See In Progress. The beta will not be completely open, but we will be sending beta keys out to all the signed-up users (a test of the key system, among other things). FYI.

Is it safe to assume that there will be another full reset for the release?

PREPARE FOR WAR!!!! I say we all unite in a great war against the evil Strike Forces :D and of course blow the hell outta eachother along the way. Bring back avalons, circles of cargo, and may war rain down on us all!

The balance of the ships/batts and bots is messed (my opinion).
I dont think that the game is ready for the ("open") beta.
Will there be any changes regarding the gameplay or the balance?

I do agree that something should be done about the batteries. However I also feel that some of the battery settings are fine as they are right now. The heavy/heavy combo does not contain infinite boost, but I think it has a perfect balance of energy drain and speed. If you travel around in it long enough with the heavier ships, you'll be glad that it's available in this bigger universe. It also allows most nonspecial ships to just barely get away from the uber Strike Forces. If it's taken out, you can forget about surviving an encounter with Strike Forces in a nonspecial.

The heavy/fast charge, on the other hand, is what I think is causing so much controversy. It's getting to the point where I think a fast charge battery isn't even necessary anymore. I don't see what's wrong with just having light, medium, and heavy. Or maybe infinite boost could go back to the slower speeds (160m/s). But anyway, I think bigger focus needs to be placed on balancing the ships out...

I was hoping the Valk would be "fixed" by now, but apparently it's still the uber ship of the game. While the ship versions (i.e. advanced non-specials) help balance out the game a little bit, they still don't hold a candle to the Valk in many ways. There are still too many ships available which almost always guarantee death for the player, be it through bot encounters or players.

The same thing with the weapons. While new versions have been added (thankfully there are better swarm missiles to defend heavy ships), I still think some of them are overpowered. The gauss cannon comes to mind especially. The "laser" (read minimal autoaim) weapons are still slow and underpowered, while the gauss cannon (read high autoaim) is still very powerful and fast.

Essentially there are elements to the game where if you reach a certain level, you'll pretty much have exclusive access to uber weapons, while everyone below you is at your mercy. Granted, yes, obviously this is the design standard for many games when it comes to weapon availability, but there has to be some point where weapons will only be a matter of "advantages and disadvantages". In other words when you've reached the "middle" levels, all the available weapons should be balanced with even the higher level ones. That would be one way to help balance them out IMO.

Full Reset - About time!

Open Beta - n00bs may get put off by the lack of missions, unless alot more are in the pipeline (and available Soon(tm)). I have already seen a fair share of disgruntled n00bs lurky about whining...

Balance - I think everyone should start with Itani, as they clearly get the best deal...

More weapon variations need to be added, or the weapons we have need to be spread out more... there will undoubtedly be a few powerlevellers come reset and they'll want to be rewarded for their trouble or they may go out and badmouth the game for being too shallow as it is.

Balance between nation ships is perfect.

The serco guardian vulture is the best botting ship in the game, and the Skycommand Prometheus is undefeatable in the hands of a skilled pilot (although he may not be able to finish you easily.)

The itani border cent is a great ship for new(ish) players, meaning that many of the more casual gamers will go to Itani. The Valkyrie still is and should be the best all-round fighter in the game.

The NT defense warthog is veeery nice too. Able to deliver a sizeable punch at short notice and dogfight with the best of them (the MkII plasma devastator is frickin' evil.) And the marauders are next to unpirateable in anything with a decent hold other than perhaps the corvus one.

Weapons need balancing, so does PvP chasin' and stuff, so do defbots. But leave the ships alone...

Yes. If everyone starts itani, I'll be happy. Very happy.

I just want my tachs to go 20-30m/s faster. So they can compete with gauss. Please.

I'll be itani from force of habit! Score!

Could someone clarify for me the lvls at which an Itani acquires a Valk, a Serco acquires a Prom, and an NT acquires the Maud?
Sep 28, 2004 AgY link
Oh and pls tell me the level where a nt hated by the itanis can get a valk. Im asking this because everyone can get a maud, why cant everyone get a valk or a prom?

PS: sorry im still upset, and i doubt that i can participate in the open beta, i fear to lose my temper.

Combat 8/Light weapons 8 I think gets you the basic Valk. The better ones require higher levels.

This is moot because IIRC a dev stated somewhere that they were making equipment more faction status dependant than level dependant.

AgY - You can't get a Valk if you are hated by the Itani. I don't think you can get a Maud if you are hated by NT either...

Ow? Just noticed it did say "full reset" in the topic title. Errr... so I hope the skill level rewards will be tweaked to be higher now, 'cause it's going to take a looooong time to level up in the new universe. You thought finding different bots for combat missions were hard before? Hehe...

"This is moot because IIRC a dev stated somewhere that they were making equipment more faction status dependant than level dependant."

Is this not already in place? Increasing standing seems to *slightly* drop the requirements, or am I imagining it?

AgY, try to keep calm, I know how annoying it is having to fight Itani n00bs in Valkies... I'm considering starting as Itani, levelling up, buying a stash of Valks, then backstabbing them ;-)
