Pre-Configured Ships

Jul 12, 2005 everman7 link
Sorry if this has been mentioned, I didn't find it anywhere.

What about pre-configured ships...
Say the Warthog Mk3 with an FC battery, N3 and a MegaPosi.
(that's NOT my favorite loadout, I swear)
Or a Mining Moth: Moth with Dual HelioBeams and an FC Battery.
Or an IDF Valk, FC Bat, Triple Axia Posi's...

These could be selected from a "special" menu that stations have "Deals" on.
Special Pricing for buying the combo, quick setup and launch capabilities, and a nice way for n00bs to know what works good with a particular ship...
Also we could have names for them like the [IA] Valk, or the [BLAK] SCP or the [TGFT] Centaur...you get the idea...

Comments, SPAM, Flames, etc, etc...

The GovBus comes w/ battery & weapon. I see no reason it shouldn't be expanded to other combos. Also, players should be able to save their favorite combos to use again (even if the combo doesn't have a special "deal" going on).

Oh, but just a quick note on your examples: the IDF Valk & AAP are specific to seperate factions, so unless the factions had some sort of trade agreement (which would be cool - especially with missions players could do to promote or destroy inter-faction trade agreements...) which doesn't exist in the game as it is now, nowhere sells both Valks & AAPs, so there couldn't be anywhere that had that combo on sale with a special deal.

Both those ideas are very good. How about a Used ship section? slightly better ships than you can buy with your current levels, but the quality of the ship is slightly less.

for example

Behemoth - Used

Armor - 42000
Cargo Capacity - 105 cu
Ports - 2 Large
(some engine details the same or downgraded)

Also this could work the other way and you could buy customized ships for a much greater price that are for your current level

Behemoth - Used

Armor - 49000
Cargo capacity - 138cu
Ports - 2 Large, 1 Small
(some engine and power details the same or upgraded)

Perhaps if there were ships available to pull from a database randomly, this would allow for a simple method of distribution and implementation? Also, the ships would not be re - purchasable (they might come up again on another station, however). This would also give a great feeling of ownership to the ships and would also give reason to explore the universe in search for the lucrative upgraded versions of ships.

(PS - this is kinda what they did in EV NOVA, sorry ^^)

*EDIT* - Terjekv - I need to start counting my zeros -_-

hey, moths, with 10x the armor. where do I sign up?

heh, it just had to be said, but yeah, used or modified unique ships would be nice, which deviated a bit from the standard mold.

Nice idea

I think with the onset of player/guild-owned stations, player-made missions for traders and NPC AI, It'd be cool to use those resources to sell your own special or popular variants of ships from your station with a bit of markup so you can profit.

Already we can see our ships in the "Sell" screen, and their price is reflective of the loadout and cargo.

COME TO T.K.JODE'S SHIPYARD, MILES OF NEW AND USED SHIPS!! LOCATED ON THE CORNER OF I-95 AND Arta Caelestis!!

There could definately be a lucrative market in loading out and upgrading ships. For now it'd be cool to see special loadouts made by the station... maybe have it tied to the amount of goods flow into the station. eg. you bring a lot of Premium Xithricite, the station can make ships with better armour, and can start making railguns.

Perhaps down the road we can put in 'custom ship requests'... things like more armour, lighter weight, etc. and the more deviated we take the ship from it's original mold, the more resources would be required.... but that's getting into crafting, and that's an entirely different discussion, so lets not get into it :P

I don't like this idea at all. I like to choose my configuration depending on my mood. The UI is cluttered enough as it is, adding preconfiged ships into the mix is just going to make it worse, and it's not as if I couldn't just configure one of the pre-config's myself anyway.

And used ships is even worse of an idea, even if they were for lower license, why would I want to buy sub-standard ships.

Just add some tabs to the top of the buy screen.

New ships.
Used ships.
New Pre-Configured ships.

And yes I like the idea of used ships. Old EVN player here my self.

aye, some oldies are modified and slightly better in some regards, worse in others, other ships are just plain worse, but cheaper. if we're buying ships for cargo space for NPCs to use (unless they bring their own), a buck or two saved might just be a good thing.

as for the UI, well, I don't mind it half as much as some seem to do, and as the UI gets opened up to us all, we can do what we want with it.

I'd NEVER buy a used ship. The last time I bought one in EV Nova it was a frickin' lemon! The frickin' engines on my ship blew and I was stranded in space for the longest time. It sucked. Good thing I joined the Vellos aftwards though. Didn't have to worry about all that purchasing crap.

About used ships, a while ago, when I was thinking about an in-game option to name ships, I had thoughts about having individual ships having a "reputation." - "You've never heard of the Century Hawk!? It's the ship that made the Deneb Run in less than 3 parsecs!"

Then, once a ship has built up a reputation, it becomes more valuable, possibly to the point where the pilot could sell it for a great deal of money. Then it could become available for other players to purchase, and they would gain any benefit from that ships reputation.

There'd be a ton of things that could go into what reputation a ship has. I think it would be extremely awesome. No doubt some people will hate the idea, as it somewhat encourages "running" so as to keep the ship you've built up a big reputation with from being destroyed, but IMO the positive aspects of this feature would far outweigh the negative. I think I'm going to start a seperate thread on some of my thoghts for this, so don't bash on this idea here, wait for me to make its own thread, and criticize it there.

I think its a great idea, there's always the chance you could get access to weapons you just couldn't get otherwise (though you wouldn't be able to unequip them from the ship... no moving them)

I might have an opportunity to buy a used corvus vulturious, (The opportunity would be rare), but the weapon layout might be weird, gauss mk II+ axia posi.

Seems similar to a kind of Auction house like that found on WoW

Arolte - I agree with you, In EV nova i would never buy the worse quality used ships simply because there were chances for them to blow up. The used improved ship idea is a better direction.

How about the ability to buy destroyed vessels? and you buy it, and have a % chance to salvage a weapon or battery?

E.G.

Salvaged vessel - Thought to be Atlas

Salvagable equipment
1 Advanced Rails
1 Chaos Swarm launcher
1 Large Battery - 600 energy - 50 charge rate
10 weapon prototype designs - (potential for mission opening to complete the delivery)

what do you think?
