New Player Conduct Rules

I disagree with the statement that it is a pvp game though... sinc eif it is then you don't even have to bother with all the hivecontent.

Some people will blame me probably for this comparison, but I see it more like a game like guild wars with the exception of vendetta being more individually oriented in stead of grouporiented and buildoriented (meaning if you are in a sucky guild or group you can forget about being close to compettetive in the pvp arena). Which I actually prefer, but maybe that could have been expected due to my nick.

Meaning this is a competetive game and yes pvp is part of the game. And mostly part of the endgame at least for the moment. But all in all it's trying to tie the best of 2 worlds in one. Seeing you have safe zones (or relatively safe) and hostile ones (albeit that befriending these so called lawless people makes it less hostile at times).

Once more this game is in my eyes not a carebear game but it isn't a game purely dictated by the law of the strongest or pure pvp in an fps style. It tries to attract both sides by making compromises. Maybe my carebear outlook since i get blamed for that is because im european... who knows? But past experiences in the game affect my position as well. I have seen how it was like for some people to get harassed constantly day after day. And see them pick up and leave since practically nobody likes to have no fun while they ar eplaying a game especially not when they are putting money down for it. My point being, as long as the game was free this behaviour is no problem, but as soon as people need to pay to play... you can't hav ethe same behaviour. Which is the reason why you will need to put in some carebear options like newbiedistricts, safezones, etc but that is nothing more then common sense right? Anyway in all this blabbering my point was it is not a pure pvp game. It is not a carebear game. It is however trying to form a synergy. Meanign the one strengthens the other but does not exclude it. But this is a painfull process and whenever anybody then states it is only for carebears or only for pvp people... it takes away a lot of the driving force behind the game. But once again it seems that I am sidetracking and hijacking a thread :(.

Anyway to come back on topic, please guys stop overreacting... thinking that you will get banned for making a simple post or for saying on occasion some cursewords or for pirating someone that is just... overreacting. Just keep your actions moderate...

I'm going to stop putting stuff down now since i'll just keep on ranting and ranting and ... yeah you guessed it right ranting on.

Although I'll make one more addition just to break the habit :

Be Nice

Renegade: I think you are right about this not being a Carebear or a strictly PvP game. The way the rules are written now, I do understand that they are not final yet, i do feel some concern for my playing style. Anyone who knows me in game knows i'm not a pirate or a merc and I don't "harrass" anyone really :), But I've broken alot of those rules in my 9 months in game. and as of yet we do not know how these rules will be interpreted by guides. If they interpret it very strictly then i think we all have reason to be concerned.

I do think that the rules should be written down. It protects players, Guides and Guild software. I'm also happy that we can make suggestions, like always, to the rules and any other aspect of the game.

So My suggestions :)

1. Make a news posts post about the Rules of conduct. Include the link to this thread so everyone knows about it and can give thier input. Or make a locked sticky in the General forum. everyone knows that people read that more often then any other forum.

2. Players: Post the link to your respective guild sites encouraging them to read and make suggestions to this thread before its to late. The more people who comment and make sugggestions to the rules the better they will be.

Thats all for now :)

Jess,

in my opinion nothing in the behaviour of the guides or devs is going to change. What is going to change however is the liability in court. Meaning, before the written rules somebody if they so chose could if they so wanted attempt to sue Guild if Guild chose for instance to deny some person passage to their game on the basis of their behaviour in the game. Naturally they could always refer back to an oral agreement or to third person aka the reasonable man. Meaning what would a reasonable man do in the same situation. And then based on that they can prove that their actions were granted etc. But as you probably know, oral contracts are very shaky. Not having any written down rules on behaviour makes them weaker in case of some business in court. And in that regard, I prefer to see some strict rules but on which they if they ever have to go to court they are in a stronger position decreasing the chances of actually having to go to court due to clear cut rules on which a person agreed to not break and if they did break these rules a ban or anything other action taken by guild is possible and would not tie unnecessarilly any resources into a courtfight which to say the least is not healthy for a growing company.

Really though, i don't think i have broken those rules. Although maybe in letter but not in heart but I doubt it.

But I'll say it again, stop doomposting... laws and lawenforcement are a different thing. Just go to the library and check out some of the laws written and then how they are enforced... you'll see a world of difference. Well at least for us here in belgium :D.

I'll post some comments:

WHAAAT? Um, the name of the game is VENDETTA. How am I supposed to get into Mecha Touriaus' head if I can't claim to be his father and that he is a test tube baby who would be happier as an itani? He's so much easier to kill when he's really angry...

The Order of Akan will have to be eliminated, along with any other hate-mongering guild.

No crackbotting.

No BP mission exploits.

No telling anyone about crackbotting or BP mission exploits.

No griefing.

No stationkilling.

No mining dockingbay exits.

No harassing one's enemy.

