find. Patches mostly improve the technical aspects of the game instead of adding new content. Ultimately, EVE is a beautiful game and the developers strive to make it the most technically accurate space environment simulator that you can hope to find to play. Despite this, EVE ultimately disappoints however, there are players hooked on playing this game, that cannot be denied.

I've only recently started playing Vendetta Online but so far I've been having fun. It's too early to know if it'll get me hooked, but I hope it will. :)

What got me hooked and will many others is that this is one game where you dont need the best lvls or the best equipment to be the best... i know back before the new universe, i used to fly a valk(before i realized i was wasting money and vults were cheaper to be bought back) and got my a** handed to me many a times by ppl in hogs or vults. This is one game where your skill as a pilot plays a very large factor. True right now with the licence system it is a bit tedius but once u complete the beginner traning mission you get a vult VI, and with about 1/2 hour more work u can get tachs and a heavy battery. That it self was one setup that i know i liked and used against me many times. I know even now i will probably stick with that setup. another aspect that got me hooked was the freedom you have, in combat and otherwise. In other MMORPGs most are turn based which i hate, and any games that are not turn based you dont have total control over the person ur are or the vehicle you are driving(this inlcudes offline games also). Diablo II is a good example that i can draw from(seeing as it is one of the few online rpgs i have played. all u can do is attack, u cant dodge, dart or circle. U can do all that in vendetta
Thats the hook for ppl like me.

weak points.... dont really see any, once the world gets populated them some may crop up but right now all i can make are assumptions at what could be a weak point, since a major component of this game is not in place. the MM part.

I was hooked at how stupid the bots were in the co-op sector...

... but i think the version codename for that was like "distant history" =p

For me, its the players, the community and the sheer size of it. It had the hook factor out of the box, and the community to keep me here.
