Mineral Scanner Bug

Nov 28, 2004 Cyghost link
I had a Ragnarok with a Fast Charge Battery, a Mineral Scanner, two Small Mining Lasers, and two Xithricite Mining Lasers. Every time I pressed primary fire, to which I bound the Mineral Scanner and both the Small Mining Lasers, I lost some of my battery. I'm not sure if this is supposed to happen, because it has never happened to me before.

the scanner uses energy.

Fast charge Battery = 50 charge/sec
Mineral Scanner = -50 charge per scan
(S) Mining Beam does not list energy use.

Here is another bug with the mining scanner. The 'green scan' is useless and inconsistent.

To scan, supposedly you have to target an asteroid and press 'fire' , which 'green scans' it. You also lose energy when you do this. However, if you simply target an asteroid, you will get the same information, more quickly, without losing any energy, and, thanks to mouselook, without your ship having to be pointed directly at the asteroid. This is great when exploring bot-infested roid fields, and during prospecting missions. But still, the whole situation seems inconsistent and illogical.

Another bug is in the prospecting missions. They give you a scanner even if you have one already. This causes confusion and leads to inventory clutter.

If you already have a scanner, and they give you one, you think to yourself, "which scanner should I use, do I have to use their scanner?". Then you unequip your scanner, equip theirs, or if you had an open scanner slot, now you have two scanners, but one is named 'mineral scanner' and the other is named 'scanner'... which one is yours? Do you have to unequip one or the other? So you unequip yours, do the mission, then land at a different station, they take their scanner back.. so you now have no scanner at all. So you buy another scanner. Then you do trade, botting, whatever. Then you do another prospecting mission, and the cycle repeats. You end up with scanners scattered around the station holds of the galaxy's systems. Clutter.

A solution might be to add code that detects if you have a scanner already equipped, and say 'Oh you have a scanner already. Good!'.

Thanks
