List of reasonable improvements

I should be able to escape to the system shell from the VO command console.

Multiple targetting vectors. One for each weapon. Maybe one for each unique weapon type? Possibly this is an upgrade?

If your number of targetting vectors is limited at any time, you should be able to select which weapon is used for calculating that vector. For instance, I equipped a scanner and a heavy weapon. The scanner was used for calculating the targeting vector. As a result I had a completely useless targetting vector that looked no different than the vector for an infinintely fast projectile weapon.

A proper way to trade items between ships.

The ability to trade ANY item, doing away with this silly rule that you can't trade a ship expansion, unless you picked it up floating in space, but then if you dock at a space station, and then unload it from your cargo bay, then you can't trade it anymore.

The argument I've heard in favor of this silly rule boils down to players not wanting other players who haven't worked as hard as they have to be capable of acquiring items of an equal caliber that they are.

My counter-argument is quite simple: reward players more for actual playing skill more than you reward players who have simply played for a longer period of time. If I'm not very good, then giving me good items stave off death very effectively. My ship will still explode. I will still lose those items which I probably paid through the nose for.

If that last part confuses you, maybe you never noticed that younger characters simply can't make as much money as more mature characters. So for them, the overhead of trying to find a player who will sell them a really good weapon which they can't buy on their own, having that player add his own markup, and then simply (as i already said) having less cash, makes purchasing advanced weapons a very expensive process. And then there's still the simple likelihood that that player will simply die and lose it all.

In addition you should take a close look in the mirror if an important aspect of the game for you is depriving other players of capabilities just because those capabilities weren't around when you were "their age" (as so to speak.)

1. The ability to move and trade any item is coming.

2. Nevertheless, you won't be able to use an item if you don't have the Licenses.

3. Acting smarmy and holier-than-thou only works for me, so I don't think you should try it.

In response to: "2. Nevertheless, you won't be able to use an item if you don't have the Licenses."

Currently, if I pick up an item myself which I am not licensed for, I can use it. Is this going to change?

I hope not. I like the idea that you can play a level or two above yourself. While some might snivel that newbies will be able to get their hands on higher grade weapons, this actually doesn't help them much: Getting hold of them is only part of the battle. Staying alive is the rest.

Case in point. I got some help from a kindly soul who gifted me with a gatling turret long before I could purchase one. I had it for about ten minutes before a Tycorp Assault got lucky. No more gatling. Then I had to find my own way onward.

I like the idea of implementing weapons trading WITHOUT touching the current licensing structure. A whole underground economy can spring up from this. And if the current high-ranks don't like the idea of noobs getting high level weapons, then the problem is easily solved: gank their ass. High level weapon has now gone away.

Just my two cents on the subject.

I see no problem with everyone having access to all wepons. And if you were to pick up an item what licence level would you need to use it? Corvus sells you items way earlier that you should be able to, so that seems illogical.
My question though is there a way to trade cargo? or you have to jettison it? (I can't imagine this promoting trade later ingame when we will have more players)

Some good thoughts there, Donaldo. Welcome to VO!

It is going to change, according to the Devs a while back (two weeks ago or so). Earlier today, I heard something like this:

1. In lawful stations (pretty much all Nationspace and some inside greyspace) you will not be allowed to equip anything you're not licensed to use.

2. In not-so-lawful stations you will be able to, most likely for a fee (you pay them to look the other way).

The other one thing you're not taking into consideration (because you obviously haven't heard of it) is that eventually the XP system will be dropped and all Licenses will be acquired through missions and mission trees, so instead of it being a matter of how fast can you grind it will be a matter of how fast can you complete missions.
