seconded, he -was- warned with a reputation hit when firing at the serco player

Have to chime in here. Its not the first warning in public forums about mindlessly attacking and killing people either.

(addon to this though: if you attack somone inside No-Fire Zones, you don't get a warning about their standing. You are already -1000 KOS by then.... )

While on the topic of missing warnings... I had an annoying cargo capturing experience a few days ago; transport was launched in Bractus C-5, it got 1800m out, I fired a shot to make sure I wasn't in the No Fire Zone and got no warning. Killed the transport, went to warp with the cargo, was suddenly killed by a station guard. NO no fire zone warning, NO "temporary KOS" warning. All I got was a "Temporary Kill On Sight removed."

that isn't the point.. this is the point (taken from the thread)

"[Edit]Never mind, I did get a warning. But in the heat of battle, it's very hard to notice. I'd like to talk to a guide or a dev about my standing somewhere else then on the boards.(somewhere more private)"

if the guides are going to reset reputations due to pilot error then i see no reason why i should take reputation hits from shooting people in their home nation's systems. afterall, they're resetting reputations, right?

As I understand it, this is the third time something like this has happened.

And as I've said before, since you're handing out points left and right, I'd like some of my stats reset too. Specifically, I'd like my [syn]n00b character to get back to 0.0.0.0.0 levels again.

I think, you are on the right way. But i still haven't got an answer to my question.

[My 2 cents...]

No faction repairs should be made for pilot error. Failure to notice a warning is pilot error.

ALL faction repairs "should" go through a Dev that reviews the logs and determine's that a faction hit was bug related.

But do not forget...

macguy:
"I agree you should lose faction"
"I'm not so much angry that I lost standing, it's just HOW MUCH I lost! I mean come on, from around 960 down to 64, that's quite a bit."

I do not blame macguy for this. He just said it might be too much. And 900 is really much.

Perhaps another thread like:

"Please overthink the power of the guides"
or
"Please do not make the community think that you just have to be a buddy of a guide to gain unfair advantages"

Because that is your real intention... or am I wrong?

Does this mean I'll get my UIT faction boosted up as well? I really didn't know that I was in UIT monitored space (*cough*) when I mercilessly unloaded all my jackhammers onto a standing miner in order to obliterate the world of another macro.

*cough*

Thank you NoAddedSugar for pointing out what I said. And way was this thread strarted, to bash me? There was a reason I had the thread I posted locked. To prevent people from coming on and saying how much people don't deserv faction fixing. 900 faction loss it WAY too much considering the person I killed was SERCO! This is not the kind of thread to talk about this in. Maybe a thread like "faction standing problems". I understand it was my error, and I accept that, but 900 is way too large.(and the person was a serco, in itani space)

Many people have suggested that Serco be denied Admired status with Itani for this reason. I suggest that they merely be denied any protection at all by the Itani instead. (e.g. NFZ doesn't apply) Same for Itani with Serco, too.
That way I can still get my prospecting missions done and the CtC defenders aren't penalized for killing me.

I agree with solra bizna. That's actually a really good idea! That way you can mine in serco space, but they can still kill you(if you're itani). That way people don't loose standing for killing people of the other nation in their space.

Hm. I tried to test the Admired faction standing loss. I started an alt and killed a BioCom trader NPC at a BioCom station and was surprised to note that my standing had gone from +200 to -906. A few minutes later I was even more surprised to see that my standing had gone to -106.

sure... after you left, your TEMP-KOS was removed...
Jan 16, 2005 Spellcast link
you lost 294?(odd number) for killing the trader, and had a 700 point temporary penalty applied to your character for violating the station no-fire rule.

I'm all for people paying for their mistakes, as I am paying for mine right now... but, it is quite insane that _one_ bad move locks you out from a faction forever. then again, the system is being reworked, so we'll see what the devs do. but at long as standings are unfixable by the player in a few cases, and people loose 1K of points for 10 seconds of sloppyness, people will complain.

maybe a "judicial system" would be practical? if you kill anyone in a no-fire zone you'd loose a good bit of standings (maybe 300-500, and also get a permanent warning from the faction, enough warnings and you're permanently KOS). this does however require you to accept a certain amount of payments to the individual (NPC or not) that you killed and maybe you have to do certain missions to make it all good again.

but, as it is now, standings _are_ insane.

I don't have a problem with the no fire rules and monitored space rules being strict. But one should NEVER lose over 500 standing for one mistake when they're already in good standing. I think the ammount you lose should be exponentially proportionate to how high your standing is. so, for the same mistake, one with admired standing wouldn't lose as much as one with neutral standing. Here's a scenario

Situation: various pilots with different UIT standings destroy a UIT pilot in UIT monitored space.

Pilot 1 standing: +1000 (Pillar of Society)
Pilot 2 standing: +700 (Admired)
Pilot 3 standing: +199 (neutral)
Pilot 4 standing: -201 (dislike)
Pilot 5 standing: -600 (hate)

penalty for Pilot 1: -200, leaving +800 (admired)
penalty for Pilot 2: -300, leaving +400 (admired)
Penalty for Pilot 3: -400, leaving -201 (dislike)
Penalty for Pilot 4: -500, leaving -701 (hate)
Penalty for Pilot 5: -1000, leaving -1000 (KOS)

This would kind of leave pilots a 2nd or 3rd chance after they screwed up. of course, if you're already disliked or hated, and you screw up, you deserve yor penalty. though I still think there should be less tedious ways to regain your faction standing.
