Why I won't be playing VO

Oct 02, 2004 Alakdbor link
1) Too much manual piloting when traveling long distances.
2) Pulled out of warp too often
3) 3km warp rule.
4) Juvenile community. These guys are about 10% as mature as the EnB crowd. If you feel the urge to call someone a noob, dude buy yourself a mirror and stfu.

I will briefly comment on 1-3. I realize that one of the goals is to create the opportunity for pvp. Fine, then put something out in space worth fighting over. But leaving station and flying to the next station should be generally safe. Also, warping away from pvp in a danger zone can be made difficult by requiring a power up time and allowing it to be interrupted if shot at.

Ta ta for now, I'll check back on you guys in a few months.

If you avoid asteroid belts, you can avoid ion storms. Just select an out-of-the-way empty sector and jump there. Since there is nothign in that sector, you are 3k away from everything. So you can instantly jump again and go to your destination. Takes no more time, is much safer and gets you there without ion storms. You just go around asteroid belts to avoid them.

I got pretty fed up with it today when the 2nd time my ship got blown up trying to jump out of an ion storm. Made it to the jump point, hit the enter key, nothing enter enter enter nothing then my ships % goes down, then boom. Havent been that angry at a game in a long time.

There are a few sporadic 'roids in some empty sectors, but it takes like a minute to get away from them.

And frankly, I find ion storms... a challenge. >:)

#3 is still under discussion, but I have no clue what you mean with #1. And as for #4... there are a few vets who could perhaps do with a minor attitude adjustment, but for the most part they've been nothing but welcoming.

As to Firemouse's jumping problem... keep in mind that the server is currently suffering from massive lag problems. They should be fixed tomorrow or Monday.

Alakdbor: I find that I generally agree with you on all points, more or less.
But: In spite of it all, this remains a great game, and the Devs have been very good at making changes, improvements and additions over the years. Yes, I'm
one of those "vets" that has been around for about 2 1/2 years, sometimes
day in and day out watching the game develop and grow, and (hopefully) making
a helpful suggestion now and then. I'm sorry your experience was less than
wonderful, and hope you "check back" sooner rather than later.

I'm locking this because:

1) There probably isn't much more to say that hasn't been said

2) I'm so impressed by the responses that I want to preserve it before somebody says something rash.
