Hello! now, im not just writing this out of spite. or hatred, or anything nasty.

so give me a last chance, and let me have my say.

well, here goes...

INTRO
since this is gonna be a long post, let me have an intro. These are all ideas that i have thought over. Yes, thay are all to do with having free accounts. And I feel that yes, they are also all good ideas.

IDEA 1
Advertisement- get people to pay money (a lot, or a little, your choice) to put advertisemrnt on the game

banners- you could have the usual banner at the top and bottom, or the sides, of the in-game screen.

billboards- you could have large, neon-flashny billboards on the space stations. Not the kind of fake stuff that there is now, but real stuff, in english, or other languaages, and people would pay to have this kind of thing.

Cargo-people will also pay good money to have a cargoyou can get, in their name. For instance, you could go to a station and pick up 20 crates of coca-cola, if they paid for advertisment. Or, you could have a trade mission- "take 20 crates of PC GAMER magasine to dau- 16, as it is deprived of such a wonderful magasine!"

Ships- Another idea is, for a limited time only, (say one week at all stations) have a ship called (for instance) the MICROSOFT XP, if microsoft paid for it.

IDEA 2

Limited free accounts- have, for one day- one week, have accounts which are free, and last for anything from one year, to infinite years, as a kind of advertisement- as in people get the free accounts, and tell people about the great game, and then they sign up (paying). Or, at the end of the 1 year (or however long it is) they will then like the game so much, and not want to lose their stats, that they sign up!

IDEA 3

Restricted Acsess-Have restricted areas/ gameplay concepts. Have free accounts, which only have acess to halve the systems, halve the colours, halve the ships, no capship battles, not as many features ect. ect. *

Servers- have a whole server for non-members, which doesn't have as much in! (halve of everything).*

IDEA 1-3

The idea 1 could do 2 things- entirely fuel the game funds, or just part. If it was just part, then the other halve could come from some members, with full access.

CONCLUSION

As you can see, a lot of thought went into this. So please, could some mod or admin, quickly drop the axe, yes or no.

*obviously, the members would get everything- the whole package.

so you are perposing product placment and a seperat limited server for trial accounts?

the former is something i'd rather not see because it will chepen the ingame imersion.

the later is a bad idea because the point of the trial is to get new players to see what vendetta has to offer and decide if it is worth paying for. the beat way to do that is to have a limited time sample of the real thing. also seperating the trial accounts from the main server makes it more difficult for new players to get help.

2 more things-

Firstly, the separate server is not fore trail accounts, but, in fact, for permanent accounts, but they have not got as much to offer (halve, maybe quarter of the actual game)

secondly, one of the largest online MMORGP's there is, Anarchy Online, has advertiment everywhere, and this does not do anything to the image or gameplay- it just advertises.

Ugh.

This has been suggested many, many times and I'm glad the devs haven't implemented anything of the kind because it would just kill the immersion. The "fake stuff" you see on the side of the stations is GTS, an actual language mentioned in the backstory... every sign says something in GTS and there are people in game who can actually read it.

The game is 10$ a month and it's free to download, if you sign up for the six month plan (like me) it's more like 8$ a month. That's next to nothing.

AFAIK the devs aren't strapped for cash at the moment, so even giving this suggestion the benefit of the doubt that its honestly aimed at ways for the devs to make money and not just looking for a free ride, it's entirely unneccesary to use product placement/real world ads in game.

so i guess the axe is dropped...

no.

Regarding Idea 1: The one way I could see something like this is if players payed to have signs written in GTS displayed around stations... that way you keep within the game world. Of course since you're keeping within the game world I expect to be fair this would only require in game credits.

Regarding Idea 2-3: There's the 8 hour trial, and nothing's keeping anyone from signing up for multiple trial accounts... sure you will have your levels reset every 8 hours, but there's your free game with limited content.

regarding phaserlight:

thats not limeted, that's severely lacking. Not worth doing.

Incedentally, you could have a max stats for non- members, too.

Sorry to reply to your thread in this manner, but NO!, GODS, NO!

I'm not saying it's not a good idea from an economic perspective, but nothing I want to ever see in VO.

Any of these changes would not only severely ruin the gameplay and immersion for me, it would also lessen my opinion of the devs to a great extent. In a game as realistic (for a space game set in the far future) as VO, the only limitations should be in-game limitations, and the only ways players could affect the universe with money would be with in-game credits.

I really, really, sincerely hope that nothing like this will ever come to pass.

However, to illustrate that I'm not hostile or just axing your suggestion, I do believe many of your ideas to be sound, economically. But they would *ruin* my VO experience.

Btw, the advertisement in Anarchy Online is known as one of the worst aspects of the game, something that many gamers shy away from, and many dedicated AO players shun. (And, incidentally, it was a long time since Anarchy online was one of the biggest MMORPGs).

Nix the "actual" advertising. No real-world products or services. That'd be like paying for a movie and then seeing ADS! Or paying for a DVD and then seeing YES! More ADS before the movie actually STARTS! I hate hate hate hate hate that.

However, I like the idea (once the economy gets going) of guilds, players, and nations being able to advertise products in a limited and expensive fashion. Use GTS if you like. I'm not a big fan of waylonics, but hey, I can kinda read the stuff.

Leber they DO put ads in movies and dvds, and your right the DO suck, I hate them too. I'd have to give a big no to all the suggestions. We are bombarded enough thoughout the day with ads, playing a game to relax and seeing "buy this" all over the place would be extremely annoying.

As far as getting new players interested in the game, I think the way the devs have it now works great. I had decided to pay after about an hour of my 8hr trial, but waited till it ran out and then put the credit card info in and have been playing ever since. The game sells it's self. And well worth the $9.99 a month.

It would however be great if the ingame signs actually ment something, were constantly being updated and actually pertained to the dynamic economy but that's a ways away. Other more important things have to happen first.
