Space isn't scary.

So, I randomly put some ideas together thinking about Last Exile and Firefly. Space flight should be scary. Getting into a bus for the first time should fill you with so much more fear, yet with enough to make you feel like a daring pilot. VO space is so... free. When we have more players, I hope I see traders buzzing around, sometimes groups of them together like a school of fish. And just like so, the groups should be edgy seeing a pirate shark but lone ships should scatter in hopes it picks some other prey.
Anyway, it kind of makes it obvious why a pirate now shouldn't be able to kill so easily. They should though in the future.

*concurrence, except citing Battlestar Galactica instead of Firefly*

Space is scary. Vendetta Space just isn't Real.

Players have no 'fear' of this false space because... well, they have nothing to lose. Stats don't really mean anything, and neither do identities. Changing only takes a few minutes, and no lives are ever actually 'lost'. It's supposed to be Fun, not scary. Maybe if lives were really 'single use only'... then it'd be interesting. Probably more annoying than scary.

It should be challenging for all player classes: novices to "experts". It seems that once you reach a certain level in the game... everything goes stale. PVP advocates would disagree of course.

PLEASE SCARIFY IT!

My bro and I used to play VO all the time, and our first adventure to Grey Space was us going in through Jallik. We read about the "pirates" in Odia/Sedina, but didn't see anything. Eventually we got around to Initros (having never been in Serco space before) and were attacked/blown up instantly by the station gaurds. Grey space was boring and dull, but Serco space was exciting and scary (in a fun/funny way).

PLEASE make running harder and pirating easier, or whatever happened in Alpha that andreas says made pirating work. Make there be a need for escorts, and make traders and n00bs need to stay out of grey space. I see so much potential if this happens that I'm tempted to cry out "DOWN WITH MISSION EDITOR, UP WITH SCARY GRAY!"

Instead of just having one life, maybe you can have multiple, using the system of licenses. That way if you lose one(start with two) then you can make more. So you can die, but it's hard to make more lives. And may be max is three. I'd hate the idea of dying and restarting, but i'd be fine with it if there were lives. :) Al long as i can remake rthem. I think that would also e interesting and better than one life.

So far, we're mostly just whining. My suggestions:
1. Add an automated beacon from UIT/Itani/Serco station warning you about pirates, etc. when you leave the sector
2. pirate NPCs roaming around, and lying in wait at wormholes.
3. Slow down turbo speeds at a flat amount, so pirates have more time to catch tradeships in lighter attack ships.

3. Slow down tubo speeds of TRADE ships. Pirating should be easier than running

On scarifying space: make ion storms a real threat!

Also, please make the dynamic hive damn scary and agressive... how about some new, even tougher bot versions (current ones are fairly easy to kill if you know what you're doing), and bots attacking traders and players at stations if they are allowed to grow strong enough.

On more scary pirates: bring back a brief warp countdown timer and an auto-follow key. Slow down the Behemoth! Add some more high-end expensive widgets to make pirating profitable.

On having nothing to lose: this isn't spacequake... death should mean something! How about a *small* xp penalty every time you die... 1% of your total xp capped at 500 per category. Also, the xp earned from PKs should be greater imo.

I agree that the universe is not all it's said to be, grey space is where the pirates are?? What pirates! The hive only attacks you if you enter one of there mining fields, and only if you get close.

There really needs to be a much more dense npc trade population, of varying ship designs from Behemoths all the way down the trade ships to Atlases.
There should also be lots of NPC pirate attack ships in small squads all over grey space especially in wormhole sectors, but not limited to, and should be actively seeking YOU out like aerna seekers do for the strike forces (unless Corvus standing is very high). Also have them flying the corvus brand ships (Merc Maud, Vulturious).

Border Systems should have sectors with mine fields, static, unless blown up, and would respawn. There is a war going on right? As well as small border patrol squadrons all over border systems, not just when you take a BP mission. (Borders include Serco:Grey, Serco:Itani; Itani:Grey, Itani:Serco; UIT:Grey.

Pirates and the UIT should have a much more active conflict which could be the parallel to the conflict between the Serco and Itani. Makes sense to me, Pirates steal/kill for cargo, UIT genrally have lots of cargo. Conflict is inevitable! Serco and Itani are too busy with there war to really consern themselves with pirates but as soon as UIT pockets start to feel less credits I'm sure something would happen. (This is an easy way to add BP missions for UIT!)

Not going to comment again on the hive until the update happens and see how the new behaviors are.

But I believe that all these little additions would make the universe feel more full, and a bit more dangerous.

Good thinking johnhawl. What if there was a Border Patrol mission for UIT in Azek/Latos? Pirates vs. UIT? Oh wait, we'd need a pirate faction, and I'm sure nobody here wants *that*

Before levels, I used to make characters and only play them until they died once. I even wrote backstory. It was a ton of fun.

I should bring back Toadkiller Dog :/

In fact, I think I will once missions come back into existance. The devs should add in a... well, I'll post a new thread :P
