I'd like to draw everyones attention to this post for a new PVP area, as it fits in with the current subject quite well

Personally, I'm against that as related to this thread because to be quite honest, making a new system and wormholes is very time consuming. I was just suggesting quick fixes, like tumble. I came to PvP and possibly work on reflexes, not mine or trade (crazy as it may seem >_> <_<)

i always thought if they created a sector in the middle of the map and had Arta, Cantus, and Pyronis and have it as grey it would fuel tensions a little more. The thing is each wormhole would have a station at it ending the possibility of pirates and there would be a different type of mission you could take being UIT Serco or Itani for the war between Serco or Itani.

UIT maybe a smuggling mission to carry a specific cargo type into a battleship during a major battle for either side as a ammo or armor repair( you immediately become a hostile and a major target for the enemy making your flight a difficult one) and for Itanis and Serco to protect their fleets base which is trying to construct another space station (both itani and serco are) after numerous battles i think that the overall wins and losses should be recorded and after a certain period of time say 6 months the nation with the most wins would finish the station finally. Something along those lines would be great.

Some good arguements. I too would like to see a central grey region with more links to the nation space areas , essentially to allow players more rapid deployment to a combat zone . Certainally pvp is one of the strengths of vo and should be encouraged .

I realise that creating such things takes time and that other aspects of the game may have priority , but as a long term objective I think it would be worthwhile.

As long as there are those who have warrior's blood running in their veins... a battle shall be found.

I've not looked at the changes since I left months ago... but I remember b8 only as a place where people who were looking for a fight would gather. There is no reason why the fighters cannot just gather at another place.

Long live those who cherish a victory well won against a worth foe.

those damn NPC Pirates suck and killed all the fun!

If there werent an army of them at every wormhole i'd still be able to raise hell but nooo there are always 10 or more of them everywhere!

Pirates are supposed to be rare there should be 10 MAX in all of grey at anytime not 10 in every freakin wormhole.

PvP is everything, PvE is boring. PvE is for those weirdo players who think MMO's and RPG's are about constantly toiling and doing really boring things just to get "ultra lame item/level 207" that was not what VO was about but it seems that is where they are trying to go. Stop it!

Spence, you forgot the "[/whinyalpharant]" tag in your post...

PvP is NOT everything. If it were, then VO would have remained the way it was during alpha.

PvE and trading/mining are there for those people who don't want to be killing other human players all the time. If you want a constant 24/7 fragfest go play UT, CS or Halo.

I think Crazy is right, to an extent. We don't want something PvE exclusive, which just results in guess what, a single player game. We also don't want to make it PvP exclusive because we don't want to force PvP on anyone. VO is supposed to be a balance. Like I keep saying, unless you want to be in Deneb all the time, it's hard to get a fight anymore. Even in Deneb, it's not a sure thing. We have the race tubes in Sedina, why not a CTF in Odia?
Sep 15, 2006 Zed1985 link
Who the hell said we wanted only PvE??? Not a single person that lasts more than a month on VO will say that. Personally I have nothing against the pierats. Since I PvP only in the BS and BP section. 'Cause it's really fun, and once we get to have variable territories it will also become useful as well as fun.

If the pie bots annoy you cause you can no longer kill player traders in moths, well that's not PvP that's PK'ing and in my opinion sucks. Pie rats are scum! Just like the serco! (The last sentence was me RP'ing).

But yes I do understand that you guys might want PvP somewhere else than BP and BS (especially the UIT dudes). Erm... no real suggestions...

I really don't see why not include a CTF, and all the players doing CTF would be considered as is the were /duel, thus not loosing any standing, even if there was a few CTF "terrains" all over the game, say 2 in grey and 1 in each nation? All pretty similar, but with different layouts.

Or maybe seeing the player numbers... only 1 would be enough?

I'd suggest somewhere in UIT Territory. So it's at equivalent distance for the serco and Itan (no fair if they get to use their proms, and we need to make a huge hike to get a Valk, or the inverse)

wdude fighting is natural part of any game. even if you had 'barbie mansion online', where your goal is to , i dont know, win a fashion show, there would be fighting.

if there is no fighting, it means there are no people playing. people are not playing because the game is not fun.

why is it not fun? because there is nothing to do and there isn't much challenge. CtC doesn't work (it always had bugs), and has no impact on the game because the 'reward' is worthless and gives nobody any edge. The border cap-ship fights in geira/deneb are nice to watch, but the player has no meaningful involvement in them. Mining has always been boring because there was no challenge in doing it, other than finding and remembering where certain rocks are. PvP was allright, but B8 was the natural 'meeting ground' where people would stumble upon it, and it's gone thanks to NPCs. The Hive is interesting, but again the players have no reason to find the queen and blow her up, other than to see 'leet splosions'. The cap-ship battles in B8 were interesting, but again, players were not 'integrated' into it, and they happened at completely random times. Trading can be nice but .... after youve made 2 million credits, what is there to spend it on?

Racing in tubes is fun, but again the last 10% of polish that makes the difference between fun and pointless, is just not there. The timer screws up, it doesn't rank by class of ship or mass or whatever, there are no simultaneous races, you can use rockets to blow people up inside the tube while you are on the outside, etc etc etc.

The only 'fun' things in the game are things players have created, like Deneb Run, or the B8 pvp battles. But again players do not have much of a way to make stuff like that happen since their power is so limited; they cannot warp ships, instantiate objects, start/stop timers, etc.

Things might improve, but I dont know. They obviously had to do some work on the UI to make the game usable. And they had to work on cap ships, gunner code, lord knows there are a lot of possible bugs in all that. And the dozens of AI iterations for the hive. And the new mission system. I will stick around just because I'm curious. But it wouldn't hurt to hire a game designer or something, even if only temporarily.

Their game design is fairly solid, the problem is that they needed to start with a significantly larger Dev team to "finish" the game and make changes/updates at the pace many players would like.

Looks like different players have different thoughts of what they actually want.

B8 is dying? You have Latos, you have Verasi.

Need another reason to pvp but pirates vs cops? You have BS/BP. And UITs are not supposed to be warlike in other ways.

Once we reach 2.0, with an ever-expanding infinite universe and guild-owned stations, we'll start seeing a lot of guild-vs-guild PVP, I hope... I can imagine guilds supplanting nations as the premier political bodies across the frontier..

once those pesky TPG researchers can develop a means of creating artificial wormholes, expect thing to get *very* interesting right quick...

Well put, thurisaz. I imagine nations ideally to function like very large guilds. Guild vs. Build PvP....GvG?
