Remove all electronics from my room eh?
That might take awhile.

Remember! Lamps use a filament that radiates light energy when electricity passes through it thus classifying it as an electronic.

Hell, lets all just become amish! Gather round the butter churn children!

"Danger: Do videogames teach people how to kill?
Yes. When videogames were linked to the Columbine high school shooters, a frenzy of new research was launched, in which, one team of researchers discovered that first person shooter games do indeed teach gamers with the basic knowledge of how to kill. This research arrived be so conclusive that the U.S. government Army developed a free videogame to be used as a virtual boot camp and killing simulator."

This is complete bull****. It supposedly taught gamers the basic knowledge of how to kill? This is absurd. To kill is a natural survival instinct. It is engraved upon human mind, and indeed all living organisms. The so-called 'basics' of how to kill can learned from every day life. You are taught about your bodies from a young age, so who couldn't come to the independant conclusion that hitting someone in the head will do more permanent damage than hitting someone in the arm? If parents wish to keep their children from learning the 'basics' of how to kill, they need to keep them incased in a vault with no windows, and in a straight jacket, in a semi-concious state. I object to this article whole-heartedly.

I thought mavav was already revealed to be a hoax? Meh. I like the self esteem one. I play video games and I'm the cockiest guy I know.

I just sent them the longest email I have EVER written saying pretty much "bulls**t" to a lot of it on the page but I did very dignified so they'll shut their mouths.

I love the thing about MMORPGs, refuges for the weak and depressed....LOL

MMORPGs are for people who have heads too big for real life.
In a nice way

Wow, real intelligent arguments, guys.

MAVAV: Violent computer games enforce violent behavior.
Computer gamer: "Bull shit."

Now how ironic is that? Anyone up to posting a Celebrim-like post against their arguments? You realize you play right into their hands when you say "oh that's just bs, shut your mouth."

...Just a thought...
Mar 02, 2004 Jm262 link
SirCamps, ahh, there's the quick one. You want an example, or a post equivalent to Celebrim's, well I'll try. Here it goes...

First of all, it is ironic what Pyroman said, but as ironic and uninformative his post was, you basically don't know what he emailed them, he could've just emailed the answer to this stupid arguement, who knows. Anyway, I believe that if this organization is real, they are really, full of sh*t. First of all I can prove it.

For one, if you look at their Half *ssed made report card, it says that a "troubled" videogame player has poor grades. Now I play videogames oh...on average maybe 20 hours a week, on average, it may be much higher. Now my report card is not poor, it's not straight A's but it's not failing, I have mostly B's and maybe an A coming up. Now if a person is having that much trouble in school because of videogames, then either the parents need to wake the f**k up or they are just destined to be the filth of America. No offense to anyone that has bad grades, well yeah.

Quote: "Videogame addiction has become so serious now that the mass-media now compares videogame addiction to alcohol and drug abuse."

Ok I have a problem with this statement particularly because it's the most unbiased fact in the whole arguement of videogames. It's true the news spews out this garbage, but come on, why the heck would you compare it to drugs or alcohol. When was the last time you got drunk and crashed into someone after playing a couple rounds of vendetta. Plus I don't see people getting lung cancer or brain tumors from videogames...unless they're eating em. Stupid opinionated statement

Quote: "Danger: Do videogames make people violent?
Yes. What was once a debatable question, is now fact. New research has concluded that videogame violence and behavior related violence are in fact closely related."

Heh, where the hell do they get this crap. They state "in now fact", since when do they make people violent. If your getting enraged by a videogame you most likely have a problem that's no where near related to 3d pixels on a TV screen. You can get frustrated if you can't beat a particular level, but are the vast majority of people going to pick up an Ak-47 and start shooting dogs after playing a couple hours of Tomb Raider.

Last Quote: "Fact: Health studies have found that even those casual gamers suffer from low self-esteem and self-pride compared to their athletic and more socially accepted peers in their same age group. Young gamers were found to be more likely to become lifetime gaming addicts and becoming social outcasts."

Ok this is the STUPIDEST most moronic statement yet, who the **** declared this a fact. Health Studies, what health studies, what the ones that you conducted in your basement on lab rats, argh idiots. I wouldn't be as mad if they had said something such as "hardcore, non-stop gamers" or the like, but they throw casual right in there. As if, playing some game for an hour or two a day will make you a social outcast or you will suffer from low self esteem. If this was a fact more than half my school would all be loners. This is so stupid because they state it as a fact, this is BS. I'm no casual gamer, I play probably more than most people in my town, yet I don't have low self esteem, I have just as much as the jocks in my school, it's not like I don't talk to many people and all my friends don't just play games. I'm sure there are many people like this. So to state this as a fact is just a load of crap they are trying to pull you throw you on their political bandwagon of Pmsing nazi's.

Ok i'm done, whew.

That good enough for ya SirCamps or are you going to point out all the spelling and/or grammar mistakes and tell me how I failed miserably because of some hidden thing that only people as intellectual as your great self can know. :P

The only depressed people I know don't play videogames.

Hmm? That's interesting. If I didn't have video games, I think I would be a depressed person. However, video gaming gives me somewhere to go where I'm not the odd man out. I won't go into depth, but in the real world, life sucks. It's nice to have somewhere where people can act like you're just another guy

>> The report card thing

I'm number two in my fscking school! I would be number one if I really, really wanted it, but I don't. This is a class of 800 people, btw.

>> The warez thing

I don't use warez. I use OSS. There is a difference!

Yes, but sadly, the person that made that identification was my ass.

This one's my final point. They say that computer enthusasts are "emotionally unhealthy and mentally unstable". If you don't believe me, read the quote. They say that social outcasts are emotionally unstable. I'm sorry if I don't look like my school or believe in the same religion, but I'm not emotionally unstable. Sheesh.

Right. The real world is for the emotionally unhealthy and mentally unstable people, and I come here so I won't be bothered or harassed by the realities of real life. Sure there is a greater exposure to social misfits (which is sometimes a very cool thing), but if they are annoying, you can make them go away by /ignoring them or just logging off. I'm shoulder-deep in real life all day, I deserve a mental vacation.

Uncle dave:

Of course not! you're also very unlikely to get murdered.

Infact, dispite people such as MAVAV saying that videogames lead to violence, the homicide rate in the US has dropped over 30% since 1991, dispite videogames becoming increasingly violent! The homicide rate now is the same as it was in 71 when everyone was stoned!

As for depression.. The suicide rate has dropped even more, dispite more and more people picking up controllers!!

hmm.. anyone see the connection? :)

Unhealthy?! I'm willing to bet that gamers have reflexes like bats, and some vendetta wars make a school football game look like slugs bashing into each other.

As for dropout rate: I agree with roguelazer. WHAT THE WORLD does school have to do with my gaming? (/me plays vendetta while doing hw.... j/k)
I'm currently in IB, which is more depressing than minesweeper, and graduating sixth out of my class. The top 20 students are videogamers anyway.

(hypothetical) scenario: I know of only one person who doesn't play video games. His name is Arash, and all he does is sit in the corner and cry his eyes out at the cruel world. He has all the signs of increased anxiety and irritability, is argumentative, has impaired judgment, paranoia, sadness and depression, loss of interest in appearance (hence the wild hair sprawling over every inch his person), and sleeplessness. Gaming is against his religion. Unable to vent his aggression, he spends hours in Dimsdalian self-mutilation.
When we bought him a joystick, he ran away from us screaming.
:D lol
