Delivering a players ship to a new base

Jun 26, 2005 runlevel0 link
I have seen (and used) this feature in Vegastrike.
A player can pay a sum to get his/her ships delivered to the current base.

This would be nice to avoid having tons of ships all around and having to go for them each time you eitehr need the money or have all too much unused ships all around the universe.

That would be cool. And maybe give that option its own universe map, to designate where you want it delivered. But obviously people shouldn't get their delivered ship instantly. It could maybe take some time (depending how far away the destination is) and it would cost you more than you'd regularly pay for having to pick it up yourself. There could also be some type of message popping up and informing you that the ship has finally be delivery, saying something along the lines, "Your new Prometheus has been delivery to Dau G-11!"

And if the cargo ship gets intercepted, a Prom MKIII pops out of the wreckage with no pilot! You can tow it to a base for credits or to keep!

Heh, that would be hilarious.

I'm surprised no one else has thought of this one before... ;)

:P look around a bit before making a suggestion using the Search feature. This particular topic has been suggested way too many times to keep count of.

Furthermore, why should VO be like any other game? This is Vendetta Online, not Vegastrike or EnB or EVE. Those are different games, and none of them is equivalent to the other in anyway. Just because Feature X was in Game Y doesn't mean it should be implemented in Game Z. While the feature would be nice, think about it this way: Why would one faction want ships from an opposing/rival faction to be delivered to their doorstep? It undermines the concept of separate factions having their own agendas. Why would an Axia station want to see you importing TPG ships? It says, "Oh, I'm just using your station as a cargo hold. I would rather use your competitor's ships over yours anyday." Axia has no real reason to say, "Sure, bring our competitor's ships here! We'll watch them for you!" because you are taking business away from their market and rubbing it in their noses. If anything, they would tell you to take your ships elsewhere.

Hey Celkan, in case you didn't notice, there were 3D space shooters before VO... using your logic, we don't need another...

A good idea is a good idea no matter what game may have done it first. This may be VO, but it can learn from Eve, and E&B, and VegaStrike, and Freelancer, and any other game ever made. Each game has strengths and aspects that appeal to different people. If the Guild spends thier time trying to make VO feature rich, it will draw a wider range of people and provide more content to enjoy for everyone. Why should they avoid doing these things just because other games did it first?

And for the other part... they would be willing to imoprt ships because they can charge more for them. Just like in real life when I buy my German car from an American dealership.

/me agrees w/ Celkan. Also, it would remove all strategy in selecting your home station. Everyone would just choose the closest station to whereever they wanted to fight, and have hundreds of their favorite ship delivered there. In order to prevent that, you'd have to make having your ships delivered cost a large amount of money (a VERY large amount, money is incredibly easy to come by in VO), which would make it so noone would bother using this feature, they'd just do what they do now, moving their own ships around.

> there were 3D space shooters before VO... using your logic, we don't need another...

Uh... How does Celkan's logic come to that conclusion? All Celkan's logic says, is that we don't need another 3D space shooter that's a carbon copy of the other 3D space shooters. And that's entirely his point, VO is different from the other games.

Because the features that comprise a 3D space shooter have all been done before, in other games.

And I am not in favor of this idea btw, failed to mention that in my previous post.

But just because VO could take a few nods from other games doesn't make it a carbon copy of that game. VO is more than any one feature, and has lots of room to grow still. i.e. don't cut your nose off and limit ideas just because featue X is in game Y.
