OOC:
to be honest the idea was prety cool, but it seems like the implementation was a bit iffy. I if i had any idea what ship was carying the special widget (be it the doctor or the document or whatever), i'd have tried to betray the convoy. heck i tried to get Cunjo to pay me to do that even though i didn't know a darned thing.

anyway, i'm not meaning to complain but it would have been better if there were less of a "everyone fly in a differen direction and pretend you know what's going on" effect for those of us who weren't in the inner circle.

OOC (this whole thread is)

That spread out thing was not planned. The fact is that my escort group actually when haywire and jumped ahead of me instead of following. So we were spread thin.

This kind of stuff is hard: direct 3 groups, fly around and evade attackers. It's worse when your escort party isn't with you. Overall, though, it worked nicely. I think.

Except for my friends stoning me afterwards.

So I get off by not being at all organized? What world do YOU live in Leebs!?

And as I briefly mentioned in my last post, and as Mogul touched on, had this gone off without the Mogul betrayal, Itan would've taken all the heat. Now it's turned everyone (including those who had sworn to protect/serve/etc him) against Mogul!

OOC

Such is life Smitty.

Let's make our own guild: The Guild of Free Commanders! [!COM]

Ah. The irony.

(I miss Itan already... but mostly my friends)

I'm taking this outta here and back into the [Itan] forums.

Wow, such controversy. Seriously though, it was an interesting event.

OOC : Glad to see OOC being in use now!

Btw, awesome RP mogul! Don't worry about people who can't decide between Reality and In-game!

(EDIT : I am so proud of Smitty too!)

A poet using sarcasm!? The things I've seen...

OOC: Heh, I think that teh event could be even more damn exciting if there were no FF protection...
Serco group was completely distracted. We cound end in shooting each other, thinking that all others are traitors.

I was the first onet to pursue ye, Mogul.
Unfortunately, others dealt with you good...

Yeah I saw you were on my tail.

I actually backtracked a couple of times. Made a couple of circles around Cunjo in Edras but it was Mecha who got me in the end (I think?). When I blew up, I saw a Valk pick up something. That must have been Screwball's account of picking up one of me mega positrons. I freaked when I heard that there only was scrap metal and my canons. I thought the Evidence widget hadn't survived. Ontil a few minutes later, Mecha gasped on 100.

Of all the things that went wrong for this event, amidst those that went well and were amusing, the one that got me the most is the reaction of some pseudo-RL friends of mine. They dont understand I made Mogul take the fall for something that would have inevitably tarnished ITAN (the escape of the Prisoner) and they threw a hissy fit because I decided to surprise everyone and be creative.

Because of that, I'm taking some time off VO to reflect on things. I'll think about letting my subscription run off during that period.

OOC: NO you don't man. I as one of your real world friends needs you to help contain this mess. I understand what you did and why and i'm ok with it. YOu still have friends here don't leave because of this.

I'll be comunicationg with you in the next coulpe of hours privately about my solution to the problem.

This will probably be the first and last time I agree with Smittens.

The players who are complaining about this are sissies and incapable of seperating their character's (or characters' for those who have multiple) feelings, opinions and personality seperate from their own.

I think I probably freaked MGL out when I buzzed his AIM after the event with some of my comments. As he said to me later (AIM names changed to protect from spam):

9:18:48 PM Miharu: Some people can't isolate their character's personality from their own
9:19:00 PM Mogul: It seems.
9:19:12 PM Miharu: See, if I thought like Miharu, I'd be screaming at you :P
9:19:39 PM Mogul: Yeah. of all people I expected to be über mad at me, I would have pointed at you.

But you know, I'm not mad at him. I don't hate him. Miharu might, but I don't. And I think if I, someone whose character was used as a pawn (unwillingly and unknowingly, I shoud add) can get along with him, then maybe you guys should reconsider your nastiness.

MGL's right. Mogul took the fall for the Coalition and you're all treating the player as if the Coalition was getting the blame. Grow up, people.

While hopefully this bitch-O-rama is winding down now, it seems to have done so sans clear ID of the actual points of conflict.

Since I'm already in brief writing mode, and am trying to avoid actual work, I'll see if I can at least steer this into a constructive bitch-fest.

(1) Mogul/player seems to have decided to conduct the RP as he did for RP reasons--> ITAN was going to look bad, RP wise, for little ole me getting loose, so Mogul took the fall as someone who had been driven to Akanese sentiments (/me takes a bow... nothing like child-eating to get those pacifists off their asses). HOWEVER, he appears to have neglected the RL situation that leaves the guild in; i.e. commander-less.

(2) Lever's bitching, while clearly annoyed that he was sent AWAY from the action and everyone but him and Miharu knew they were, in fact, a ruse (again, my fault...Mogul told me it was a ruse, and working with info that the serco team was, in fact, still outnumbered in Bractus, I told Cunjo to ignore the Serco space diversion)... is mainly pissed that the player behind Mogul left their shared guild, ITAN, in the lurch in RL. Apparently, Mogul's player was the only one who was in a position, RL wise, to lead ITAN atm and Lever thinks he should have thus not run the RP as he did.

