Vendetta.exe dissapears!

Mar 18, 2005 Mac Berger link
I have a very weird problem - when I run vendetta.exe - it patches itself, then it runs the game, but after quitting - vendeta.exe isn't accessible, and after reboot/logout it dissapears.
Now - I moved all the files from vendetta folder as a backup, and accidentally started exe from there - and when I quit - it's still there (original vendetta.exe is inaccessible right now - I runned it before)
It happens after running a game (my 1st attempt) and when I quit while updating (next attempts).

P.S. I'm running it on Win XP

Any clues?

Wow, that's very strange. Is your harddrive full?

Hmmm, no, 6GB of free space... I defragmented it 2 days ago and run disk check after it happened... Found nothing...

So, from a fresh install (for example), you run Vendetta.exe and it updates fully. Then you play VO and then exit. The next time you run vendetta.exe it's not there? or is it there and then it verifies files and then you cencel it?

When you copy your files to a different directory and run vendetta.exe, it sets it's current working directory to the original installed location (stored in the registry), so it won't touch the copied version.

From a fresh install it updates fully, I play, exit and can't run it again - file is inaccesible and has no icon. After reboot - it vanishes - it seems that it has been unlinked before and it had some referrences so system kept it until logoff...

Yep, I noticed that everything happens in the install location (update files changed there), but only vendetta.exe from different location works. I think I can have just vendetta.exe anywhere and run it from there.

But hmmm... Hold on for a while, vendetta is all right at the moment - I have the same problem with another app right now - It seems that it's something else. I'm investigating it right now.

Anyway,
Sorry for bothering, and BIG thanks for help!

EDIT: Got it - the app that was holding exes (and probably the one deleting it) was Kerio Firewall...

Huh, thanks for the update. I'll make note of Kerio Firewall.
