repair gun still broken?

Jan 07, 2005 Spellcast link
Tried out the repair gun, it seems to still be broken, it drains energy but doesnt shoot or heal.

Is this a repair gun you bought anew today or one you had left over from when it was broken?

I tried an old one and a new one tonight. Nothing.

I was using one earlier. It started with -1 ammo, when I bought 31 ammo it worked all right. Note that the Replenish all button didn't work.

heh, mine didnt even show ammo, not with the gun, not to buy for the gun. It was a new one.

Like, the mentor badge new one? Mine was the normal repair module, but I just bought it today, so it's not an old patch version or anything. Was this thread referring to the mentor badge one? I consider the repair module starting w/ -1 ammo a bug anyway.

no, was referring to the regular one.

hmm, i'll try again tonight when i get home. (posting from work. sooo bored here :P )

Just checked again, it starts with -1/30, Replenish All does not load it, and when launched from station it doesn't show anything for ammo (unless you bought ammo).

Is it even supposed to have ammo? Reading the description, it doesn't say anything about ammo, and sounds more like the charged cannon.

Also (this is more of a suggestion), it's awfully massive. 2400 kg makes it rather difficult to use in a heated combat situation, and if somebody's going to disengage to go repair, they may as well go back to a station.

It is supposed to have ammo, because it uses nanites. Probably some dev made a typo and gave it an ammo figure that was out of its range, so it went to -1.

Hey, how many good mentor ratings do you need for that special repair gun?

Uh, strange. Do the railguns work? The repair gun is a kind of a hybrid charge cannon (it charges up) and railgun (yes, it uses ammo) which does negative damage.. We changed some internal data file structures around and weird outliers (i.e. railguns, charge cannons, and repair guns) were handled separately but I was pretty sure we fixed them all. I can't see anything wrong with the repair gun definition but I'm sure it's easy to fix.

In testing, my repair gun worked fine but I guess I didn't try buying a new one.

I dont like the word 'repair gun'. It sounds somehow like a weapon you can buy at a gun store to shoot dead people to bring them back to live... :)

I would recommend to change the repair gun into something like an anti-mining-beam or something similar, i.e. having a nanite beam you would need to fire at the damaged ship and keep the beam locked on it for some seconds. Let it repair 20-50 hitpoints per second. The nanite beam gun would heat up and would do less repair. Let there be a simple nanite beam which does small amount of repair (10-20/s) for the S)mall port, and some kind of L)arge nanite phased beams with better repair status... there could be different repair beams, i.e. 100/s but heats up very quickly and weights more, or 50/s, less mass, less heat but needs more time to repair.

Name = "(L) Repair Module"
Desc = "Fires a cloud of nanites that repair the hull of any ship"

The problem should be fixed in the next update. Or maybe sooner!

I tried one today and it works fine
