Remove ctc from VO

Nobody does it anymore.
Its just an obstruction to normal gameplay.
Remove it.

Long time ago there were some talks about replacement for ctc. Probably its not ready yet so we will have to live without it.

well, nine people this week have played it to some degree. some even delivered.

ctc has become less important recently because of all the new missions (border skirmish and hive hunt just to name two), but ctc still is enjoyed by some.

should we really take out their fun?

i, myself, have stopped doing ctc because the pirates and the long run back home is more of a hassle than what i think is worth.

what perhaps is needed is some re-engineering of that mission. a few simple modifications could make it even more fun.

eg:

- being able to keep and store p-xith anywhere

- being able to deliver p-xith in one's nation's transport start point (sedina or bractus), thus beefing the next cargo run.

Imho that still wont motivate ppl. to do ctc.

If its a big problem to remove it completely then maybe some new rewards are in order.
For instance:
1. any player that kills ctc transport gets hive positron and hive fc /bot drop/
2. delivery reward at 5000 credits per cu
3. winning nation players and allies that participated in ctc /on ctc web page/ get extra monetary reward of 100k and access to lawneuts and UC batts

Yea get rid of it.
We've been asking for fixes in CTC for over a year now.
Its just too late to salvage it.

What if winning CtC determined which BP/BS side had N3s and which had N2s?
Sep 06, 2006 Leghbah link
It does. Last weeks CtC winner gets access to Neut 3s this week.

My suggestion to revive CtC is to make the Neut 3s better. Right now they really aren't worth fighting for.

Also, if you made the lawguns the new Neut 3s, that would also cut down on 'lawgun farming'.

No, Leghbah - PLAYERS of a certain side get access each week. I mean set all the NPC equipment based on the CtC result. I think this would work even better if the CtC result also diminished the losing side's NPCs' starting HP by like 10% (not enough xith supply to maintain fully effective repairs/hull plating production).

If we are to keep ctc as a part of VO that would rally nation players to compete thus making serco/itani conflict alive and kicking rewards need to be juicy.
Big cash rewards, hive posis, lawneuts and UC batts could start things moving again.

Most VO pvpers of any nation/faction are trying to get better guns, better batts & better ships to get the upper hand in combat.
If they can get what they want by doing ctc - they will do it.

So no nationwide rewards or punishment.
Only players who do ctc should get special rewards/widgets.
Its in human nature. Nobody is going to do ctc anymore just so his nation will get neuts 3 for a week. Players are not altruistic, they want widgets for themselves and are prepared to work for them.
Imho its the only way ctc could survive.
if devs are not prepared to do something like this im for removing ctc once and for all from VO content.

indeed, CtC as it is sucks

replace the hive voy with a connie loaded with treasures or bizzare new widgets and those who defeat it get to raid the remains and those who escort it successfully are rewarded with money + access to the equipment the new bizzare widgets create

So kill the connie, get expensive widgets to sell, save the connie, get paid (more than some cheapass 5k) and access to equipment until next CtC voyage (limit the amount buyable per CtC trip to avoid hording)

We dont have enough players in VO to kill guarded ctc connie Spence.......

Make CTC an hourly convoy mission? Pay in cash, xp and faction standing like a normal mission from Bractus -> Divinia or Sedina -> Pyronis would. End of the week, give the participants of the winning side access to a special weapon that isn't worse than anything else out there. And to solve the problem of stockpiling, you could: make the number of crates delivered by the participant proportional to the amount of the weapon they can buy and/or make the roleplay background of the weapon that its power source deteriorates a pproximately a week after it is manufactured. This would be good as an explanation how one side can mass produce the weapons one week and not the other; If the nation loses, there's obviously not enough to go around and would go to high piriority personnel before being created into weapons for the average pilot.

P.S. - I mentioned removing CTC a few months ago too.

I think that when we get the real economy, CtC may well become completely obsolete. It was kind of a sanctioned pirate mission, anyway. If commodities have real values tied to a real market, then rare/extremely useful stuff will be worth a lot, and there will be CtC naturally as people try to capture valuable cargo from other players. The only problem will be knowing when/where to strike. You'd have to carefully find the trade routes and be ready all the time.

Basically what I'm saying is, if you liked CtC, then become a pirate or escort a trader.

Maybe when new technology (ships, weapons, equipment) comes out, the prototype versions are transported by either players or NPCs, and if you can blow up the carrier, then you can steal the item and equip it somewhere in grey space. It could be a rare event, which would improve participation (a weekly event that never changes gets old). Instead of simply having a channel where you can track the thing, more clever, slightly subtle clues (depending on the sensitivity of the cargo) could be around, and observant players can figure out when the item will be where, and players/NPCs involved with the company/government can help protect it. Maybe if it's a nation specific item, then if it's successfully guarded that nation gets it first (until the other nation reverse-engineers it), or if it's stolen, then vice versa. Kind of like how the current CtC determines who gets N3s.

I like it how it is right now .. ctc doesn't have to be the central element of the game. Should bs/bp be kicked out when the next big thing comes around?
Sep 06, 2006 KixKizzle link
Spuck,
CTC used to be the central core of the game.
Before that there was capture the flag.
Now, there's just pirating in Latos, and dueling in B8.
We need something that brings this small community together into a few sectors of this vast universe.

More players = more fun, even if it just SEEMS like there's more players.

[edit]
Yea that last sentence I was referring to everyone gettin together to kill a levy, or do CTC, or BP. Not referring to killing CTC.

And that there's nothing to do is the fault of ctc?
I just don't like it if content is removed .. there's already little enough. And some people do participate, I sometimes too just for the hell of it or to get a little challenge.
Sep 06, 2006 softy2 link
(1) multiply delivery rewards by 100
(2) ????
(3) Profit!

I'm with Spuck. The universe should be alive with activity. Not every event will be interacted with by players.
Sep 06, 2006 Snax_28 link
I'll throw my hat in the "Keep CTC but with some changes" ring. Something a little more persistent and/or rewarding for all involved...
Sep 06, 2006 Professor Chaos link
Softy, are you saying the cargo should be stolen underpants?

mr_spuck: I don't think anyone is for removing content just to remove content. Of course we need content. I think that once we have a dynamic economy, there'll be real reasons to capture real cargo, not just an artificial game of a challenge. I also want to see border patrol and border skirmish gone, at least in their current form. This will happen when stations/sectors are capturable, and then the patrols and skirmishes will simply happen because there's a reason for it. Right now you patrol the border because it's a mission in the game and it's what you're supposed to do for roleplay. Same with CtC. If a dynamic universe is set up and populated, the "content" will just happen.

Basically, new economy=get rid of CtC (not until then). Capturable stations=get rid of BP/BS.
