Larger !

How about this fellas ,double the size of all the ships. Make the Behemoth a behemoth to look at , and it would make the small ships like the Cents easier to hit. The game would go a little faster , as well as smoother in my opinion. Skill would play more of a part than the luckiest shot wins thing that most pvp battles evolve into. Could you Devs at least try it on the test server , I really think that larger would fix alot of things. It would give the game an epic feel , and would help the newbies out a bit. In my opinon , Larger is better in this case .

Larger models tend to take more polygons to render, unless they're cubes or pyramids or such. Curved models, like the Centurions, would either take more polygons to make them look curved, which would require more system resources, or else wouldn't look like a nice curve.

We could all fly BORG cubes! I know yoda would be happy with that.

I think the devs should just USE Seldon's ship models to add more interest in the game.
Page 11 of this thread has a list of all the ship model suggestions so far:

There's a problem with relativity here:

If EVERYTHING were scaled up, everything would slow down. A large ship moving at 200m/sec would look like it's going a lot slower than a small ship going at 200m/sec

If you scaled up the speeds as well (say 2x ships = 2x speeds = 2x manoeverability) then there would be absolutely no difference to you at all. People would stay 2x the distance away, and would therefore look just about the same size as they do now.

This would also have the negative effect of shrinking each sector, which are pretty small to begin with. So, make the sectors twice as big? Possible, but then, relatively, everything would once again become the exact same size.

Not to mention if we get into volumes and mass of the ships.. which, if doubled, would be mass^2, then you'd have to adjust all of the thruster power to compensate to keep the ships just as manoeverable.

My suggestion: Ask the devs for some new huge ships and keep what we've got already the same :)

Well all the ships in the game (including the Moth) are light one man ships. So there is no need for them to be bigger as they are not big ships.

agreed, increasing the size is NOT what is needed. What IS needed is larger ships, ships that require crews to run (at least it would be cool).

I'd like to see something this size, though I know my model is not good enough to get added, but the size is about right.

As it is now, like Borb said, evreything is either a small one man attack ship or small one man transport ship. While talking about this with others in IRC yesterday, it was suggested that the new GUI that's being developed is in fact being done to facilitate controls for larger ships like cap ships etc. so perhaps we will be seeing the tridents and the HAC's as player controled ships soon™?! Only speculation though.

Larger ships would make the game go faster , as well as help to hit targets .The ships now are just way too small. Like I said earlier , just give it a try on the test server and see how it goes. What's the harm in trying. I agree we need larger ships , and that all class's are viable , however why not make the game epic in size. When you fly a ship it should be realistic in size at least. The cents zip around the screen and do maneuvers that are difficult to see much less shoot .

Small ships are not hard to hit. You just need to know what your doing and not be using swarms.

yah, if all the ships are bigger, then nothing will have changed.

adding more diversity to ship sized by adding NEW ships is a much better approach then screwing with current ships which have all been balanced SEVERAL times.

I don't use swarms , and I know what I'm doing. Unless a Cent is commited to fighting you , you're not gonna hit it. Larger ships would give the game , in my opinion , the desired feel the Devs are looking for. There are different debates on ship and weapon speed , however I think a simple fix would be to increase the size of the ships. We have a full set of Ships , from light fighter to heavy hauler , which don't have very much difference in size. A Behemoth should live up to its namesake and be huge. How can having a larger target and bigger ships do anything but improve upon the game?

Taljin, I agree with you to a point. Yes, we need larger ships in game. What I don't agree with is taking existing models like the centurion and the vulture or the atlas, and making them bigger for the sake of making them bigger. Instead, why not make a medium size class of ships, which has been talked about to death already. And I believe is something that the devs do have planned.

Yes, the one instance of a ship that could be enlarged and have little effect would be the Behemoth, which, your are right, is WAY to small for what it was intended for. It should have been twice it's current size. BUT, the reason behind it's size is docking issues, and if we make ships bigger we have to have a way for those larger ships to dock and as of yet we do not have that way. Even the devs have issues with docking the cap ships (though I see no reason why a capital ship would "dock").

Agreed. Just add Seldon's ship designs and then we can fight about balancing THEM.

why would you want the curent ships to be bigger anyway? they are already horibly out of scale with stations.

i agree add new ships don't remake the curent ones just yet.

just lower the resolution of your monitor, everything will look twice as big!!!