So... Mogul's player probably should have emailed Lever's player and given a heads up, sure. BUT the damage isn't really relevant, as far as IRL goes, since the Mogul player has an ITAN alt and could easily resume his CO duties under that character. RL problem solved, and RP problem non-existant, since the two characters are treated as distinct.

Moreover, Lever/Greg, if you want to bitch that loudly, and having been yourself a key element of IA/ITAN... maybe it's time to start RPing a CO again. Clearly, your player has the time to complain about how Mogul's player gave ITAN the shaft... so, clearly ITAN has a dedicated older player with some time to step up and be CO.

I was the only person in that "diversion group" that knew what was going on. I even packed a stasis pod in my valk.

I think it might have been more interesting had you told Cunjo to send some people after us, though. No resistance == boring.
Apr 08, 2006 Dr. Lecter link
Again, note the above reason for even telling SCAR what was up: as far as I knew, they were badly outnumbered by the blue-bellies and needed to remain a cohesive force in order for the RP not to break down. Your boredom wasn't high on my list of problems at that moment. Nice job with the stasis pod, tho.
Apr 08, 2006 Screwball link
For the record, I was flying an Atlas X, not a Valk. I waited about 30 seconds before swooping in so as not to get involved in the melee.

At least Lecter "gets" it:
the player behind Mogul left their shared guild, ITAN, in the lurch in RL. Apparently, Mogul's player was the only one who was in a position, RL wise, to lead ITAN atm and Lever thinks he should have thus not run the RP as he did.

Odd that no one else can fathom why I might be annoyed.

I know that mgl_mouser didn't mean for this to screw up his guild. As far as the planned-out RP event, it was great. Lotsa stuff was going on, we had people confused as hell everywhere, and throughout all the chaos Mecha posted the log that dropped the RP bombshell.

I read it and thought (in my best Chandler Bing voice) "Oh. My. GOD!"

And 10 seconds later I realized that this left our guild leaderless, since Mogul the Itani character was leaving VO. Which kinda sucked, since we don't have a clear succession at all. So I let everyone know how I felt about it.

And apparently that wasn't the reaction that the player behind Mogul expected. Apparently me lighting into him has soured his appetite for this game, and that was not my intention at all. I sincerely apologize.
Apr 10, 2006 mgl_mouser link
He gets it more than you

since the Mogul player has an ITAN alt and could easily resume his CO duties under that character. RL problem solved, and RP problem non-existant, since the two characters are treated as distinct.

with the exception that I do not have an ITAN alt at this moment. And with the reaction I've gotten over this, would not intend to get an invite for any alt I might have. At this moment. If there will ever be another moment.

Consider me (aka, moi) on sabbatical.

Fricking hell. You all managed to pull off an awesome RP. Good job on the twist, MGL, it spiced things up nicely. :D

I can't understand the gits that can't seem to seperate Mogul, the character, from MGL, the player (Stranger, I'm looking at you). It's an RP for frick's sake, running around declaring an eternal vendetta on MGL's for his so-called traitorous actions is asinine. Learn to seperate IC from OOC already, yeesh.

Thanks to those that made this storyline such fun to watch from the sidelines - it's a shame, though, that a small bunch of twits decided to gatecrash the afterparty. :-\

(If we don't see you around again, MGL, farewell and good luck.)

Wow...hostile reactions to what was obviously a well planned and executed scenario.....

MGL...I wouldn't sweat what seems to be a individual or two that don't seem to understand the concept of RPG. One of the basics of RPG is being able to slip into the mentality and behavior of the character you are playing.
I learned about RPG by playing D&D many moons ago. Several of us would sit around the same table and slip into the characters we were playing. Nothing was taken personally...it was all played in reference of the characters we were portraying. Plenty of times the characters in the game would get irrate at each other (Our sessions were quite wild at times) and I don't ever remember a time where anyone at these D&D sessions would hold a grudge against another player for a in game action.

Maybe this is the first time some people have participated in a RPG game...hapefully by now they have realized that the character and the person playing the character are two seperate and distinct entities. At least I would hope they understand...otherwise they are convinced there are some really strange people running around out there...

Dr. Lecter spends his time cannibalizing Itani (and maybe Serco in future)...I doubt very highly that the person behind Lecter does this in RL. (If I'm wrong, please tell me what state he lives in so I can avoid it)

LeberMac comes off as quite a party animal...which I suppose he could be. But I know he doesn't have the infinite "stash" in RL that he does ingame (which I WILL find eventually).

Mecha....just the kind of guy I'd like to have leading the way down a dark alley.....if something moves he'd be on it snarling and rip it apart with his bare hands. In RL this person could be a librarian who likes nothing more than to read stories to children. (Just a example Mecha, no 'dis intended or implied)

Borb....Naw, I don't want to go there.....

RP allows you to behave in a totally different manner than what you would in RL....and that behavior is different from character to character. If you have a problem distinguishing between the person and the character they play...maybe RPG isn't the type of game for you...

'nuff said....back to lurking mode.....
