"Reverse Waypoints" button

Nov 03, 2005 Moofed link
Something I would find useful to have would be a "Reverse Waypoints" button on the map interface. When pressed it would take any course currently plotted, reverse it, and then append it to the original set of waypoints, creating a round trip. It would be of great help when navigating clear of potential ion storms during procurement/retrieval missions that span the universe.

Agreed. In general, a more user-modifiable method would be nice for waypoints. Perhaps something like Photoshop's "History Palette", where you can go back to any point and begin from there to branch off another way.

Something besides command-line interface for saving and loading navroutes would be nice as well...

Being able to drag already-plotted waypoints to new locations would be useful.

you have plenty of time to plot your route while trading.

Except this would be a nice feature, nevertheless.

fooz, I only have navroutes plotted when I'm racing, and I don't have time to click thru a ton of waypoints...

Waypoint Wishlist:

1) Round-Trip button (Reverse waypoints)
2) grab and move waypoint
3) grab route and bend into waypoint
4) save/recall routes
5) transmit navroutes to other players

1: Like Moofed said, it would make it easier to double back across a large pre-plotted route

2: if you wanted to change one waypoint due to a unforseen storm, or change of plans, this would eb helpful

3: this is one I really want... it would let you grab an already plotted route (like one given you by a mission) and add extra waypoints along the way to avoid storms, etc...

4: self-explainitory... I want to be able to plot favorite routes, then save and recall them as I need them (CtC, Deneb Run, multi-jump trading mission. Being able to recall and plot the route without going to the map would also be beneficial.

5: Wouldn't it be nice if you could transmit a navroute you plot to your teammates in a group, or the newbie you're mentoring? I'd like to be able to send/recieve navroutes with other players.

Any others?

cunjo..

type /navroute (i think thats the command, I long ago created alias/binds for it and i'm not at home to see what command they call, see below)

it lets you save and load navroutes by name.

you can then create a set of useful alias/binds that pop up a prompt so all you have to do is enter the name to save/load

to save a navroute: /alias saveroute "prompt '/navroute save ' "
to load a navroute: /alias loadroute "prompt '/navroute load ' "
then you just bind both alias to keys and you can load and save navroutes with ease.

yeah, I'd like support for stubs, so you could store a route to get through a given system. you could store a default path from the Azek WH in Latos to the Sedina WH, and later, if you're going between Dau and Odia, through Sedina, you'd automatically get to use that path when the navroute saw you run through Sedina.

alternativly, offer four modes for all "runs".

1) one way, direct. (ie, fewest sector visits possible)
2) round-trip, direct. (ie, fewest sector visits possible)
3) one way, safe. (don't cross a sector with roids in it)
4) round-trip, safe. (like 3, except it plots a return path as well)

the general case of solving how to safely getting from one sector to another is probably NP complete, so, uhm, that might be tricky. of course, there are tricks to get around just that. =)

while we're on the page of what one could need for navigation, I'd also like to see a "track target" setting, which'd follow a given target and jump as quickly as possible to follow that target whereever it's going. apart from the obvious uses in PvP it'd make certain PvE situations (hunting or supporting convoys) easier. you'd still have to stay within the range where you could detect where your target jumped -- unless the target is green and of your nation, in which case I'd like to see you being able to follow it no matter how far away you were just to give same-nation convoys some advantage.

there are ways of doing this today, and I'd be more than happy to (attempt to) write addons to do stuff like this if we get a UI that supports such things. =)

manually entering flight paths from all stations and between all WHs isn't just time consuming, for traders, it's unbelievably annoying. it also makes people stick to "well-known" routes, since they have a navroute for it. it's easier than plotting yet another route, saving it in some structure you can recall when you need it, and trying to be "efficient" about your time. travelling is enough of a chore even if we got good navroute support, you still have to do in-sector navigation.

Spell:

Thanks, though I'd still like to see a non-command-line interface for it in the future.

terjekv:
I don't like points 3 and 4, mainly because I think it should be up to the pilot to decide on the best safe route, not the computer.. that would eliminate a lot of transit tactics.

Weren't navroutes going to be transferable to other players? When's that gonna happen?
Nov 06, 2005 terjekv link
Cunjo, if we *could* plot stubs, I'd be happy to accept that. but, uhm, *something* would be nice. having to plot these runs every time you do a new one gets more annoying than anything else.

Well, that's the idea...

I remember suggesting a round trip button myself, a few months back. Would realy be a nice convenience to have.

I like ALL of cunjo's suggestions.

command-line interfaces need to GO AWAY. Make it graphical. That's what people WANT. Otherwise we'd all still be happy using DOS.

In order not to make a new thread, I'll *bump* this one. Because just recently, it hit me again that reverse-plotting current routes would be A Nice Thing To Have.

plotting some long shit, are we tosh? (:
Jun 03, 2006 toshiro link
Yes, and repeatedly so...

The navigation/plotting needs work anyway, to make it more user friendly. E.g. a nice way to handle nav routes, maybe something like the unverse inventory, only in your navcomp...
