Mission Timer bug && Jump animation glitch

Mar 25, 2005 kihjin link
I haven't seem these mentioned, so I hope I'm not repeating someone else...

1) When you're doing a trading mission that is timed... sometimes the mission timer will start prematurely before you have even left the station. I can't seem to reproduce this each time, but, it has to do with the navigation menu, because whenever the timer starts 'by itself' it always seems to be when I'm replotting the course.

2) When jumping to sectors, the animation has a minor glitch. I don't know if it does this for all ships, but certainly for the Behemoth, it shows the ship going off into space, into the "sphere of light" that expands for the ship. Then the sphere of light "closes" and you can still see the ship flying off into space. Minor glitch. Nothing big.

1) Yes, I thought that I had seen this myself, but everytime I pay full attention to
what I'm doing it does not happen. I don't know if I (or we) are doing something
wrong or if there is a problem.

2) I don't think this is a bug, I believe it is intentional. There is a difference between
an in-system jump and a jump between systems. In an in-system jump your ship
accelerates to a very fast but SUB-LIGHT velocity. Inter-system jumps involve FTL
speeds. I think the animation illustrates the difference. But only the Devs know...

Intersystem jumps don't involve FTL travel at all; the wormholes go directly from one system to the next, like stepping though a doorway from one room to another. It's instantaneous.

At the typical loading times for jumping from one corner of the system to the other (barring ion storms), ships would certainly have to be using FTL for intrasystem jumps. Obviously they're not, or else they would be exploring new systems looking for wormholes back home. Not to mention there would be a noticeable red-shift as the ship jumped.

Yes Celkan, you're right. For some reason I totally forgot that we use wormholes
for inter-system jumps. But my point was that the two different animations were
used to illustrate the fact that we use two different means of travel for inter- and
intra-system jumps.

Adding an extra clip plane on a warping ship would "cut off" the ship properly.

let's not rouse the physicists of vendetta... *looks around furtively

/me blinks at 'instantaneous' and the correlation between 'loading time' and whether or not ships travel 'faster than light' and red shift...

"devs, we just want the fun parts of reality.
Nevermind how I hear sound in the vacuum of space, but I want that Doppler effect as Shape zips past me blasting away!
oh oh and while you're at it can I do the michaelson-morley experiment in vendetta? and plz make vendetta laws of physics lorentz invariant. thx so much."

actually, if the devs did do anything of the sort, I'd jokingly refer to them as the Holy Tetranity whenever I'm ingame... find the DW cult and admit they were right... :D

*whoops, horribly offtopic. as for the mission timer, I always thought it started when I accept the mission. I'll check that later.