No more playing alts to infiltrate guilds.

No more creating a player named "tumbIemonster" and being a dork, getting "tumbLemonster" in trouble? (I know who did this and it was not ME.)

No more attempting to "human-engineer" situations where others may hand out their password? (I remember seeing someone say "Hey! When I type my password on 100 it replaces the word with asterisks!", seeing if some poor n00b would try it.)

No more making passes at Miharu & Obsidian. (Not that I ever was GRAPHIC at all, not even close!) Anyway the SKOM took care of me. And I can't log into the game anymore anyway. And Obsidian is leaving. So poop.

Guild leaders are responsible for real-life actions of their members.

No bumping threads.

No linking to other threads.

No linking to the itanialliance store.

No expressing yourself in any way that might hurt another player's feelings.

Let's all be good little players and help Guild test their software. Please sit quietly in your ships with your hands folded in your lap until the hive dismisses you. There. Now isn't that fun?

I created "tumbiemonster" and had him in-game for about 20 seconds, because people didn't believe that it is possible to impersonate people with lowercase ls in their name. Then I kept him registered to prevent someone else doing an actual malicious impersonation. I have no recollection of being a dork any more than usual.

P.S. Don't even think about it, guys, I have "Soira Bizna" taken too.

Obsidian isn't leaving, just stepping back from her busy event schedule for a little bit.

Back on topic: things like griefing and station mining are best handled with in-game solutions (turrets, defense bots, etc. - assuming they all work as intended)rather than rules.

"DekuDekupiex Ornitier" (with the lowercase 'i' in "DekuDekupiex" replaced by an uppercase one) has now been taken, too. ^_^

true fm, but nothing stops them from being in the rules. Not all rules need to be used you know, but its presence does need to stay in just in case it might be ever needed.

if the text it the rules doens't always apply as stated, we have a court system with lawyers to intrepid the questions. why not just have "whatever the devs say goes, so there?". :-)
Jul 27, 2005 Renegade ++RIP++ link
Because in any legal context that doesn't hold any water meaning that if somebody sues you or takes any legal action these "habilis" (how it has always been) have no ground or can't be used to actually defend GUILD. They will be taken into account but will be more easilly dismissed in a court of law then a written set of rules since it is right before your eyes what you can and can not do. And in case certain behaviour does get excessive this legal recourse can be taken.

Although as always, the devs will try to take the intermediate path first(since each player lost costs them money). If there is however no intermediation possible, the devs have the teeth to actually do something in stead of being overly dependent on an interpretation of something that is considerd to be common knowledge or habitual attitude.

I hope it is understandable, since all that I am actually doing is reitterating what inc said... in actual every thread concerning this topic.

PS: Incarnate did you put a clause concerning forgoing the money received as payment for the game if their behaviour breaks these rules? Since I only noticed that people can be banned/disallowed access from the game if this behaviour gets exerted. But nothing about the money paid to guild. Meaning if you don't wire it back, you are still liable in court for fraudulent behaviour (not the exact type but can't remember the exact translation...) Or does this scene get covered in the eula?

Renegade ++RIP++: See last sentence here:

"THE FOLLOWING ARE THE BASIC RULES OF CONDUCT THAT GOVERN PLAYER INTERACTION AND ACTIVITY WITHIN VENDETTA ONLINE AND IN THE OFFICIAL FORUMS. FAILURE TO ACT RESPONSIBLY AND COMPLY WITH THESE RULES WITHIN VENDETTA ONLINE AND THE OFFICIAL VENDETTA ONLINE FORUMS MAY RESULT IN THE TERMINATION OF YOUR ACCOUNT WITHOUT ANY REFUND OF ANY KIND."

heh, that is what happens if you skip the intro and just immediately move to the points :D

ooh well nothing to see here, move on :D

RIP: The EULA covers non-refundability. I think it's section 6? The one that mentions the Rules of Conduct.

Ok, look. Speaking from Miharu's POV, yeah, sure, I was a little insulted with all the flirting coming my way, but that is how my character is. From *my* POV, I took the flirting in stride and had a fun time smacking those of you who did flirt with me all over the place.

I honestly don't mind--it keeps the game from being boring. Just keep in mind that I'm reacting as Miharu is designed to react from the information I have written up.

Was THIS the thread that Jestatis was gonna get IDF in trouble for? Pffft. THIS is why he's leaving?

Oh, and Miharu, I'll be filing my sexual harassment complaint in Itani court for that little pat. Punitive damages! ;)

Heck get her on assault too, I think she had malicious intent with it.

On the topic of the rules. Meh, I'll keep playing the way I've been playing, I play to have fun, and if any thing I'm doing is not alowed then I can always move on. Ain't like this is the only MMO out there.

Sides I really don't see any one getting banned any way. The rules are just like any other kind, more or less guide lines.
