Bring ctc back

Ctc has seen a fall. Ive heard from some of the older vets of this game that ctc used to be all there was and it was popular. Now it has seen declined interest and I wish there was something that culd be done to bring it back. Make better prizes, like access to a new ship that only lasts that week or access to a new planet that only the winners can get to that week they win. UIT could get hese too. the top three players could get the same thing that the itani or serco winners get. all Im saying is there is more that could be done to make it more enticing for other players.

CtC needs a few things done to it:

1) slow down the transports, add armor to transports. this will make combat around them feasable, and not have this silly running game we have now. http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/3/9571

2) balance CtC between the nations. CtC is easier to do for Itanis. this has been argued over and over again, and I haven't seen anything to change my mind. apart from Ukari A10 (where approximatly 4% of all transports departing from Daltas Hold have died in the last months), and the extra long run to B8 compared to the WH run in E2, *AND* the fact that B8 is the de facto place to be so you're close to the Serco transports... reworking is needed to make it feel like a level playingfield. as slanted as it is now I totally get why people won't play.

3) balance player counts between nations. this comes up pretty often, the differences aren't that great (really, they're not), *BUT* with the population being as small as it is, two or three extra players makes a huge difference on CtC unless *everyone* participates. if you have 10 Itanis and 6 Sercos on, it is a lot easier for Itanis to produce a viable force for CtC.

some statistics for where CtC transports pop, since the 12th of June. notice how many Itani transports are lost in storms, compared to how Serco transports have a tendency to not make it out of Latos O12, the difference in departures is _really_ odd, I can't explain it in any good way.

I DEMAND you make everyone like sticking their tongue in a fan!
It would be so much more fun if EVERYONE was doing it. You could use your magical mind-altering ray guns or coat the rotor with honey or something. You could even remove the safety grill from the fan to make it easier! I think that's the main reason are put off from sticking their tongue in a fan anyway. I mean, who wants to stick their tongue through an itty-bitty slot in the grill?

/me concurs with terjekv's post. Although there's not a whole lot the devs can do to balance the player counts - at least, nothing that I think is reasonable for VO. They could restrict it so Itani or Serco players couldn't log in unless the sides were even, but that would be quite the opposite of a good thing.

forcibly balancing the player count isn't feasable, balancing CtC is. sadly, it will reqruire rebuilding stations, moving wormhole access patters and so on is a lot of work.

They could much more easily balance it by making the Itani's Transport ships move at a slower speed or have them warp in farther away from a WH, like 6k or more.

They don't really have to change the whole WH setup. That's just not worth the time.

The main reason I don't do CtC anymore is the cent mk ii. I loved that ship, then they took out the infiboost. I haven't found another ship that an itani can get that can keep up with the transports later in the week and take most of the cargo. Every other ship I tried usually runns out of energy before I can catch up to the transport or I catch the transport but can't fire.

Please either give the cent mk ii infiboost back or slow down the transports. :)

I've never had trouble catching a transport. If you can't hold the cargo, team with someone. The other night there were 2 itani and 3 serco fighting over the trasnports in b-8, and I snuck in and took out 3 of them, and the cargo! They were flying ships large enough to hold the cargo.

I agree CtC needs some changes. I would like to see the UIT able to participate in a more meaningful way. They don't get any tangible rewards. I'd also like to see the awards for winning expire after a week. How many Serco and Itani have enormous stockpiles of N3s from a week when they won, and then never play CtC again? Storms are a problem, why not teach them to plot around roid fields?

I've never done any real CTC (i think i killed a transport in B-8 once confusing it with a stray bot) so i don't realy know what i'm talking about, but here is my opinion:

UIT should not get any direct benefit fron CTC except what they can negociate out of the Itani or Serco wo the help/sell cargo to.

How successful are you at defending a transport?

Just my 2c here, but why would I waste ingame time and credits on a venture that rewards me with the grand Neutron III blaster? A special version of the Prom (or Valk) available to the winning nation for a week? Much more interesting. Some weapon that is unique and useful? Sounds good. But what we have now, (1) lame weapon that is (2) stockpileable... nah, why waste the time.

Purified Xithricite... maybe give the winning nation's special ships (IBG, Valks; SVG, Proms) a higher armor rating than usual?

I agree with most of what's here. I have a few simle suggestions that are easieir to implement then some I've heard:

1. Make the reward better - A new ship vailable for that week would be nice, but nothing to good at ctc or itll be unbalanced. A good low cargo capacity fighter for example

2. Make the rewards dissappear after a week - Make the ships dissappear a week after purchase, with refunds of course, that way the winning nation can only have it for 6 days longer than they are supposed to.

3. Set the serco destination in Rhamus please - Itani space has one way through it, while serco space has two ways to get to the, and leave the, convoy destination. Easy fix is to change it from Pyronis L-6 to someplace else in Rhamus. That wa both sides have to go through two enemy planets.

Finaly, 4. This one is a little out there but make ctc a group mission and only allow one group per nation. Thus each side has the potential to get 6 players in ctc, nomore. If not enough players join, tough. The potential is there to make it even.

One more thing, allow the UIT to get a more active role than "Should I deliver this to the Itani, the serco or just jettison it in an empty sector?". My suggestion, all UIT players who made more deliveries to the winning nation than the losing nation share the reward as well. Maj=kes them choose sides and stick with them.

I agree with making the reward better but not "stockpileable", like Lecter suggests. The Neut3 is strong, but many people agree that the AAP is comparable, and that one's available forever after you gain the Axia standing, so you can get it without the hassle of the Neut3.

I haven't had any problems catching up with and attacking a convoy these days, energy-wise (actually getting away with the loot, specially when player defenders are involved, is a whole other story), so I don't see a need to either change the routes or make the convoys slower. The players simply need to learn to adapt; they had it too easy before!

God Forbid that someone should try to limit log-ins or something similar in order to "balance" the teams; specially when you consider UIT players can join in and disrupt that balance anyway.

I agree with having the convoys try to avoid ion storms. The aim should be that, were NO players to do CTC for a week, all convoys should reach their destination and the contest be a tie. That way, no lazy nation will get the prize without the effort.

Finally, I do not agree with the UIT getting more out of it than we already do since we're supposed to be neutral to the conflict as a nation, even if particular players take sides in it.

> I haven't had any problems catching up with and attacking a convoy these days

That's the whole point: it's very possible to catch and destroy the transports, what's not so easy is catching and DEFENDING them. They need to have more armor, so that they don't pop so easily, and they should be slower, so that the defenders can catch up with it when it warps (and the attackers, but it's the defenders that are disadvantaged more when the transport warps).

I don't necessarily agree with this. There's no real difference between no players doing CtC & 100% of the transports getting through, and no players doing CtC & 50% of the transports getting killed by hive bots. Ion storms are random, they should roughtly balance out. If we're going to make the transports smart enough to avoid storms, why wouldn't we make them smart enough to jump empty sectors & hide when damaged?

[edit]
Well, there is a difference between 100% and 50% of transports getting through w/ no player participation: it makes any player participation that does occur that much more important. Which I see as a good thing.

I think that any and all CtC rewards for winning in a week should have limited supplies, and that no player can have more than 5 ships or 20 weapons at any time. Of course, the supply of ships would be a lot lower than the supply of weapons.
