Ship Roles

What we have in Vendetta are ships that are relatively versatile. Yes, we have categories like "bomber" and "fighter", but something more specific is needed. All of the current ships can be effective with several different weapon combos. With the supposed string of new ships coming in, would it be possible to make them more unique? For example, a type of ship that is very poor at handling energy weapons, but makes an excellent rocket platform. Or how about a ship that's great to mount gauss on, but has more difficulty with other weapons. These can be achieved with minute adjustments.

For example, when the raptor originally appeared, its ports were much further apart than most ships. People complained because it was different and made it very difficult to hit things with energy. But shouldn't this be more of what we see? Ships that don't all have their ports in the same spots? Yes, it was difficult to hit things with energy weapons in the raptor, but it was great for flares. The spread made it more effective than having closer ports. Little things like this could help to add some more diversity in the kinds of ships that are flown. Hell, what about a ship that has two ports on top of it, so that your shots come from the top corners of your screen. Small adjustments such as these could add a lot more variety into flying different types of ships. Each ship will have a distinctly different feel.

Note: I'm not suggesting the current ships be reworked. Just something to think about for the implementation of new ships.

I like this idea!
It would also add an "I know my ships" element to the game.
If not every weapon works well with every ship, than there will be the fun of figuring out which weapon/ship/other combinations work best. Than there would be the debates, "My ship could out class your ship any day!"

Aye, and something that I think I may not have articulated well enough is that there would still be some versatile ships that could go a number of ways. So not every ship has to be so specific, but a few that are would add some nice diversity.

Well now that that's clear, I guess I'd be in full agreement with you, Ghost.

EDIT: I'm also still all for giving the raptor back its spaced-out ports!

Heh, welcome to uniform TPG universe.

I agree with Ghost.
Kill versatility. Give us good specials.
Make them nation/faction specific with fixed faction system so nobody can buy and use them all.
