Energy to Energy dispersal

Apr 17, 2007 CrazySpence link
If energy weapons of the same strength contact each other in space they should cancel out and disperse.

If energy weapons of different strength collide the stronger of the 2 should continue at a weaker damage and the weaker should disperse.

the main reason I have considered this is to add another level of defense to capital ship fights. If your carrier keeps getting yellow balled by a Teradon its toast but if the carriers snowballs and even your own energy can be fired into them to weaken them then maybe your bomber wing can bomb the hell out if it long enough turn the fight in your favour.

Lets face it odds are you wont be able to fire enough into them to disperse them but even reducing their yield would be helpful in winning a capital fight on your team.

This can also apply to fighter vs fighter but you aren't going to hit your enemies shots enough for it to matter.

Also if something like that HAC straight fireing uber beam weapon I suggested in another thread got implemented it could turn into one of those cool energy beam faceoffs between two HAC's where the energy beam went back and forth until the weaker side gave in and got overpowered by the awesome beam! Which would look absolutely cool.

So if you fired repair pellets into it it would strengthen? Hehe.

I dunno about this. Might be kinda neat, though.

That reminds me of DragonBall

[stamp of neat idea]

Interesting.

umm, no. Doesn't work that way, and it seems like a really pathetic idea to deffy the laws of physics for.

Now ordnance should be destructable, and that would go a long way... but you can't cancel out ion weapons. just by shooting more ions at them.

Well... since the weapons are within the laws of physics, we should make our ships behave like real (newtonian) space-ships, as well. /sarcasm

Ordnance should be definitively destructible, but this 'canceling out' effect would be fun, too. Maybe deflection, or whatnot...

Actually Cunjo, physics kinda does work that way sometimes.

I'm thinking along the lines of the phasing effect you get when you invert a sound and play it over the top of itself, along the same lines as those noise cancelling headphones you can get.

If the energy weapon had precisely (within certain tolerances) the same frequency - but reversed - as the one it was aimed at then it is possible that the two could cancel out nicely.

What that does is bring to bear an idea for something like an Aegis capship, which was designed to neutralise the GBoD on some of the other capships, or some of the other uber energy weapons out there. Can't see it on little ships though.

Imagine the tactical advantages something like that would give!

And if you wanna apply simple logic to it...if a bullet hits another bullet both traveling at the same speeds and exact oppaste directions, what happens? The forces cancel eachother out. It'd add a new deminsion to combat, because then you NEED the extra energy to defend yourself. (like someone said, imagin dragonball Z)

ilike.

I smell a use for Flechettes.

We do not need only similar, or exactly congruent, frequency, but also phase. But since we cannot 'tune' our weapons (tuning in the musical way, kind of), we can assume that the same weapons have the same frequency/phase. I should go re-read my textbooks on quantum physics.

zamzx, you are not thinking in quantum mechanics (and here, you have to, I think, since we are talking particles).

Shape! We need you.

Oh, and screw DBZ. As far as martial arts comedy manga goes, Ranma 1/2 beats almost everything else hands-down.

yes Ramna 1/2 beats DBZ hands down.

anyways I dont care either way about the idea but what about a small weapon system that targets missiles?

Some people say google is your friend, but I disagree. I think google is your worst enemy. It makes you look smarter than you are.
