Yea, it could be because I've been playing a while, but I really don't have a hard time telling what direction I'm going in space. Yes, a lot has to do with experience, I know that debris can get kinda hard to see if you're moving around a lot, but at the same time, I'm so used to the ships that I fly that I usually know where I'm going.

In combat with no asteroids around, all you really need to know is what your movement is in relation to the enemy. The debris really helps a lot. The battle is not just the dodging and knowing where the enemy is, but also being able to keep track of the space debris. That's how I was able to fix my fighting style when they increased the mass of the gatling turret, I found that violent spins while strafing would stop my ship, and I was able to figure out how to prevent that.

When there are asteroids around, I tend to like to fly with FA on so that generally speaking, I can see the asteroids around before I head into the area. But again, I generally can avoid asteroids in battle because in my experience, such fights tend to be running battles with players chasing each other around.

As for shields, I've never really had to worry about their lack thereof. I love to fight uphill battles, so I rarely choose the fastest or most powerful ships. There've only been a couple times where I was "instantly dead" and usually it was because I wasn't moving and not really looking at the screen.

Yun: the only way to get better is by fighting. Not everyone can blow you up in 5 secs. And pressing buttons radomly WILL get you killed :D. Seriously I know that the game is frustrating at the begining. I remember having a really hard time beating even Artemis collectors, and wishing for shields.

But as you get better you realise that you don't really need shields. And combat actually makes sense :)

How much space debris do you see? Often enough, there is nothing or almost nothing, and I have to concentrate on it to see it at all.

There´s not much feeling of movement at all, most of the time it feels like standing still.

Zed1985, everyone can, it doesn´t take even that long. Try fighting me, and you will see.

Have a look in Options -> Graphics, you can turn it up.

Man, it's like you guys don't even read a single word I say.

Okay, I'll start responding by name.

Zed1985, yes, I've fought the advanced players. I have a habit of winning too, because I understand the zero point alot better than they do. I can fly around and always know where I'm going. I can perform manuevers you could only dream about, and my fights almost always last longer than a minute. (Even though they seem alot longer) Frankly, I know I'm a better pilot than you, because I can sense your lack of intuition. That still doesn't help me when something unexpected happens, when I find myself in a situation that my 'vast' experience doesn't cover. It's in these situations, (in both VO and life) that you need to rely on your perceptions, your instruments for gathering tools. Do you want to know how I beat all those 'really good' back spinners? Every time, if I can just ram into them they get as helplessly baffled as a fat lady who can't find the remote she's sitting on.

I have alot of alts, but I'd like to fight you sometime in Deneb. My name is Ixitixil. I'm blue.

Wow dude... chill. Good for you for being such a good pilot. You are talking to a guy that played reasonnable hours during summer and about 1-2 hours per MONTH since september (yes Uni does take that much time).

You can probably outfly me, though I wonder how do you "sense my lack of intuition". Strange really I though I had a decent intuition in those kind of things. You know maybe I should change my major, thanks to your illumination post I know that I am not meant to be a Mech Eng.
I congratulate you on being capable of beating the advanced players "/me stands up and claps" Do you also want a medal?

Niceties apart. I am not against a HUD indicator that would be showing you your speed and direction. But chances are that if you have to look at it then you are already in deep shit.

Back spinning is not the only way, and ramming doesn't always work. If it works for you then good. Really, I don't see why you are so belligerent in your post. If I had offended you then I am sorry, but instead of trolling around you could have simply pointed it out.

Oh P.S. I am blue as well, and I am "AK"

Zed, don't pull a Dr. Lecter on us. If you want to make things personal, here are my characters in game:

Ixitixil
Chesed Netzach
Despina

I'd also appreciate it if you gave me your e-mail or some way of getting a hold of you so I can make fun of you some more. I mean, for the last time people; Just because you think you're good at life doesn't mean that you can play videogames, and the converse is also true. Now, chances are that if you have to look at it then you are already in deep shit.

Bingo. That's why looking at space debris doesn't work. If I've lost my sense of direction is space, which is very easy to do considering there's a lack of a gravity that keeps us all straight, I need an instrument that will quickly tell me which direction I'm going, in the time it takes to blink an eye. The alternative is that we do the "I just won't get rammed then" game, but you get enough theoretical conditions of things you won't do, and soon enough you're playing a pen and paper RPG. A balance starts to be formed, stuff like Gauss Cannons beat Neutron Blasters, Rail Guns beat Gauss Cannons, and Neutron Blastesr beat Rail Guns, with hardly a regard to skill. I *like* the twitch action of this game, and I want to be able to stand a fair chance at beating even the 'really advanced pilots' without thinking I'm supposed to ram them, or use Rail Guns every single time. Besides that, the lack of information is biased against people who have slower computers and higher latency, since we're forced to rely on the scenery and other ships for coordination, as opposed to our HUD.

I am not pulling a lecter, you were the one that said that you wanted to fight me.
