DUEL not working?

Nov 17, 2004 AtomicNewt link
I was trying to start a duel yesterday, and all I continued getting was "That player is not in this sector" when trying to initiate... My partner got the same message when trying to start it, and we WERE in the same sector, about 500 meters apart.

The only thing I can think that woiuld interfere would be that we were grouped at the time. But if that is what was stopping it, the message should say something like "You cannot duel with your own group"

You should be able to be grouped to duel.
Has anyone else had problems with dueling?

Any chance that you were not typing in your partner's name exactly as it appears (including funny characters) or that they had a two part name separated by a space that you didn't surround with quotes?

For example:

Killer Guy must be invited as "Killer Guy" due to the space in his name. When in doubt, use quotataion marks. They can't hurt.

_Killer_ must be invited as _Killer_, not Killer.

Try typing the first few letters of your partner's name and then hitting TAB for TAB-complete help.

I had a similar problem, trying to accept Nerd's duel invitation, although we weren't grouped.
The first time I tried it I just typed in nerd. seeing how it's not a very complicated name. It said that the person wasn't in the same sector as I was, so I assumed I managed to mistype and used tab-completion the next time, which worked just fine.

We had typed the names properly... but did not try tab completion...

His name has a space in it, and I had it surrounded by quotes... My name is simple, and he was typing it in correctly.

AtomicNewt, did you get all the capitalization correct?

what sector were you in, do you know if you had any lag or computer belching?

I had this happen once, about 5 days b4 P2P but thought I had mistyped because it never happened again, it would be good to test it though.

Actually, as of a version or two ago, it started stripping quotes out of chat. Not sure if that's causing this problem.

It was the capitalization....

Tried it again after I read that post, and it worked fine... Which brings up a point... Since two characters cannot have the same name regardless of case, then I think names in commands, like "duel", "givemoney", etc.. should not be case sensitive.
