Medium Ships

May 02, 2005 Pausert link
Are the rest of the medium ships going to get a workover like the heavy ships, medium traders, and light ships have? That's just about everything but hog and the hornet and the maud. They are incredibly underpowered in the thrust and spin departments. I think that a 10-20N thrust increase across the board on these ships wouldn't hurt.

At the moment, the Atlas can outmanuever any of these ships, and it is a medium trader. The maud is supposed to be an agile trader. Maybe not the greatest fighter, but it really should handle a bit better than it does with a heavy load.

And the hornet is absolutely useless at the moment except for transporting light weapons to your favorite station. The hog is a great ship with a hell of a lot of potential, but at the moment it can be outmanuevered by everything. It's supposed to be a fusion of light fighter and medium fighter designs, but it handles like the old centaur did.

These ships could really use a small boost. Nothing huge. Just a little bump to keep them in the game. I mean, just look at how long it's been since you've seen any of these ships in action. I know of only one hornet pilot, maybe two people who use a hog for anything, and mauds are only used by the quirky anymore.

These three ships should be some of the most fun ships in the game. They have a huge potential for good weapon layouts, especially the hornet. At the moment, none of these ships even has as much thrust as an SVG or Vulturius. The heaviest of them have the thrust of the Vult Mk III.

Please, devs?

well, I will actually say that the maud is still good, take it out for a spin sometime, it has a lot of armor, 3 wep ports, very powerful.

I suppose this is a bit more complex than it looks. In fact, mauds and hornets are still in business today if equipped with flares, as Shape and Chagi among others demonstrate now and then. So, if they gain maneuverability and thrust, they could easy become VMGCs (V for Very) :)

Yeah, that's why I think just a small boost, so that the maud handles just a bit better with cargo and so the hornet and hog can handle just a bit better since they tend to have really have loadouts.

the problem is that you can't make cargoships handle well with cargo without making them insane without the cargo. look at the Atlas X.

Rene has suggested one solution to this by having "empty loadout" have some weight. as in, a moth starts at 45000 kgs, but the first 15000 kgs you put into it doesn't change its mass.

this would make the difference between an empty and a full ship less, and make it easier to balance.

I suppose it would be possible for the devs to write some code that made thrust dependent upon the cargo load (not weapons load). Meaning that on the fly, thrust is calculated based on the weight of the cargo in the hold - meaning that if a ship is laden with cargo, its engines power up to compensate. Not necessarily very realistic, but a somewhat elegant way of handling the problem.

i personaly don't see why cargo ships have to handle well when loaded. I mean a pickup truck doesn't handle nearly as well as a ferari, especialy when the bed is full of cargo.

I think the merauder shouls handle well (as it does now) but the Atlas doesn't realy need to be very manuverable.

I think the hog needs a severe reduction in mass and a lesser reduction in thrust (but no one seemed to agree with this the last time i posted it btu here it is anyway http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/3/10046 )

The hog is a medium ship. It should weigh a bit more than the light ships. Plus, that would create problems by making it a light ship but with a huge profile and it still wouldn't have enough thrust to compensate for a payload that includes a heavy weapon port.

A small increase of like 10% wouldn't be bad on the hogs and the hornets though.

I want my wraith fixed. Atlas should not be a better fighter than an AGW.

Anyone else to rename the "Warthog Mineral Extractor" to "Warthog CP Combat Special"?

Change one of the Prometheus variants to 2 large and 2 small ports because dosn't it have four guns in visual so why can't it fire four guns. WIERD isn't it. Yet it has never been changed?

Do the gunports on a valk and maud look like they could fire rockets? Let's not even mention the mineral maud. -.-

Just imagine that the one barrel is cooling while the other is fireing and if you buy a weapon for the prom you are actually buying two linked guns. :D

Although a much slower/heavier version of the prom with 2s and 2l ports would be cool. The current proms aren't terribly great for bombing runs.

The SCP and the heavy variant of the Prometheus should have the 2L and 2S.

To balance it out the spin torque could be increased on the two ships.
