If I preorder, do I get to keep my Alpha and Beta badges?

Not true that every MMORPG has had a wipe. Lineage 2 did not wipe between open beta and release.
And that was a mistake, in my opinion.

CrippledPidgeon: yes

A money and "score" wipe is going to be necessary for a smooth transition, folks. I know some people are not happy about having to do "all that work again", but that's the plight of the playtester. I've been playing since 2.4.something and have been through many wipes. (We used to have the scores wiped every 15 minutes at first, but of course it was only 15 minutes of play "lost").

On the subject of wipes, There is one reason above all others as to WHY a wipe is neccesary before release in vendetta.

We are currently leveling up in a situation that is different from what the game will be at release. If the availibility of equipment becomes much more influenced by the missions you have completed and for what factions, it changes HOW the leveling up process works.

I also feel that the devs would be absolutely insane to leave the economy the way it is now into release. Money is FAR to easy to get, profit margins of 500% and more are just too high. (yes they are out there, no i wont tell you where)
There are reasons for having a test population be able to get money in a hurry that arent valid in a finished product. for instance, with more money its easier to test a bug if you find it. loosing 10 or 14 ships to recreate a bug isnt a big deal if you have 4 million credits. it is if you only have 4000 credits. it could also be easier to spot some math/rounding errors if the numbers being used are larger.
if the devs do bring the economy back down to something a little more reasonable for release, than those of us with millions of credits would have an unfair advantage without a wipe. Once again this is due to the test functioning differently from the final game.

Wipes are not really a big deal. With knowledge of what different parts of the game do, and how the bots fight, and which missions give the best results, leveling up isnt hard at all. Most of the active alpha testers that cared were level 4+ inside of 4 hours of play, not because we had any different options, but because we KNEW what to do.

"if the devs do bring the economy back down to something a little more reasonable for release..."
even though i spent ages leveling up my character before the leveling was toned down to be easier, now I feel the pressure of time and sincerely hope that economy won't become much harder.
RPing in an MMORPG is a big commitment, but it would be nice if the level of commitment is manageable for those who can't stretch that far. I'm still all for leveling-based-on-skill too...
