Any better guns?

Oct 05, 2004 Kingdud link
I know you guys are working on the game as we speak, but I was just wondering if there is a gun better then the Tachyon MarkII. The Flechette isn't better (like 1000 DPS less actually). So what Light Wep lvl do guns get better then the tach? Or am I just at the wrong station/faction?

The game is good, for the first day or 2. It is really easy to master. You can just lvl yourself off stuff that you kill in a few hits. I hope this game either goes for a long time (which would be a MAJOR drag), or that you add a whole ton of content to it.

examples of content:
-More guns, at least 1 new (and better) choice per level.
Not neccessaraly DPS, but maybe a reactor recharge buff, or increased movement, something like that.

-More Ships: Yea, you need way more ships. I like how they go now, but you need more of them. Right now, you go with the Hornet for combat, and the Atlas for trade, and the Rag if you like missles. More variety please.

-Some way to interact with others: You have a global channel, that is a big plus. But I have not played a fun game yet that doesn't allow item crafting of some sort. This could be the solution to your "more weapons" problem. Let players make them.

-Sheild, tougher hulls: a sheild would be really nice, to protect from the random shots that land. Maybe 1000 hit pts for the Hornet MKIII or something. Not a hoss sheild like E&B had, just something to repel minor damage. It would recharge with time, or if you had a high trade level maybe you could have a skill that let you dump reactor power to recharge it quikly. (like 1 reactor power for .5 sheild energy or something).

Those are my ideas for now. Flame away.

Erm gauss is available later on which hits more often for more damage, its more accurate. And stuff.

Its coming, its coming, by release they said they'd put a bunch more missions in to give you access to upgraded stuff.

Not better, but definitely different... this game is based on skill more than levels, so don't take that away from it...

Actually, you use the prometheus MkIII for trading, the valk/guardian vult/defense hog for combat, and the last rag isnt available for some time... there is a bunch of stuff you've yet to unlock.

The devs have said something about more tradeskills being in by release.

Been suggested... if its been in another space game before, its probably been suggested at some point. Since shields are in the backstory (which you apparently haven't read) you can assume theyll be in at some point.

Nah.

Go to the bottom of the "news" page and read the various interviews if you havent allready. The game is currently a "level treadmill" because the missions we have are placeholders to test the mission frameworks. The final game will be much more mission based, eg. you will be rewarded for what missions you have completed and for whom you completed them more than by your XP level.

incidentally i figure that XP will remain, but you will be so busy doing the various mission trees that you wont notice it as much. You will still get the Xp, but it will be happening while you are concentrating on specific tasks, not "kill 400 bots". Then when you have gained enough Xp for a level, it will coincide with the endpoint of a mission tree, and your new level will open up new "tree's" based on the results of what you have done so far.

Well more ships are planned i.e. capital ships

I don't see any point in having lots and lots of weapons, cus you will need lots and lots ships with better amour.

As for speaking to people, then the guilde system should cover that hopefully.

This is the sort of game that has to have a long term plan i.e. this is not a arcade game when you blow up a couple things and then come back to it a couple of months later.

There are better guns.

Earlier, the Gauss was only avaiable at level 11 light combat, this has been tweaked now, I think its almost too easy to get the tach.

However. I don't see anyone running around with graviton blasters now, I wonder where they went.

The ships, Noone fights in a hornet. At least noone who wants to -live- afterwards. Why cannot people accept that the true fighting class of the lower levels are the Vultures and the Warthogs? okay, to some degree the border centurion.

Traders? Nah, traders use marauders or centaurs. ;)

I certainly bot sometimes with the hornet. You just can't fly circles around the more maneuverable bots. You can however unleash brutal destruction if you have quad-gauss and good aim. That's over 5000 damage per volley. And the heavy battery allows for 3 or 4 volleys without recharge.. As long as you're not out numbered... no bot could withstand 4 well-placed volleys, much less any player ship.

So it's not impossible to fight with a hornet, you just have to have better control over your momentum than people normally do.

Edit: Just reread Spider's post - you meant low-level fighters. Yes, I agree, the hornet is pretty bad for fighting until you get the gauss, otherwise you can't compensate for weight with utter destruction.

When I say "fighting" I actually meant -fighting- , not "botting". :)

there are few who can bring a hornet to a fight and leave it afterwards. I think that Arolte can, but thats about it. Ask wolfpelt about his experiences with the fully charged hornet vs. the bus.

^^Yes what Spider said. People have theses misconceptions because there has been very little pvp for the new joins. You'd get laughed out of a duel bringing a hornet to fight in. Good luck even getting your nose to point at the target before your hull is 20%

The Atlas however is pretty good taking out all the other ships.

"you go with the Hornet for combat"

Pure entertainment...

hoax, your atlas is the most fearsome ship i know. but there can be only one Annie in a universe, not more.

his atlas is cool, my prom though.. *pet pet* left his atlas a smoking hull...

The hornet is not good 1v1, but in group battles can be deadly. Get a Vulture or Centurion to keep the more maneuverable fighters off it, and a quad-gauss hornet will dominate anything warthog agility or heavier. Two shots from my quad-gauss hornet wiped out an warthogs in my way, and in that time most of 'em couldn't even see me.

I have to admit one of my most enjoyable achievements was a one shot quad charged canon (hehe) kill of Blitz from a Hornet. It was just luck though, luck and patients. Also it was the only time I've hit anything with a charged canon or from a hornet.

You bring up a good point about group battles though, several ships (hornet, rag) do come into there own when the have quick wingman to defend them.

>his atlas is cool, my prom though.. *pet pet* left his atlas a smoking hull...

Yeah, yeah, I bet I've still got more Valk kills from an Atlas than anyone else though. Those 3.x n00b triflair people were always so surprised at how well an Atlas can rocket ram! If you know what you’re doing I'm toast of course--Icarus has literally blown at least 30 Atlases out from under me. Oh well, I can't help but try, I do as the Atlas commands...

what we really need is to start up some PvP, I will see what I can do.

Botting is just some boring thing, the true gold of this game is PvP.

and I would much rather take a stock bus then a Hornet. Then again I never was good with hvy style ships.

I have killed valkyries 1v1 in a hornet before.
2x sunflare + 2xrailgun.

To be fair though, the valk jocks kinda sucked.
